Well, it’s been a little while (350,400 minutes to be exact) since we last caught up. Life has its way of throwing curveballs, but here we are. And today, we’re diving into the musical world of Marli—Melbourne-born, Paris-based, feet-stomper, head-bopper, and all-around magical force who’s perfected the art of the irresistible thump.

Over the past few years, Marli’s star has undoubtedly risen, and it’s been an absolute joy to witness. Her journey is nothing short of inspiring, earned through sheer hard work and dedication.

Now, let’s talk about this mix. Marli has absolutely crushed it. She’s given us a glimpse into the creative depths of her mind, stepping away from the typical dancefloor energy and exploring the broader spectrum of sound. The mix is a quixotic, romantic fever dream, woven together with off-kilter rhythms, ethereal alt-R’n’B, mind-bending ambience, and world-spanning soundscapes. a kaleidoscopic session from one of the uk’s best gems, wordcolour. an artist who excels in storytelling through their productions, this approach to his craft is translated in podcast 215 as the mix gently starts with stunning ambient moments before building into a masterclass of drum programming. pacing through halftime, techno and IDM, it’s an unpredictable 72 minutes with wordcolour showing us his cards — a hand dealt with authenticity as a marker of where he’s at right now as a dj and producer. 

wordcolour made his production debut on lapsus records in 2020 before heading over to fabric’s esteemed imprint houndstooth where he released ‘juno way’ - a breakthrough record as such for wordcolour. this was the beginning of a long-standing relationship with houndstooth where he also went on to release ‘bluster’ ep featuring remixes from djrum, dj python and the soft pink truth, his debut album ‘the trees were buzzing, and the grass.’ and the ratios series. on all of these records, wordcolour’s ability to create detailed, immersive soundscapes which emotionally resonated with both home listening and dancefloor moments, has shined through. continuing on this path of world building, earlier this month wordcolour released the first ep on his new label, TiHKAL, from london-based artist st. amp. a label dedicated to exploring psychedelic soundscapes which is a direction that wordcolour has been producing in recently as well as ties in with the parties he now likes to attend, TiHKAL will be a new home for tracks that land within the 150-200 / 75-100 bpm zone.

to celebrate the release, wordcolour has pulled together a mix that delves into the influences behind this new direction and we chat more about the concept of TiHKAL, approach to curation, early influences and more.

“This set was on the last night, after spending the whole festival supervising the ambient tent, which I had the pleasure of curating this year. I hadn’t had a chance to dance all weekend, and I had so much energy built up that needed to go somewhere. Finally, I got to channel it into the mix, and I must say, it was probably the highest-energy set I’ve played this year?

My slot was sandwiched between trance fam Auratekh and Sybil, so it genuinely felt like playing with friends. The FM pub tent is the place to get a bit loose and dance, so for this one, I leaned into the more energetic side of prog and psy, revisiting a few 90s gems I hadn’t played in a while.” - TSUNIMAN 

we’re looking back at this year’s edition of field maneuvers for another live recording this week, this time from london-based, switzerland-born artist TSUNIMAN. gracefully imprinted in the local london scene, TSUNIMAN excels in worldbuilding, bridging together the old and new to create these narratives for her audience to get lost in. casting a spell on those who witness her sets, they tend to be filled with euphoria, spacey delights and lots of quiet moments for reflecting. in this set for FM, TSUNIMAN is in the fast lane, going full turbo mode. 

a fellow resident on london’s hub, netil radio, with the monthly Плазма (PLASMA) show where she invites guests to either go back-to-back with her or take over the full slot, most often platforming those who are emerging. her guests have included dj wiggles, rbi, celestial, neurotrancer, annx, dogheadsurigeri, and henderson to name a few. alongside this, she has guested on international radio stations such as kiosk radio, rinse fm and den anden side. her dj sets have seen her play at renowned spots across the world, including becoming a resident at klub verboten, as well as performances at refractor festival, unfold, ohm, the white holel, hutte in the forest, goodness, everybody trance and waterworks.
