Prolific yet reclusive California producer Billy Bates aka Mr Saturday is known amongst his friends as a Rad Dad & a master of Digital Dub. Connoisseurs of the genre will know that for a brief period in the 1980s, drum machines & synthesizers dominated the Sound Systems & Beer Gardens of Jamaica, & for some Dub Heads, this illustrious era represents the missing link between King Tubby & Basic Channel. Squirrels On Film is delighted to present this collection of Bates' 21st Century Versions & Rhythms that take inspiration from that golden era of Machine Dub. Over ten tracks Bates explores a wide world of warm bouncy sub-bass & cold sharp drum machine rhythms, swimming in echoes & splashes of digital reverb. Junto a @andrew-weatherall formaba parte del dúo Asphodells, donde se dio a conocer rápidamente con trabajos de corte más lento. Influenciado por el sonido de la costa oeste holandesa, Timothy ha publicado en sellos como @pinkmanrecords, @knekelhuis o hoga-nord-rekords.

Sus últimas producciones han evolucionado hacia un sonido más rápido, pero manteniendo la esencia y eclecticismo que tanto le caracterizan. Recientemente ha estrenado @dungeon-module, su nuevo sello donde publicará próximamente nuevas referencias junto a otros artistas.

Locally grown talent is on deck for today as we welcome SPF 50 aka Stephan Kimbel Olso a fellow New Yorker and stalwart fixture of the scene. Through his residency at the Bob & Shirley party series, and running Professional Music, his sound and curation are always near. 

Today’s premiere of ‘Grove Map’ is a delightfully twisted affair, as undulating synths create an auditory wormhole surrounding the listener as soaring pads beckon and beckon forth, welcoming listeners to another world. Or as the label states, ‘named after The Grove, a stage deep in the woods at New York's Sustain-Release festival, where portals have long been known to be opened.’

Grove Map, and in turn the rest of the ‘Social Life’ EP will be released on March 17th by Bliss Point, a local label, no stranger to Delayed, whom we’re always listening to closely for forward thinking releases.
