Mario Ortega, a Valencian-born DJ better known as  @waveletar, is an electro enthusiast and full supporter of only-vinyl sets who started playing records about ten years ago after having been influenced by 90s labels such as Warp, Skam, and later ones as Touchin’ Bass, or SCSI-AV. From that moment on, he became a member of Hypnotica Colectiva up until now, granting him the opportunity to play along with some of the big names in the scene namely Carl Finlow, Boris Divider, and Umwelt among others. This is a dedication to the dutch Transhumanism collective and especially to Wibo Lammerts, who tragically passed away this summer.

Slaves of Sinus … who has developed his own awesome and special style like nobody else..
RXMode…his music always hits you directly in the face and if not, opens a hell of an atmosphere..
TFHats…his 242ish vocals beside great compositions I like so much because I always feel home listening to them..

Since I started again producing in 2020, Wibo has been a constant source of kindness and honesty at the same time. He liked the melody of Cosmodrome and got me back on my producers feet in no time with his constructive feedback and inspiration. Even after that, he regularly checked on me if i have new stuff, how my tracks are going along and our conversations soon went past being just about music.

He once told me that there is a dutch saying which roughly translated means that whoever gives good will meet good and that he lives by that. I think this is the best description for him.

Rest in peace, mate....

I basically threw all my files from Wibo and my transhumanism tracks into one playlist, sorted it after bpm and gave it a shot...roughly 3 hours later, I was really happy about the flow and decided to publish.
There may be one or two track repeats...really should have cleaned the setlist before getting into it but couldn't wait to drop those bomb objects…

The open-minded attitude of understanding the World of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, and even Hip Hop makes it much easier to figure out what may have caused the emergence of the Detroit Techno and Electro scene. This is the case of Lamont Norwood, also known as DJ Di'jital, who grew up with all these groove influences.

Of course, it was the sounds of Kraftwerk in the first moment, and after that the Street Dance culture that guided him – mainly with the Electro-Funk classics of the beginning of the eighties. Fascinated, Norwood was caught by a whole movement that started with the Funk culture, but whose roots lie miles ahead. Largely influenced by the street sounds of Afrika Bambaata, Newcleus, and Cybotron that swirled into his mind during the eighties, Lamont decided to stretch to the boundaries and started a deep journey of musical research.

His DJ story began even before the acquaintance of the turntables at the beginning of the nineties: he started with double tape decks at a parent’s house with very limited options. But the natural mixing skills and the density of his musical background took him far beyond his dreams: more than ten years ago, he became a professional DJ, even if his professional highlight was yet to come.

Before the so-called professional ascension, he played tons of House parties as a Cabaret DJ. To be really integrated into the scene, it was just a question of time. He quickly shifted behind the decks and became part of the most important professionals behind the electro scene from the nineties. His melting pot of Electro-Funk, techno, booty and ghetto tech elements with scratching skills created a very unique ambiance in which DJ Di'jital drove the crowds wherever he wanted to.

In 1996, Lamont Norwood integrated the brilliant Aux 88 as their DJ and had the pleasure to experience live shows with them for years. In the same year 1996, he released his first track, 'Radar2Bass' which, according to his statements, was meant to be a 'Sinister Techno Bass'. It appeared on the 'Xperience De Bass II' EP by Direct Beat, the same label through which he released his first single: “Prototype”, a kind of definition for his sound, a free sound that was made to be included on the open-minded DJ’s repertories, which were really free to do whatever they wanted. He also released several other productions, remixes, and a couple of CDs through Direct Beat records, one of the most important labels of the electro scene.

Essentially versatile in the music scene, DJ Di'jital built a really solid foundation as a world-class DJ all these years. His repertories, which are an amazing combination of electro classics with more contemporaries, should not be missed. He is currently building a new recording studio and Arcade in Downtown Detroit.

Dark Science Electro presents: DJ Dij'ital guest mix

Today we introduce you to the Electro producer and live act OBZERV, based in the U.K. His music inspired by concepts from the realms of science fiction and through his subtle observation of life.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

- There is not one artist that has inspired me the most, different artists are constantly inspiring me in different ways. Two artists that come to mind straight away are Animistic Beliefs and The Outsert. These two artist have been inspiring me recently to create music that doesn’t specifically confine to any genre and takes inspiration from different genres and cultures to create something that is different.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have not been working very much on releasing music at the moment but you can expect to see some of my electro work on Cultivated Electronics and GunFinger Food in the coming year.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I really have no idea. I want to release some of my new music eventually but I am always asking myself which labels would be good for me to release on. For listening pleasure I have been listening to mostly friends music recently, labels such as Patchbay Records, Gunfinger Food feel relevant to me at the moment because I personally feel involved in their journey.

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- I mostly inspired by my friends to create music. I am constantly working with friends and in the midst of collaboration I feel that my most creative side comes out. I feel a lot more inspired when working with someone than when I am alone, I think this is because you have someone to bounce ideas back and fourth with and I feel a lot less judgmental about my work.

5. What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I have been gigging a bit recently so have been using my hardware to write music for my live sets. I am using a Digitakt, Digitone, SH01A, Micromonsta, a rat distortion pedal and a strymon deco tape saturation pedal. I will create ideas with this set up and try to make them into full tracks later on using ableton to record the sounds.

@ekatamusic is a London based DJ/Producer + @naturalselectionlondon Resident who has become a prominant and well respected artist in the Electro scene.

In 2022, she was selected as one of the new faces of @tresorberlin in Berlin, which saw her play an Electro set in the prestigious cage back in September.
She has also played at the likes of Meraki, Fold + @hoerberlin and she has a well recieved release on highly esteemed Avoidant, the Electro sub label of Soma records under her belt. 

With 5 more releases planned this year on some of her favourite Electro labels aswell as debut shows in Paris this spring, she's set to flourish further in 2023.

EKATA is self-described as genre and sound obsessive. She has built a reputation as a huge advocate for purist Electro and an artist that orchestrates a dark and warped experience that brings energy to the dancefloor with her meticulous signature style. Her sound best personifies ominous grooves and obvious sci-fi fixations which embody her carefully picked selections. ⚙️✨🛸
