Michel Baumann's second release on 18437 is under the Soulphiction moniker and while 2021 is still young, he managed to pull off the one of the best house tracks so far with the opening track Ballin'
The phrase 'top-shelf material' springs to mind for sure.

Fluid Funk Recordings was founded in 2019 by Eric Hendriks and Amir Maani Shirazi. Rotterdam based, the label is dedicated to soulful house, hip hop, jazz, funk, soul, disco and everything in between. The release roster has so far included Brazilian trail blazer Felipe Gordon, the brilliant Sven Wegner, plus dynamic new acts like Uzu Moon, Beau Zwart and Sykes. The quality of these releases from Fluid Funk has remained consistently high.

For the labels next effort, dexterous manipulator of soulful grooves and sample-heavy blends, comes German producer Simon Hinter.  Hinter has established himself as a key players in the house scene the last few years, piling up choice platters for the likes of Freerange, Madhouse, Nite Grooves and Quintessentials. His track ‘Wanna Make Love’ making it onto Disclosure’s longed-for DJ Kicks selection. It’s with four tracks of the same deadeye bouncing ilk that Hinter opens 2022 for Fluid Funk, dispensing his inimitable gospel on his new Ep ‘Phoenix Flight’.

 

High on jazz clarinet lines, brittle chords and drum workouts of the Chicagoan continuum, the title-track ‘Phoenix Flight’ paves the way in the smoothest fashion possible. ‘Belly Belly’ follows with an exuberant display of loopy funk, exhilarated talk, ear-worm bass and doped-up classic string flights . On the broken beat end of the spectrum, ‘Crazy Times’ makes for an understated, slo-churning ride into instrumental hip-hop territories, while ‘Big Train’ reroutes us to the path of collaged, multi-strain funkiness with its lush assembly of early house rhythms, jazzy Rhodes and rugged hip-hop vibe.

One of Chicago's finest production and DJ talents, and a close Stateside Lobster family member - Garrett David - returns for a studio-focused foray into Chicago's sonic house music history. 

Live From The Dog Cave is a full family affair, with production mates Colin Johnson and Adam Rowe featuring on the A1 and B2. It's a real snapshot of young Windy City talent in 2017, warm tubes glowing, midnight studio snacks and early morning mix downs. 

Ooh Aah is a stodgy stomper. Ticket-y percussion and full kicks leave enough space underneath for that GD classic bass-line to bump and groan. Elements of Detroit house collide with an unexpected new age tinge around the mid section; string stabs and Yamaha preset synth 'aah''s melding into a single Midwest call. 

Taking the ominous vocal ideas of the A1, Sample Sesh adds a heavy filtered guitar/vox sample combo that wouldn't be out of place on a cheeky filtrated discos edit 12" or even a cut drawn from the subtler sides of French house. 

Two Nineteen kicks off the flip, again those lil snippet vocals chattering away around smooth silky 808 patterns, hot-towelled soft stabs and resonant string sweeps. 

Closing out the EP, Touched Feb rides a grumbling drive-time bass-line into the dusty distant horizon. Garrett & Adam on a serious jam tip! Richochet'd guitar / MS-20 mid-rolls and flicks of the plectrum; drum skits; organ filtration & ADSR noodling. The real bizz.

Young, family-run imprint Salin Records continues its conquest of clubs and homes alike with their signature brand of classy, jazz-infused house cuts.

Lyon-local Saint Paul is the first guest to contribute an entire solo EP to the catalogue with ‘A Jazz Delirium’, further confirming his craftsmanship after notable recent releases on Better Listen Records and his own Moonrise Hill Material.

There’s a cosily prominent piano on the title track, slightly more decisive vibes on ‘Rap On’ and that wonderfully heart-warming keys and horn combo on soon-to-be crowd favourite ‘O.D. Of Love’. ‘Seashore Groove’ wraps things up with some seriously funky vibes for the hardworking man, concluding what might be one of the most precious packages of the second half of 2018.

The MUSHROOM HOUSE compilation is a collection of balearic, afro and cosmic disco tracks that have been released on several Toy Tonics EPs over the last 5 years. Toy Tonics now releases some of these EPs on a double vinyl together. This is the second part. Featuring eleven tracks. (Vol 1 was released in 2020.)

Original tracks and remixes by friends of the label: Kiwi, Red Axes,  Karl Hector, Hugo Capablanca, Harry Wolfman. Very special contributions by New York's legendary Joe Claussell and fashion designer Marcelo Burlon, who contributed the vocals to a song by Milan’s Barking Dogs. Art Alfie from Studio Barnhus is featured also with an exclusive track and legendary DJ Sprinkles with a magic rework of a Hard Ton song.

A few of the tracks had been already released on Gomma records. The now sleeping indie-electronica label that was the „mother“ of Toy Tonics records. Some were made exclusively for Toy Tonics.
