EPM Podcast 160 comes from US DJ/producer Mike Derer. Mike has been at the forefront of the United States techno scene since the late 1990s, initially influenced by Chicago House, he later developed his passion for techno. Developing his own identity and sound of deep, hypnotic techno that is groovy, stripped down and yet effective he then started the label Northern Parallels in 2018. Taking on younger and upcoming producers in addition with inviting legendary producers such as DJ Hyperactive & Dustin Zahn, Northern Parallels focuses on deeper, tripped out, hypnotic techno meant for the dance floor which is exactly Mike’s approach here as he mixes up the likes of Marco Carola, Packard, Rene Wise, Mattias Fridell & Alexander Johansson, Amorphic, Killa Bite, Donato Dozzy, Adam Beyer, Woody McBride and more.

EPM podcast #160 - Mike Derer

Early in 1998 Javier Escribano aka Utōpia found his way playing music by himself with two turntables and a mixer. 
After few years getting in shape he moved forward to perform in Clubs and Raves in Madrid sharing the dj booth with great artists, eventually with time becoming a Sound Technician.

DJ, producer and underground techno label owner of Asymmetrical Records.

Part of his musical influences have been dark and industrial, sounds like Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and DJs and producers like Surgeon, Jeff Mills which are also present in some of his sets. His first production came up in early 2000's for industrial/electronic music bands and he was already playing with some atmosphere techno music at that time. In 2021 - 2022 he was a resident Dj at London Radio & Bar AajaMusic where he runned his show called Raw_Techno.

Revelation of Sounds is pleased to present Kontinum. Initially inspired by the subcultural scene of his hometown of Lübeck, the young artist was strongly influenced by the predominant sound of the Leipzig techno scene. Especially the infamous Institut fuer Zukunft and its hypnotic and dissociative sound significantly formed his distinctive style and quickly paved his way into the local scene.

In 2017 then, he co-founded the project Nebula and after organising their first raves the collective quickly found its way into Leipzig's club scene and managed to establish its own event series at Institut fuer Zukunft.

In addition to managing most of Nebula's musical and organisational affairs, he continues to steadily enhance his own remarkable sound which can already be listened to on his recent releases on labels such as Circular Limited, Oslated or Lowless.

Reclaim Your City 017 | Fiedel (Berlin)

For Fiedel the three main musical influences are Electro/early Hip Hop (Egyptian Lover, Ice-T, 2 Live Crew, Mantronix), Acid/House (since 1986/87) and the Hard Wax record store in Berlin Kreuzberg. He started to dj publicly in the mid 90s on Mondays at a club called Subversiv, which then has been a constant in Berlin’s underground techno scene. Fiedel has demonstrably been one of the first djs to play Electro in this context. Besides he played serious techno from Carl Craig, Jeff Mills, the Burden Brothers, Mathew Johnson, Monolake, Soundhack and many others. When the moment is right, he also plays Hi-NRG. As he puts hit himself: Music should not be pigeonholed.

In 1996 and 1997 he released two eps on MMM with Errorsmith. Especially their track „Donna“ is considered a much played techno classic. Apart from his residency at OstGut / Berghain, he loves to play at clubs like Elastic (Leipzig), Suicide (Berlin), Club 69 (Glasgow), Ostklub (Frankfurt/Main) and Meccanoid (Melbourne).

Podcast #124 comes at you from Ukranian DJ and producer, Sqeef.

Sqeef’s unique blend of melancholic and spatial sounds had us fully captivated when we first discovered his music in early 2019 - his collaborative EP with Strom (UA) released that year, ‘Planetary Nebula’ (Northalsen Records) being a powerful, futuristic ride through interstellar space.

Sqeef’s hour-long mix for On the 5th Day rouses the exact same feeling - a cinematic-like experience thanks to the cosmic soundscapes and oscillating, organic percussions - each twist and turn taking you into a new corner of the cosmos.

Following many years as a classical pianist, Sqeef found himself drawn to the electronic music world - exploring the realms of ambient, experimental and the enticing rhythms and textures of deep, hypnotic techno. We're definitely grateful that his journey took him here!
