Of course, he never drowned his books
He sat and thought beside the sea
Perhaps he shed a tear
He called the men to take his crates on board
I'm not sure that he used the books again

I have them still. Here, above the fire
A book on drawing spirits from a flame
To whisper of tomorrow and next week
In this one dragons curl around the page
With spells to summon stones from the deep
A book of skin to make bones speak

I almost was a queen. How quickly one forgets

And here's the other book
The tattered one I told you of
The one in which he wrote our histories
And some of it is true
He wrote the way that victors do
That we should see his struggles from his victor's eye
That no-one else was ever truly real
Except as pale reflections of himself
Unsilvered mirrors in an endless hall

I walked that hall for years
And then I left 

There is another book, I think. I know.
One far across the sea
I read it as a child, and even now
It haunts the thrumming dark before i sleep
My father never wrote of it, of course
He did not deem its writer fit to write
But oh, that I could read its spells tonight

There will come a time
When that tide you were so worried about goes out
And beneath it are only purple shells
All the way to the foggy horizon
And pools darting with tiny fishes

There will come a time
When grass grows over the cities
When the sun rises in whispering silence
Over the forested building tops
We will climb up there to see it together
Us and the west wind
With a touch of the sea to it

And finally that time
when we mistake snow for drifting ash
and then for industrial foam
and then for bleached bees
and then for shredded paper
and the degeneration of our eyes;
But after all that
amazingly, unexpectedly
it will still be snow.

There Will Come a Time

Inspiration from literature and nature, placed in a more modern setting.  Style influenced by prog and art rock/pop, classical, singer-songwriters, ambient and electronic music. Please tell me what genre you think it is!
