Romantic Collection is a tribute to various musical disciplines of the spacey variety from the '80s and '90s: B-movie synth style soundtrack, kitschy new age and calming guitar-based ambiance. Originally conceived as an elegant exercise in sophisticated retro-styling, this compendium of therapeutic tunes can also be applied as the aural cure for various soul aliments (including existential anxiety, urban heartbrokenness, sexual arrogance and moon-induced nostalgia).

I'm in my car. I'm high on decongestants and I'm driving anywhere. I end up at this squalid little dive somewhere in Vegas. Maybe Reno. Maybe Tahoe. I don't know. But there she is. I can't tell if she's human or 5th generation gynomorphic android, and I don't care. She moves closer to me. At this range, the downy hairs that trickle from her navel remind me of the fractal ferns produced by injecting dyed water into an aqueous polymer solution, and I tell her so. She looks into my eyes, "You have the glibness, superficial charm, grandiosity, lack of guilt, shallow feelings, impulsiveness, and lack of realistic long term plans that excite me. Right now", she says. Moving even closer. I begin to kiss her but she turns her head away. "Don't good little boys that finish all their vegetables get dessert?" I ask. "I can't kiss you. We're monozygotic replicates, we share 100% of our genetic material". I open my shirt exposing the device which I had stuck in the waistband of my black jeans. "How'd you get that thing?" she gasps, oogling it's thick fiber reinforced plastic barrel and "OOZI-BIOTECH" logo embossed on the magazine which held two cartridges of gellated recombinant DNA. "I got it for christmas. Do you have any last words before I scramble your chromosomes?" I say, taking aim. "Yes", she says. "You first".

PALENCE ANNOUNCES “Telophase” EP
RELEASE DATE: 1st September

London-based recording artist and soundscape composer Savanh Phaophanit aka PALENCE is releasing his new EP Telophase on the 1st September via THE PLAYGROUND Records. Over the course of several years he has garnered a substantial online audience as well as acknowledgement and respect from many peer producers who operate in overlapping scenes. A number of his tracks have been featured on popular underground music channels such as ‘The_accidental_poet’ and ‘FOMH’ receiving over 2,5 million Youtube views.

Using a 1971 Tandberg 4000X reel to reel player (given to him by his grandfather), alongside a collection of found objects used to record the majority of the percussive sounds in the EP, PALENCE has created a unique and personalised set of textures and timbres to use as tools for producing. Running his 1981 Gibson ES-335 through his reel to reel and splicing individual notes into short stabs, he recycled the noises and drenched them with reverb to create bespoke atmospheric synth-like sounds. It would appear that through the multitude of long-winded and atypical methods adopted for the creation of this EP a running theme which connects each of the tracks is precisely the unorthodox ways in which they have been constructed. The EP’s emphasis on hand-crafted sounds and reluctance to rely on any pre-recorded or sampled material is demonstrative of Phaophanit’s desire to separate himself from a rapidly growing scene of sample-heavy production, whilst simultaneously displaying his enthusiasm for original and pioneering methods of creating music. 

Inspired by post-rock and slowcore melodies, PALENCE cites influences such as Explosions In The Sky and Low, as well as the likes of artists such as Aphex Twin, Duster, Bluetile Lounge, drip-133 to name a few.

Pushing his music under the self-contrived definition of ‘Post-Sludge’, PALENCE annexes musical elements from a plethora of genres including Ambient, Post-Rock, IDM and 90s Hip Hop. Telophase incorporates Lo-fi ambience, meticulously tweaked drum patterns and an array of customised synths which collectively aim for a sound reminiscent of Boards of Canada’s warm analogue compositions. Ultimately, the amalgam of sounds contained within this distinctive five track EP clearly indicate that for Phaophanit, longevity and innovation are held as fundamental priorities when it comes to his work.

Followers of Wave are no strangers to Outsidr, with his Liquid Ritual debut 'Cells' adding to his already impressive repertoire. 

Starting with slow, ambient soundscapes and vocal samples, 'Cells' quickly develops into a bass-heavy track that is both heavy and reflective. As always, Outsidr's ability to build flawless transitions and clean percussions is ever-present. Layered with elements that are both spacey and organic, the full-sounding synths of 'Cells' only further the listening experience. 

Coming in strong with emotional ties, 'Cells' is like your high-school crush.
