A couple of years after the Dyslexia Tracks EP, and following a volley of killer releases on labels such as iDEAL, Death & Leisure and Opal Tapes, Autumns returns to Touch Sensitive with perhaps his most complete set to date.

'Everyone’s Already Come Apart' sees the return to Touch Sensitive of Group Zero, the solo project of Belfast-based musician, Cathal Cully.

The Group Zero moniker has been an outlet for Cully to explore a loose experimentalism within electronic production whilst still feeding off the same diet of his post-punk roots: repetition, repetition, repetition.

Four years on from his previous outing for the label, 'Everyone’s Already Come Apart' heralds a shift in trajectory - leaving behind the colder, industrial glaze and softening the angular edges to reveal warmer, psychedelic rhythms - hinting at heady optimism and playful escapism.

These five tracks take us on a trip that both pushes and pulls. Moments of meditative stasis are clipped by propulsive 4/4 grooves. Snatches of heavily treated vocals and keys further the unmapped journey.
We find ourselves in the headspace of those beautiful off-kilter 3am dance floor moments - flickering bright lights arrest us from being lost in fog machine haze. Next, we're soundtracking the patina of those early-morning trails - pushing through nature’s wow and flutter - equally as psychedelic. The call and response pairing of cuts on either side of the record both adds to the wooze and eases the orientation.

“Making music for this record was an exercise in playing for myself alone.” says Cully. “The catalyst for 'Everyone’s Already Come Apart' was a painter-like need for destruction of the canvas - reconstructing previous rough edits and forgotten weirder motifs into something even more unique and beautiful. It was almost more of an exercise in listening than playing. If it sounded weird, then it had to be made weirder. I wanted to let the sounds breathe.”

Touch Sensitive is honoured to dig into the vaults of legendary cult French group Vox Populi! with a collection primarily pulling from their creative highpoint of 1986-1990. The vast majority of the works are unreleased and all make their first appearance on vinyl. The recordings have been licensed from the group’s extensive archive, mastered by Rupert Clervaux and cut by Andreas Kauffelt at Schnitstelle. The release is completed by liner notes focusing on Vox Populi!’s creative process and prolific output.

Springing from the rip it up restart of post-punk in 1980 and primarily active throughout that decade, Vox Populi!'s discography is a perfect showcase of an almost unclassifiable group. The often-used ‘ethno- industrial’ tag - even if not approved by the group - goes some way to describing a melting pot of primarily self-taught techniques and vast cultural influences. Founding member Axel Kyrou’s parents were avant- garde musicians and filmmakers resulting in a heavy cultural immersion from a young age. His partner and bandmate Mitra moved from Iran to Paris in 1978 - followed a few years later by her virtuoso brother Arash who joined the group at the age of 14.

Based in their 14th arronidissement studio - previously Axel and his brother’s family playroom - Vox Populi! quickly became a lynchpin in the Parisian experimental scene and beyond through the burgeoning mail-art scene. The group contributed work to a huge number of independent labels.

Their music and approach quickly progressed from rudimentary experiments to harness transcendental spiritual qualities and moments of intense beauty. In this collection, we can feel the vibrations of Don Cherry’s Organic Music Society, Faust’s communal explorations and King Tubby’s forward-thinking studio experimentation.

“We recorded everything - every idea. We would always have a cassette or a reel running. We made such different styles - freaky, alternative, experimental, industrial etc. We had no rules and no plans - our main motives were play and pleasure. I think that many people can feel that in the music.”

Three tracks recorded in 2017 by a reconfigured Vox Populi! sit perfectly with music from 30 years previous - “We were never defined by fashion or the zeitgeist. So we remained ourselves. Our sound is still natural. We had to be turned on by our own music and we wanted the music to have an impact on consciousness. We were the subjects of our own experiments and there was also a kind of mystery - even for us."

The Psyko Tropix collection is another magical and mysterious addition to the open-hearted and open-eared world of Vox Populi!

How To Apply For A Job

They had been walking and wandering through the sandy outback for an awfully long time. It seemed as though they had been on their feet for a lifetime, moving slowly through the desert towards the hope of something more. They needed water, we needed water. The light was dying over the dunes in the distance and soon the sun would be gone leading to nothing but the dense bitter cold of an autumn night. 

Group Zero is the moniker of Belfast's Cathal Cully. This is a new project for Touch Sensitve Records and see's him dabble in experimental electronic flavours - a mutated, abstract, downtempo, dubby, krautrock inspired record which is not but one thing.

The rain came down harder than ever before today, it left thick streaks down the windows that obscured the outside world. It seemed to mirror her mood; no matter how much she tried, she couldn't read him at all - his mouth said one thing but his eyes said something completely different. Unbeknownst to him she'd already been putting their relationship to the test, and as it stood he wasn't set to pass with flying colours. 

Cork-based singer and musician Elaine Howley has made a name for herself in Ireland's underground music scene as part of several groups, Crevice, Howlbux and The Altered Hours. As a solo artist her work is intimate and personal, weaving together dusty, textural motifs and lo-fi ditties that suck you into her sonic world. Her newest LP, The Distance Between Heart and Mouth, takes a diaristic form. Recorded on a four-track cassette machine during 2019 and 2020, the nine tracks are guided by Elaine's distant, wistful vocals which sit on a bed of sounds that touch on dub, alt-pop, soul, chanson and psychedelic folk, reminiscent of artists like Broadcast, Leslie Winer and Tirzah.

He sped down the freeway, the wild west on all four sides. The heat was blazing down upon no mans land from up above as he drove ever faster into the setting sun.

In the distance he could see the horizon, the end was in sight. Was he being entirely reasonable? Were his intentions pure?

A late night voicemail from Cherrystones: “Phone me! I’ve got something killer! It might not make sense at first but it’ll suck you in...”
After hearing the outsider psych of ‘Distant Visions’ we are suitably hooked and the wheels are in motion to reissue the music of Maya from 1975.

It’s at this point we realise we ain’t even heard the A-side yet! Turns out it’s the heaviest heartbreak jam going…

Following on from 2015’s acclaimed Critical Mass compilation, Cherrystones and Touch Sensitive come together again to proudly present a lost masterpiece from the U.S. hard rock and psychedelic underground.

Fully remastered and faithfully reproduced on limited 7inch vinyl with additional insert featuring lyrics and notes from Burk Skyhorse Price (Maya) and Cherrystones.

Two tracks of timeless, heartfelt outsider music.

“In the drying up world of unknown homemade underground rock sounds, there never fails to be at least one scurrying rodent running for cover; bug-eyed under the flashlight of the modern-day sonic adventure seeker. Nearly all the LPs have been brought to the surface. More recently rabid fuzz and loner sound explorers are rubbing elbows with Northern Soul speed-freaks in the deep cold, hour-eating world of coverless 45s to seek out what could be seen as the final frontier of no budget, big dream and no fan base homemade local vulnerable Rock ’n’ Roll.

So what do we have here? A UK discovered and repressed Ohio private nuclear soul bomb by Burk Skyhorse Price with his Maya unit from the shadows of Cincinnati Ohio, in the music-world turmoil years of 1975.

The single has all the ingredients: songs about heartache, bubbling synths, alien feelings, proto-punk, backwards feedback, isolation.

Two lengthy songs of two different moods: “SYNTHEZOID HEARTBREAK” a "Fuck You!” to all partners that want you to join the Real Estate game and turn in your misfired Envelope pedals for a suit and tie; rendered musically in a raging underground punk damage mode.

But I think the small band of freaks that have heard Maya’s lone 45 agree that its the pro-Alien sad dirge of “DISTANT VISIONS" that gets the pen scratching the history books for another legendary entry. This reflective afternoon delay lurker makes me wonder what happened AFTER the fade out to "Visions”. 
Maybe the homemade air siren blew out the studio?
Regardless, here is a big dreaming band that left quite a brief one-two punch to the face of the industry that had no place for their punk and lonely sound poems. Funny but fitting how they have finally found a home forty years later and many continents away. Solid homemade damage here, touching AND sensitive, albeit crushingly loud.”

Documenta will release 'Love As A Ghost' as a digital download through Touch Sensitive Records on Friday 22nd July.

Originally appearing as the centrepiece of their 2015 album 'Drone Pop #1', the single version of 'Love As A Ghost' features additional inspiration and instrumentation from the tracks' producer, David Holmes.

Love As A Ghost's widescreen, spectral 7 minutes outlines a group enthralled with the endless possibilities of repetition, melody and rhythm; haunting the same sonic cathedrals as My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, and The Jesus and Mary Chain at their most ethereal.

Following a suggestion from Holmes, 'Love As A Ghost' is the first Documenta track to feature Roisin Stewart on lead vocals. Joe Greene (vocals, guitar) “knew it was her song as soon as I heard it. The sense of detachment yet feeling in her voice still gets me.”

'Structures And Light’ is the first record from Group Zero (Cathal Cully - Girls Names)

“Here’s a record from a Belfast bedroom that sounds nothing like the city, past or present. It’s made with synths and drum machines, and it glistens with subtle Euro sophistication.”

Written, recorded and mixed intermittently over four years, the narrative of ‘Structures And Light’ is bound by a deepening connection with electronics, instrumentation, and the studio.
With no imminent touring schedule or release deadlines, Cully built a modest home setup and began producing on his own again - “It was as an exercise in my own development and it was fun. It brought the naivety and spontaneity back to making music”.
Initially, it was for his personal consumption alone - selfishly indulgent.
In fact, this first collection of Group Zero music - along with a library of other ideas and sketches - was thought to be eternally lost and all but forgotten until a chance conversation with Touch Sensitive led to the tracks being salvaged and subsequently restored.

“Day breaks: dig those fast linear movements and rhythms (‘The Fantasist’). Then fall for the unexpected guitar line in ‘Pursuit’; a gentle kind of cold wave optimism.”

The genesis of this newly discovered musical freedom coincided with a viewing of ‘Pyramid of Light’ by Heinz Mack from the post-war Dusseldorf based Group Zero art movement which resonated deeply. “It stirred up questions and emotions which I could not get from a book or a screen. It was the direct relation between me, the light and the physical object hanging on the wall. New moments of beauty locked in the memory. I was in awe.”

“Night heals: there’s ‘pummelling repetition’ here too, for the club freaks or shut-ins. Slow, industrial shocks that give way to ‘Pyramid of Light’s stark new-age burst.”

Cully was also taking influence from a range of contemporary electronic producers - on labels such as LIES, Diagonal, Optimo Music, Blackest Ever Black, and PAN: “These records felt as much in keeping with post-punk traditions and my own DIY background whilst tapping into the primitive ideas of masters such as Cluster, Suicide, Malaria! and the proto-techno of pre-club music.”
Just as a structure obscures or reflects light furnishing us with new ways of seeing; the propulsive rhythms in 'Structures And Light’ reveal subtle differences on each repeated cycle.

This is music to go away from and travel to.

Following several releases on Downwards and Clan Destine and hot on the heels of his debut LP, ‘Suffocating Brothers’, the ‘Dyslexia Tracks’ EP sees Autumns deliver 5 tracks and 38 minutes of brutal beauty for Touch Sensitive.

Aligning itself closely to his recent devastating live performances - where snares (and belts) crack like whips and synthesizers “wriggle like a fucking eel” - ‘Dyslexia Tracks’ completes Autumns’ journey from his post-punk beginnings to producing some of the tautest and toughest electronic music we’ve heard in some time.
From the Hidden Reverse of Whitehouse and Throbbing Gristle to the futurism of Drexciya, Underground Resistance and other Detroit dons, Autumns sucks up influence and spits it out onto the darkest, sweatiest, haze-filled dance floors.

Alongside progressive appearances on cult labels and an acclaimed collaboration with renowned techno experimentalist Samuel Kerridge at the 2016 edition of Paris Fashion Week, Donaghey’s restless work ethic has seen him share stages in Europe and the US with The KVB, Lust For Youth, Beak>, Silent Servant & DVA Damas.

Autumns will play an extensive run of shows throughout Europe in support of ‘Dyslexia Tracks’ and his debut album.

Nearly four years since David Holmes minted our label with his Ivor Novello award winning score for Yann Demange’s ’71’, Touch Sensitive is both proud and very pleased to present the release of his latest soundtrack ‘Mosaic’.

Initially released as an interactive app in which the viewer directed the narrative - Mosaic is a six-part HBO series conceived and directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Sharon Stone.
Mosaic is a twisting tale of passion, intrigue and deception focusing on the disappearance of a high-profile resident of picturesque Summit, Utah and the four-year effort by law- enforcement and civilians to discover the truth behind the crime.

With that in mind, Mosaic’s original soundtrack weaves as intriguing a tale. Recorded between Belfast and Los Angeles by Holmes, the album features a modern-day Wrecking Crew of musicians.
Echoes of Maestro Morricone abound alongside the influence of avant-garde pioneers and Holmes' current soundtrack contemporaries in a selection of deep listening tracks.

To quote Mark Kermode, 'Mosaic' outlines Holmes’ expertise at “ratcheting up the tension” with strings, horns and synthesizers swelling throughout.
As this tension peaks there is inevitable release - in rhythmic and harmonic tracks such as ‘What I Want Is The Red Room’ and Badalamenti-esque lounge eeriness in the likes of ‘Four Years Later’ - guiding the 20 cues presented on this release into a cohesive, full and nuanced album that reveals subtle and rewarding intricacies on each repeated listen.

‘Mosaic’ once again outlines Holmes as a modern master of the original soundtrack.

Following on from their sold-out LP for Touch Sensitive and a digital reissue of it’s predecessor, Documenta take a break from their Drone Pop trilogy to introduce the Lady With The Ring - Margorie McCall - “lived once, buried twice”.

McCall lived in rural Ireland in the early 18th century. She succumbed to a fever and was hastily buried in Lurgan’s Shankill cemetery. Her grave was visited by “a tramp of disreputable character with a reckless and thieving disposition” who drew blood as he tried to prise the ring from her finger, awakening the dead woman who subsequently lived for many years after.

The Lady With The Ring EP sees Documenta’s regular seven-piece lineup temporarily swell with narration from author and musician Will Carruthers (Playing The Bass With Three Left-Hands, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized) providing counterpoint to Roisin Stewart’s hazed vocals as she tells the story from the dead woman’s lips.

Self-recorded in one weekend a stone's throw from McCall’s grave and subsequently re- worked and shaped by the group, Lady With The Ring introduces sparkling synthesized passages and an organic ‘cosmic-blues’ to Documenta’s already lush sonic expanse.

Touch Sensitive is proud to present it's third release with Ivor Novello and Bafta Award-winning modern master of the soundtrack, David Holmes, working in collaboration with composer Brian Irvine.

Set in Northern Ireland, directed by Holmes’ longtime friends Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa (Good Vibrations, Cherrybomb), and written by legendary Irish playwright Owen McCafferty (whom Holmes has known for forty years), the film tells the extraordinary story of Tom (Liam Neeson) and Joan (Lesley Manville) - their life and love as they enter the uncertainty and upset of Joan’s cancer diagnosis.

In a career rich in highly personal work, Ordinary Love is up there with the most affecting in Holmes’ canon.
Recorded between Abbey Road and Holmes’ own Drama Studio, the soundtrack features input from some of his most trusted collaborators. Holmes states: “I worked on the score with Brian Irvine. He is a longtime friend and the first person I ever had studio experience with 27 years ago. It felt important to work with Brian on this as his father (Ronnie), Owen’s father (Gerry) and my father (Jackie) - all now deceased - were great friends through a shared love of Point-to-Point horse racing and their work as bookmakers. For the three of us to work together on this was an opportunity I couldn’t ignore.”

There is also contributions from Holmes’ bandmates, Jade Vincent and Keefus Ciancia, who comprise the trio Unloved. The group’s sound has been central to the much lauded Killing Eve soundtracks, which saw Holmes and Ciancia pick up a Bafta in 2019.
Vincent provides a stand-out performance - lending her haunting and smoky vocals to the albums centrepiece and final track - ‘Isn’t It So’.

The score to Ordinary Love wasn’t inspired by any other soundtrack or even musical composition but by a mathematical theory called The Game of Life. Devised by mathematician John Conway in 1970, The Game of Life is not your typical computer game. It consists of a collection of cells which, based on a few mathematical rules, can live, die or multiply as the cells form various patterns throughout the course of the game.
“Because of the nature of the story, this really spoke to Brian and I in a musical sense and we started to create the score with the notion that the notes in each cue resembled human cells, living
and dying as Joan’s journey with cancer unfolded.”

Much like the film's recurring motifs - such as the couple's regular hospital visits - the score uses gentle rhythms and repetition to underline the comfort and balance in Tom and Joan’s routine - even though a potentially life-changing event looms over them.
The score grounds the listener whilst providing an almost dreamlike blank canvas in which to live and to love.

The film is a very delicate piece and Tom and Joan’s everyday life is very normal so trying to create a soundtrack that not only felt like their world but had its own unique voice with real emotion wasn’t easy.”

Those in the know speak of Cherrystones alongside the finest curators and compilers of our time. Preferring to move in the shadows, you won’t find Cherrystones on every identikit summer festival line-up or playing the big bucks Discogs tease on social media. However, it is why you will find him as one of the most long-standing members of the NTS family - “the greatest ever to do it”, according to founder Femi Adeyemi. And it’s why a host of underground artists make the call to check out his legendary record vault when passing through town. Or maybe you will have caught him at ease for hours behind the decks in the corner of an intimate, dimly lit joint pulling out killer jam after killer jam... 

Running parallel to his world renown for collecting, archiving and sharing the furthest-flung sounds, Goddard’s own productions and soundtracks have long been revered - recently scoring campaigns for Adidas, Stone Island and YMC. Self taught as a teenager on a range of instrumentation and DIY production/programming techniques, his work is driven by the original idea of punk as an aesthetic - a creative portal devoid of rules. He has a life-long obsession with the soundtrack and was also gripped early by a love of rap (a trusted MPC 2000 never far from his side). The channeling of context, underscore, timing and placement has always fuelled the distinctive flavour of Cherrystones’ output. 

This open-eared and open-armed approach is what makes ‘Critical Mass Vol.2’ another stunning compilation. As Goddard states: “this is not a rare-for-rare-sake appendix of bands designed to showcase exclusivity and superiority”. These are tracks that have lived with him, and he has lived within, gathered over travels throughout Europe - living, DJ-ing, and creating. 

Five years on from the first volume, this eighteen track compilation once again fully outlines the breadth and possibility of the post-punk and new wave era. “Many of these artists fell by the wayside as underdogs or were just too ahead of their time. These selections have strong rhythmic undertones - percussively and tonally - and you can hear the subtle influence of dance music and the dance floor as a reference point.” 

On our journey we hear hyped up punk-funk from the Netherlands in the form of Konec, the cosmic synth-stomp of Daniele Baldelli approved Italians - Neon, the gonzo, outsider shrieks of England’s Loco Lotus, through to the dark, dance floor groove of Belgium’s Siglo XX and, of course, there’s a whole heap more outré excursions on the way. 

“From one of the last true originals - a personal, passionate draft of a "scene" that could have been. As far as possible from diggers' wet dreams - most of the music here is/was hidden in plain sight. So take one step back and figure out what might have gone wrong."
