2013 Resident Mix of the Year goes to 'Coldcut meets The Orb - The Return Trip', which was the first show to properly kick off our 25th Anniversary year..............

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK's assassination and 21 years after their historic '92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over 3 hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight - but also loose - 2 hour Solid Steel session.

Swimming through the mix are Lee Perry, Killing Joke, Sun Ra, William Burroughs, Teebs, Ry Cooder, Actress, Prince Jammy, Iggy Pop, Monty Python, Hank Williams and Hal 9000. Alongside unreleased dubs from the players themselves, remixes and versions of tunes old and new, the complete track listing for this marathon set may never be fullly disclosed. It's 2 hours, 10 minutes of sonic secrets to melt your mind, probably best listened to in headphones late at night with all suitable facilities for the full effect. Enjoy this trip.

Future Shock was a 2hr mix that DJ Food cooked up for an online 'pirate' radio station a couple of friends set up earlier this year called Altar Ego Radio. Billed as 'Music from the Future you remember from your Past', he mixed sci-fi electronica with a retro feel from Jokers of the Scene, Falty DL. The Books, Sculpture, Nico Motte and Jeremy Schmidt. Here's the first hour, exclusively sans the chat of the original broadcast which was hosted like a regular radio show. Much like his recent Magpie Music mix of a few weeks ago he intends to expand on these themes in forthcoming Future Shock mixes focussing on the more electronic side of his current tastes. DJ Food looks back once again for our 25th Anniversary slot taking 'Free Comic Book Day' (this Saturday, May 4th) as his theme to present tracks that feature references to comic book characters. The Marvel and DC worlds of Superman, Batman and Spiderman feature heavily with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Cliff Richard revealing their passion for Caped Crusaders and Wall Crawlers. But the more obscure feature too with three nods to Judge Dredd, two for Flash Gordon and even Elton John singing the praises of Dan Dare. DJ Food will have a piece of artwork in a new exhibition called Image Duplicator - looking at the original comic artists that Lichtenstein copied for his most famous work - opening on May 16th at Orbital Comics in London.

TOYDRUM are Pablo Clements / James Griffith ( UNKLE / Psychonauts / / Lake Trout / Big In Japan )

Pablo and James  have been working together since 2007, as part of the creative force behind UNKLE music. UNKLE are known for producing diverse music from electronic, rock and particularly cinematic music with numerous credits on films, such as X-Files and Twilight: Eclipse

Pablo has also had success in his own right with the Psyconauts and worked with David Holmes on various films including Oceans 12.  He has a hugely eclectic and in-depth knowledge of music and is a master of all matters to do with programming and beats.  

James comes from a more traditional musician background, having spent many years as part of American based bands Lake Trout and Big In Japan before joining the UNKLE troupe.  As well as being a multi-instrumentalist, James has a real handle on song structure and melody that has been honed over the years

They now write and produce music together under the name of Toydrum.  Continuing to push their sound forward from the music they created as UNKLE.
