It is transience's aim to create a temporary suspension of reality where listeners can recenter and reflect with a supportive sonic environment. During the current g3noc1de in G a z a and the surrounding areas, many of us are feeling massive amounts of grief, anger, and all manner of other emotions that it's hard to know what to do with. In Germany, and in particular in Berlin, we're witnessing new levels of state repression on freedom of movement and expression. It's really important during such times to take care to regulate ourselves and help care for one another, so that we can organise and continue the ongoing work of fighting for freedom. 

For this episode of transience we are glad to welcome  to have sound artist + designer, DJ and radio host, MINQ @soundslikeminq as this month's guest. transience host, Lou Drago met MINQ at the ambient floor at Whole Festival 2022, and soon bonded through their shared interests in sound-based mindfulness practices such as Deep Listening. MINQ has been facilitating workshops with the aim to discover what lies at the intersection of mindfulness, movement and sound in QTBIPoc-centered spaces with their research project and workshop series Sonic Utopias | Research Lab. They also have a monthly show on Refugee Worldwide called Sonic Utopias.

During the 11th International Drone Day we attempted once more to make a noise together that stretches around the globe, a sonic defiance of borders. Amidst such ongoing horror, i believe it’s so important to take moments to resource ourselves and get in touch with our subtle bodies, to offer love to ones cells. Drone has the transformative power to awaken tiny vibrations in our skin, between bones, and tickling the fascia.

t r a n s i e n c e is honoured to have a new generative composition from multi-instrumentalist, drone extraordinaire Olle Holmberg. The piece, Untitled (Consequence of Sound) employs a series of subharmonic sevenths creating a floating feeling somewhere between major and minor. This is a music for folding the past and future into the present. We’re also humbled to include some fragments from ‘The Jewel Maker, The Great Tantra on the Consequence of Sound’, which offer some ancient wisdom apt for these times.

The episode begins with a new piece from myself, a repurposed ending, kind of low-fi, cosy duvet embrace for melancholic moments for feeling held. Slow and minimal, i invite you to dive into the feathers and get lost in the folds.

For the 8th Drone Day, on the 29th May 2021, Transience invited a couple of past guests, Ligovskoï and Valentino Mora, and close comrade and drone aficionado, Paul Josef, to share the joy of droning. Transience host, Lou Drago, and guests Valentino Mora and Paul Josef all took the opportunity to play their first live sets on this occasion. The guests were already familiar with Transience’s aim of offering relief from neoliberal anxieties, and this desire is reflected in their musical outputs – on this night and in general. We hope you enjoy the journey through the four soundscapes and the story they collectively weave. The sets have been uploaded individually, but in the order they were presented on the night. This month we have invited @claradeasis to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these (and other) anxieties. Clara is a composer and performer of contemporary experimental music. She develops an approach to sound that highlights simplicity, non-intervention and active listening as means of music making. Her works display an extreme precision and intuitive openness that involves a dedicated attention to sound on its details and its most pure forms.

During this hour she takes us on a deep-blue murky journey through the depths of the ocean, confronting the grief and complexity that is held in a space inconceivably polluted and damaged by humans, yet also surfacing at moments to gaze at the light, beauty and wonder that will outlive us all. She has aptly named this mix sea dreams, and begins and ends with two tracks from her forthcoming album on Mappa, 'a veil, the sea'.

This episode of Transience is a rebroadcast from Intimate Connections, a special edition show on Cashmere Radio, that explores the relations between emotions and music. For this ,Transience host, Lou Drago invited friend and collaborator Ligovskoï to explore an emotional space that they have both been interested in, in their productions and Transience's target sound palette. Starting with our sun's frequency, 126,22 Hz, Lou Drago and Ligovskoï speculate about the effect of this specific vibration. Supposing a correlation between the life-giving energy of the sun and its frequency, the artists have created an hour's journey that subtly weaves through the interstices of emotional complexity, landing, hopefully, in a place that leaves the listener rejuvenated and uplifted.

For this episode of Transience we have invited research musician and composer, Demetrio Cecchitelli @cecchitellidemetrio, to create an hour of anxiety alleviating music. Demetrio is mainly active in the fields of ambient and electroacoustic music, with a focused interest for active and deep listening to his compositional approaches. Released worldwide on numerous record labels across Europe, United States/North America, Russia and Japan. He has the follwoing to say about the piece he created ~ While doing this mix for Transience I was wondering to rediscover hidden states of relief within the listening experiences I had in the last ten years. A will to recreate a soft and comfortable zone, where the listener can dive at its leisure, moved by gentle textures and profound/emotional harmonies.

For this episode of Transience we have invited expert improvisor and cosmic angel, Dan Nicholls to create a 90 minute journey to alleviate our physical realm anxieties. I've been following Dan's work for many years and am very happy that the stars finally align to host them live from the Cashmere Studio to begin the weekend's programmation. I love the way Dan is able to create such detailed sound worlds that invite us to meander about in them, sway like spores or lay gently nestled in their foliage. For this occassion we sat on the floor of the Cashmere Radio studio in the same space as the audience with a few cushions and Dan’s live setup. Having spent the previous night dancing we were super relaxed and ready to continue the adventure. We arrived at the studio with no real plan, wondering about how to start and what kind of sounds the set might begin with. Despite the not knowing, we both had total trust and a willingness to surrender to the moment.

Dan sees improvising as a way to bypass certain tendencies we might have to control and rationalise; to get in the way of the story or the energetic flow. A personal process of deconstructing, unravelling and healing – but more importantly an experience of playful sharing, creating sonic spaces that the listener can inhabit. The set features an improvised text by Dan’s child Liv, which touches on our origins in the cosmos and the vital need to listen to our bodies. This monologue is spoken in a dream-like imaginary voice, refracting some of the ideas that Liv has been exposed to and has intuitively felt. A different kind of truthful speech. So in a sense, it does with a child’s freedom and clarity of thought what this collection of improvised sounds and imaginary landscapes also hopes to do.

We invite you all to listen to your bodies and your hearts, and lay down to embark on this journey back to our stars.

For this episode of Transience we have invited multimedia artist, Synthtati, who finds their outputs through spatial installation, set design and video art, which is highly influenced by their ongoing passion and keen attention to sound. They are the founder of Moons, an ongoing event series at Kwia, that focuses on a range of experimental and ambient music, striving to accomodate a niche for more challenging sounds – engaging audiences in a process of active listening. About their contribution to Transience, they say: "This mix was born as a self-therapy response to an extended Berlin winter hibernation period. Layering through three decks combining both digital and analogue formats, the mix strives to combine a various palette of sound ranging from experimental, whispering and somewhat tense into to extremely soothing musical textures, craving for a notion of safe space."

For the 10th International Drone Day, we are very happy to share Transience's 50th contribution on Cashmere Radio. For this auspicious occassion we have invited Menou and Paul Josef to join host Lou Drago in the joy of droning. Lou begins the episode with a new work that takes elements of a recent work Still, and reimagines these components in a more narrative form to take listeners on a journey, Menou's hardware synth live set comes next, full of emotion and enthralling the listener before landing in a Japanese melodic ending. Paul Josef's serene modular synth live set closes the episode with gentle swelling harmonics that leave listeners with a warm embrace.

Known primarily for his hi-energy club sets, Konduku's atmospheric sounds and sense of focus seep into more ambient and experimental sets, where the pace and mood shifts, bringing us along for the ride. I'm honoured to have one such rare ambient excursion as this month's episode of transience. Welcome beloved listeners, tonight's episode is slightly different to usual.

This piece was recorded live at Whole Festival during the transience takeover which featured sets by incredible prismatic~entities: Fairy Queen of Elves; Titania otherwise known as Synthtati, The Butterfly~Sorceress, Sybil and a live set by the cosmic angel, Dan Nicolls under the caress of breezes. Nine winds carrying all the temptations, delights, and perils that come with such a field as bass throbbed on in the distance. Hence, this set is a liiiiiiittle more wild that Lou's usual transience selection, as they channelled what was needed for that particular brew of listeners, at that particular point on earth, a process in spontaneity revealed itself. An 'ego death' experiment in trusting the process, the habits and tools they have learned. They experimented with dissonance and the harmonic relief that can come when such dissonance is removed. The length of time one can stand a sound… and so on.

Lou offers this mix as a guide for others who would like to listen back and join their journey~wormhole.

For this episode of transience we are honoured to have sound artist and practioner, @sarahwreath 's live gong and electronic set, which uses a 110hz frequency to help with emotional processing and relaxation. About her contribution for transience she says the following;

"This is a version of my current ambient live set containing the pure tone of the 110hz frequency. This frequency – widely known as the fundamental pitch of the human voice used by ancient practitioners for mantra chanting – has been shown to help with emotional processing and relaxation, and has a profound effect on the right hemisphere of the brain. The right brain is known to be the seat of artistic expression, spirituality, emotion, imaginative thinking and breakthrough innovation. Research has shown that accessing and stimulating the right brain leads to better problem-solving skills and less conflict in people.

This live set was originally created to be performed together with a Chao Gong. The pulses and acoustic waves played promote a state of relaxation and a healthy nervous system."

We're delighted to share with you Synthtati's set recorded during the transience curated night at Whole Festival last year. During these three hours, Synthtati takes us on an incredible journey through moments of dubby, glitchy percussions into surreal atmospheres and more playful moments all emerging from a bi-directional drone setting a pschedellic mood for the rest of the night. 

Synthtati has the following to say about their set : 
This soundscape was manifested for the ambient stage opening, invoking memories of an ecstatic atmosphere in the woods under the stars, flamboyant queer people celebrating life on a hot July night.
I had 3 hours to envision a spectrum of sonic nuances: refined elegance of distorted rhythms, cinematic nostalgia, mysterious organics, musique concrète, spoken word, ASMR whispers, and intricate textures.
Initiating with the ethereal resonance of the Shepard's tone as a countdown point, this mix collages 3 musical channels complimenting one anoher simultaneously and merging into one sonic tapestry resonating with me deeply.

Embracing uncertainty, we learn to live in the grey zones. Accepting change, we learn to live with discomfort. The only way out is through, or so they say.

For this episode of t r a n s i e n c e we have invited Moons co-founder, musician and sound designer, Baron to create a sonic journey to take you elsewhere for an extended moment. From deep bassy rumblings, to giggles and groans, through darker frequencies to patient piano chords, Baron's sonic offering is rich with imagery and affect. Moody, evocative and at moments intense, rest assured Baron lands us gently at the end with some sweet, reassuring whispers. Released on a Capricorn full moon in July, this episode offers ample opportunity to dive deep into ones emotional landscape the music supporting introspection and a letting go of all which no longer serves us.

Baron has the following to say about the mix: "This sonic narrative came together inspired by an idea of expressing an intimate, unspeakable and ever felt melancholy about my own identities in an inspiring and empowering way.

Embracing this theme and its inherent mysterious energy. In a world where nothing is secure, the only constant we can rely on is change. Every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux, the law of impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal. It is only through accepting this change that we can find security. 
Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create a mix to offer relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can imagine alternate modes of existence that reject capitalist, patriarchal systems of oppression.

Saphileaum is one of the names of Georgian multi-media artist,
Andro Gogibedashvili. The moniker Saphileaum was born in 2015, highly inspired by esoteric, mystic, new age, cosmic and visionary art and teachings, which hold a huge role and are still a source of constant inspiration. Saphileaum’s sound is often described as cosmic,
spherical, light, visionary, innovative, tribal and hypnotic. 

Alongside producing music, Andro also runs the Theosophy label which is focused on spreading the essence of Theosophycal teachings and meditative ambient music in Tbilisi. He also runs his own small imprint based in Tbilisi, which he feels to be more than just a record label, it is a multi-media platform called Expeditions Above, focused on inspecting the inner and outer unexplored dimensions and realms.

Jin is a DJ and synthesizer performer who mixes elements of ambient and techno. Her performances focus on creating artistic abstraction through the use of experimental sounds and analogue noises, to provide audiences with a deeper perception of music.
