kukorica (Barnabás Tóth) is a Budapest-based musician and sound artist, and an alum of the Electronic Music and Media Arts program at the University of Pécs. After contributing his work to compilations such as ‘EZMVA’ by 111records (‘bukdácsol és megérkezik’) and ‘Healer’ by EXILES (‘how i found my peace today’), he returns to our label with his debut album ‘ceramic tears’, a 7-track collection that came to be in the autumn-winter period of 2023.

The main focus of kukorica’s work is recreating nature-like behaviors using artificial sounds, and this effortless aim to merge the organic with the synthetic is evident from the first seconds of ‘gritty frogs’ all the way to the last notes of ‘middle tear’.

‘ceramic tears’ is a deeply personal, matured record, one that is also an experiment in observing: after setting up generative systems and stochastic processes, kukorica tries to only step in as gentle arranger, to guide sounds rather than force them in a certain direction. By blending volatile ambient textures with synthesized frog croaks, imperfect choirs with metallic cricket chirps, feedbacked percussive elements with deep roars or quirky vintage synths with the airy rustle of leaves, the artist creates (or allows?) digital imprints of nature-like states that are unique in their imperfections – and that reward deep listening.
