This next Toy Tonics EP takes one more step into a futuristic sound that connects Broken Beat, House & Neo Soul.
The EP was produced by Fényan. France based dancer and producer (originally from Martinique) who hooked up with Kosmo Kint.  Soul singer raised in New York and since one year part of The Toy Tonics crew in Berlin.

Fényan & Kosmo Kint met shortly after Kosmo Kint's first release on Toy Tonics (the „Get Lost“ EP with french producer Mangabey). Together they created three magic sparkling pieces of music. A unique sound inspired by the UK Jazz sound and the broken beat scene. A great further step in the evolution of uptempo Neo Soul dancemusic.

Fényan's rhythms are special. The groove is unique. This music makes you dance differently. No wonder as Fényan (his real name is Kwame)  is a professional dancer. 
He is travelling around the world teaching dancing with his own dance company and is a judge on international dance battles. Besides dancing, he has been producing beats since the age of 19 on his MPC. Influenced by the great names of deep jazz and fusion, but also inspired by the music from his origin Martinqiue: Zouk, Biguine, Bélè… you can feel this in the programming of his beats.

Besides the MPC Fényan tried many instruments, but mainly it’s the keyboards and the trumpet what he feels well with intuitively.
Kosmo Kint lives in Berlin for three years. He came from NYC where he was singing in Soul bands, hanging out with musicians and also writing songs for other artists. He is one of the many artists that moved from the big apple to Berlin recently. He joined the Toy Tonics crew almost 2 years ago to work on new styles between House and Soul. Disco and R&B. In fact there is a big movement of international top musicians coming to the German capital. It's not just DJs in Berlin. But a huge community of ex-pad musicians working on all kind of styles. Mixing the European electronic dancefloor music with all kinds of vibes and influences. And many of these musicians find a new home on Toy Tonics records.

We're going a little off piste with something new on SB this week... We welcome returning mad scientist Scruscru with his buddy Mike Fot who came to us with the beginnings of a weird and wonderful new off shoot series called Spliff Jamz. 

Following a series of visits to Moscow between 2018 and 2020 to play at Powerhouse club, Scruscru would swing by Mike Fot’s apartment for a smoke and a jam session, working with a variety of Roland and Korg gear late into the night. It’s been an interesting couple of years for Clive From Accounts. After being picked up by keen-eared funk wizards Fouk, Clive’s vinyl debut hit the shelves perfectly to coincide with the largest record shop and club closure in living memory. Undeterred and with a fire in his belly he pressed on and released a string of quality EPs on highly respected labels like On The Corner Records (which made The Guardian’s best tracks of 2020) and Dirt Crew Recordings, leading him on to the second half of 2021 with a 5-track EP on Brooklyn’s disco colossus, Razor-N-Tape Reserve.

Dam Swindle are back on Heist and coming in hot with a series of 3 releases in 2022 to celebrate a decade of Dam Swindle. The aptly titled ‘Keep on Swindling’ EP’s form a collection of classic DS tracks that have been re-engineered and remixed as well as new material from the Dutch duo. The first EP features two new originals, a stellar rework of ‘The Break Up’ by rising UK jazz star Emma-Jean Thackray, and a 2022 mix of the 2014 ‘64 Ways’ featuring Mayer Hawthorne.  

The EP kicks off with ‘Body Control’; A fresh DS production that has all the elements in there to become their next club hit. A tight garage groove smothered in congas forms the basis along with its deep repetitive bassline. It’s the musical elements that make this track really stand out though. There’s swinging offbeat synths, sample chops, lush pads and vibrant arpeggios building momentum for dancers to lose their sh*t (or their body control) every time this track is played.  ‘The Break Up’, was originally part of the first release on Heist back in 2013 has only been remixed once in that same year by Max Graef. Now getting a full makeover courtesy of the amazingly talented Emma-Jean Thackray, who has been playing the original in her sets for time. Her version is loaded with newly recorded parts – vocals and horns included - and gives the original an amazing live jazz twist. This remix gave us some serious goosebumps when we first heard it and is in one word: essential!  

On the flip, the duo offers a 2022 mix of their track ’64 Ways’ featuring Mayer Hawthorne. Originally released as part of their album Boxed Out in 2014 and was their first venture into vocal collaborations. None other than

Mayer Hawthorne - a serious house-head himself - travelled over to Amsterdam to record the track and it was an instant hit! Now, with some new engineering, the guys have dusted off their old project to great effect. The 2022 mix makes this track sound warm, powerful, and well rounded, giving new life to this DS classic.  The final track of the EP is ‘All I want’; the second production on this record that sees Dam Swindle deliver a track that has ‘summer festival’ written all over it; synth stabs, diva vocals, acid lines and a huge breakdown included.  

The ‘Keep on Swindling’ EP is the first outing of Dam Swindle in their anniversary year. A year that will be filled with curated events, headline shows, fan specials and most importantly, a lot of new music. As always, enjoy the music and Dam Swindle hope to see you on the dancefloor. @Crackazat has already had an incredible year with the release of his stunning album Evergreen on Freerange which is easily one of the albums of the year so far. Now he is back on @heistrecordings following up his stand-out Alfa EP from last year for them.

The new EP, Demucha lands with three scintillating tracks taking his jazz infused house sound and delivering perfectly for the dancefloor.

Our premier from the EP today is Sarge a delightful house track with it's roots in the 90's courtesy of it's simple but addictive bassline and edgy drums. As always where Crackazat stands out is his incredible work on the keys whether that is adding euphoric textures or classy keys or even enigmatic energy packed atmospherics.
