O'Cardio - Cosmic Coins

Innocence, consciousness, warnings… Colossio crash-lands onto Duro with his first full EP for the label. It’s about time; a fellow Mexican alchemist and kindred spirit, Colossio’s dark disco melting pot and strong political energy has bubbled to the same beat as label imprint since the very beginning. Previously spotted on the label remixing Theus Mago and Local Suicide in 2019, he’s now back with three formidable slabs of tightly-sprung timelessness and a remix from Dominik Marz.

Each cut more foreboding than the last, ‘Inocência’ lives up to its name as the most playful cut of the collection. A gently cascading arpeggio takes the lead as classic Yello-style pitched vocals add fun and human warmth to the mix. Dark but not devilishly so, it lures you into Colossio’s world, setting you up for the more up-tempo, late night synth-heavy twist from Dominik Marz.

Up next comes ‘Consciência’, an eight-minute lesson in total tension that takes the theme to darker places. Not so much as a song, but more of a full saga; it’s a taut, sinewy creeper laced in suspense. A story waiting to unfold in the most unlikely ways, it’s followed by the final warning shots of ‘Advertência’. Literally translating to warning, it takes things in an even darker, tense direction. More industrial sounding in the drum department and more pitched vocal shots, it’s the consummate soundtrack to the bleak future we were warned about in the 80s… And living right now.

It is in this capacity that Karakter (@karakter-records) announces it's 15th release.  Born under Tel Aviv's sun and based in Berlin, Yotam Russo aka Lott (@yotam-russo) is the men behind our newest release, joined by Los Angeles duo Club Tularosa and the recently Lisbon based Rina, delivering two beautiful reinterpretation of Lott's creations.  "Mosi use to come and hang out in the studio with me, middle eastern sounds always charm him. The music wants to transmits an attitude towards life which is dark and humorist, punk and spiritual all together. A contrast we adapted living in Berlin.  It is an invitation to an unpredictable drive, taking left when its looking like right and going up when it feels like down, to try and not find reason in everything, to be who you are and celebrate dancing.  It is a clash of rave music from the 90’s and Lott's natural tendency to express his middle east influences in his sound."

New year, new music. Trampoliner welcomes Russian DJ & producer Zakir to the family. Zakir has a long history in the electronic dance scene, known for his versatile production skills and his exceptional and broad taste in music. With frequent releases on Sol Selectas and Disco Halal to name a few under his belt, he sure is one to keep a close eye on.

The title track is a real beast of a tune, combining his own style of breakbeats mixed with acid resulting in a super edgy and funky track. 'In Time' is an uplifting tune in which a rich and raw bassline powering along the track as you get lost in the magic of what feels like melodies from a golden era of the past.

Calypso Records boss and co-founder Iñigo Vontier does what he does best, delivering a trippy, heavy and well-knit mix of the title track that will lift the spirit of any dancefloor. Ombra International family member Skelesys slow things down on 'In Time' with his famously 'haunted sound' in what is a banger out of this world.

Zakir - In Time (Skelesys Remix) [Snippet]

Swedish label When Disco Goes Wrong reaches its fifth release. Curated by local heroes Mindbender and Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), the Brännö-based imprint invited Ruud Kalis aka TantRut for the occasion. Ruud moved from The Netherlands to Berlin about 15 years ago. At that time, he played flamenco guitar and hated his friends when they forced him to join them in their adventures at the local techno clubs. He met a Swedish girl, that later dumped him in Brännö. There he became friends with some local ravers, and he started to understand the true power of electronic music. Long story short: After becoming a quite successful DJ, playing not only in Sweden but also abroad, he finally started producing. For his debut release, the solid original received fancy remixes by Csk (SXDNS088) and the label honchos themselves.

Högt I Tak’s remix, the track we chose to premiere, brings the Swedish wizard in great shape when it comes to providing acid-as-hell interpretations of the works of his best friends. The title of his version for “Closed Centre” – Högt I Tak Acid Is Life Remix – will explain itself when you press play. A tip: The louder you can listen to it, the better.
