Welcome back past Daisychainer (#112), Brooklyn's Dee Diggs (@dee_diggs), taking us on a kinetic vibe journey and love-dancing through uplifting house for the Daisychain residency on Berlin's Refuge Worldwide 📡🌐🌼

Dee Diggs is a Brooklyn-based DJ dedicated to celebrating the Black and queer origins of house music and creating space for marginalized groups to express and organize themselves. 

Her energetic, yet deep approach to DJing has seen this Boston to Brooklyn transplant lighting up dancefloors all over; in particular, garnering attention in the queer party scenes. The year 2020 found her at the top of her game after a debut European tour during August 2019, her name popping up on top bills on a weekly basis in NYC, before the COVID-19 pandemic curtailed that momentum. Now in 2021, she can be found returning to DJing at IRL parties, still crafting soulful nostalgic DJ mixes for Soundcloud and radio, while also building her music production chops in her home studio, and her event House of Diggs.

When Chicago footwork vet Jana Rush sent us her exclusive Bleep mix, we were surprised to see it was labelled ‘chill mix’. Her 2021 masterpiece Painful Enlightenment is anything but; it’s a maniacal record that defies the genre completely, fuelled by discombobulated rhythms, disarming samples and unsayable darkness. But sure enough, Rush delivers a downright lovely hour of laid back beats with her mix, in which even 150+ bpm cuts seem like gentle, rolling bubbles when they underpin choice smooth jazz samples and expertly placed weight shifts from hooky juke and strangely amniotic synth adornments.

This week's podcast comes from Venetta, mainstay of the Vancouver electronic music scene and co-founder of NuZi collective, a platform dedicated to uplifting Black women & trans folks in the city's local electronic music scene. In Venetta's words:
Playing sets that focus on playing one genre or mood feels very monotonous to me, and I prefer oscillating between light and dark sounds that build up tension and create divergent moods. This mix incorporates all the club, hard techno, trance, and rave sounds that you can expect to hear during my live sets. I recently played a closing set at an outdoor party in LA that was super cathartic so I wanted this set to embody the twists & turns that took place during that set, and really encompass the rollercoaster experience.
