Eat Static "Crazy Shit #5" 21/12/2013

This was cut for INGWE 003 but I was unhappy with the sound on the test pressings. The company in Wimbledo refused to re-cut the record & pressed 200 without my permission. I refused to pay for the but instead of destroying them, they labelled them up as something else & sold them on. A DJ in Spain, a big INGWE fan, heard one of my tracks playing in a club down there but the label was not an INGWE! I started pressing my records elsewhere after that!

I've been producing dance music since the early 90's & here's a selection of the best I've come up with in that time. Most of this stuff is late 90's to mid 00's. Late in the 00's my interest in dance music waned for awhile, but I'm back in the studio making DJ mixes & producing tunes again since about 2011. 

I started out drumming with blues, rock & folk bands around the Twickenham area in the late 80's, after growing up in Africa. Bands never really worked out for me so after a few years, & not coincidentally timed with the rise of Acid House, I sold my drumkit & bought an S330 Roland sampler. Limited though this device was, adding a synth & an MMT8 sequencer, a borrowed TR505 drum machine gave me the basics & I began to learn how MIDI works & how to arrange & produce music. I bought my first set of decks & released my first piece of dance music on vinyl in 1994 & started a label a year later. INGWErecords was distributed globally by the sadly no defunct British side of Germanys INTERgroove. We issued 8 releases through INTERgroove through the 90's, with the year 2000 marking the demise of the label. Many copies of unsold INGWE's had to be destroyed because I had nowhere to store them. But I began relaeasing stuff on the internet instead. I continued to produce plenty of music & played some live gigs, in November 2002 at Tolerance at The Telegragh Brixton & at Aboslution, at the Sounshaft, Charing Cross in January 2004. These gigs were pulled off with the PC expertise & musical assistane of Marve from Trancient Dreams. In the early 00's I also worked with a good friend Jon e, who writes epic trance riffs & plays them with his freakishly long fingers while I sweat over a hot sequencer. At any one time we could be found, wasted on mushrooms, trying to find out why the bass-station was no longer distorted, or where the headphones were. MDMA & weed were also common compatriots in the studio in those days, by the way.

In more recent times, myself & my musical lady-friend spent a week hiding out from decorating work at my flat at a cottage in rural Hampshire, & having dismantled the studio & taken it with us, we made Dark Dragon. It was midwinter & we'd driven in a hired van, fortunate to find a gap in the snow storms. The next morning we were snowed in!

This year, 2014, I'm expecting an increased interest in the harder fringe of dance music. The time of hard techno, energy trance, pumping, driving, psychdedelic techno is to come again so I'm thinking this is an excellent opportunity to work on some new material. 

So keep an eye on here, there's some new ToI recordings in the pipeline. I'm working on right one now!
