A Little Lost

Pat Lok & Megan Vice team up for the first time, bringing the ‘Spectrum’ two-tracker to Brooklyn label toucan sounds.  

“Conceived in the heart of Brooklyn, this female empowerment anthem addresses mental health at a time when women are reclaiming their narratives and refusing to suffer in silence.” 

The title track, ‘Spectrum’, sees Pat Lok & Megan Vice pair an earworm chord progression and smooth groove with Vice’s commanding rap vocals, sending a message of strength and solidarity. 

‘Waste My Time’ then follows with a grungy, punk-tinged energy, where acidic basslines meet Vice’s subtly distorted voice, rounding out a defiant double anthem already supported by Robert Owens, Jamie Jones, and Sam Divine.

I.M YONI (Independent Musicians of Yoni) is a group of creative women from different parts of the world, based in Mexico City who are united to address gender equality through art. The collective was formed as a musical group that produces original songs in multiple languages, within the genres of Funk, R&B, Dance, and Pop among others.

They return to the dance floor with their new single, ‘Brillando,’ a collaboration with French superstar, Corine. The emerging sounds, and artists record label, toucan sounds is releasing the single, as a follow up to the international success of their dance re-edit for ‘Perfect Place,’ (also appearing on the ep) which had radio support around the world, including in the UK, Spain, France, US, and Australia, with special mentions on BBC Radio 6 by Mary Anne Hobbs.

Toribio has established his name in Brooklyn and around the globe as an in-demand DJ, most notably with his BDA (Bring Dat Ass) party, which has been bumping around New York City on a near-weekly basis. 'Living The Fantasy’ sees the duo draw for grooving bass, sparkling synths, and shuffling live drums for a distinctly grooving, disco-influenced track.

Lovetempo is the brainchild of Mattie Safer, known for his work as the singer and bassist of Poolside and The Rapture. Since its inception, Safer has fused saudade sentimentality and jazz-funk excursions with modern dancefloor sensibilities. Through body, soul, and basslines, lovetempo explores the triumphs and travails of the heart. This year he released two captivating singles, “But I Do” out on Razor-N-tape, followed by “Maybe In Another Life.” Both tracks got smashed on BBC6 Music, KCRW, and Jazz FM, with high praise from Gilles Peterson on both his shows.

Eric Kupper is a pioneering producer, remixer, and musician.  Kupper has worked on over 120 Billboard #1 dance records and was a longtime collaborator of house icon Frankie Knuckles. Together, they created classics like “The Whistle Song” and remixed Hercules and Love Affair’s “Blind” (a personal favorite). An essential figure since the early days of house, it is a thrill and an honor to have him on the release.

This is the debut single of musclecars, a DJ / Producer duo consisting of two native New Yorkers, Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield. As musicians, they equally share an admiration for the art form. Their desire to blend genres and express their appreciation for music is focused around their community- the end goal is to bring people together. Through a regular stream of high quality mixes, they have begun to turn heads in underground circles. 

In 2018 they launched ‘Coloring Lessons’, a party that was aimed to add value to their city’s nightlife culture. While the party and sound is not genre specific, it is heavily focused around house, disco, jazz, and soul, embracing the musical elements of their black and brown ancestors. The monthly party's intention is to bring New York City's dance music scene back to what it was during the golden era of NY nightlife. They aim to spread the music that has been influential to them, and share it with a younger generation of their peers.

I.M YONI is a group of creative women from different parts of the world, based in Mexico City who got united to address gender equality throughout art.  Perfect Place is their debut single, and it features Yasmin - a british vocalist, DJ, and producer who has fronted the stage with some of dance music's biggest names.  The original has been redone for the dance floor, with an edit by the in-house team of producers at toucan sounds.

Taking cues from disco pioneers such as MFSB and DFA, Sweden’s Drop Out Orchestra rose to prominence in 2008 with a seemingly endless arsenal of bootlegs, re-edits, and covers. Now teaming up with Mexican DJ sensation and Super Spicy Records boss Monsieur Van Pratt for their first collaboration, they have crafted a four-track EP of undeniably funky disco-house excursions, highlighting a shared passion for golden age disco, funk, and soul, showcasing their genuine appreciation of these influences.
