I was 3 years old when I was diagnosed with autism. I was 9 years old when I learned that I have autism. I learned that about myself when I transferred from a private school to a public school my late 3rd grade year so I could be enrolled in special education services. It was a major change in my life. From that point until I was 17, I was ashamed of having autism, thought being born with it was the worst thing that ever happened to me, and would hide it at all costs because I believed my autism was the source of every social and behavioral incident I encountered. I got bullied throughout grade school, middle school, and high school because of how different my autism made me as a person. My then step-dad took advantage of me because of how different I functioned as a human being due to my autism. With that being said, I felt like I am less of a person because of my autism, and I believed autism is an infection in my brain that desperately needs to be surgically removed. When I was 17 however, I came to the realization that the reason why my autism has been bringing me down is because I have not been using it correctly as a youth. Having autism is like having the force (on Star Wars of course). If a Jedi does not know how to use the force, it will not do the Jedi any good whereas if a Jedi does know how to use the force, it will be the Jedi's greatest advantage. The same principles apply to autism. With that being said, I decided to use the power of my autism to my advantage by standing out as a person with qualities no other human beings possess instead of trying to be just like everybody else and keeping my autism (the heart of my uniqueness a person) concealed. Thus, this album was born.
