If you live in The Netherlands you might already know the Wavefiles crew from their events in Club UP (Amsterdam). Over the past few years they have booked artists like Lunice, SAMIYAM and NGUZUNGUZU and to many more to mention. In 2013 they won the award for best party at “Wie is AAN 2013”. Now they are bringing Wavefiles to a next level with their first release on Basserk Records.

Casino Times debut on Futureboogie after a handful of stellar releases, most notably for London based Needwant Recordings, and Wolf Music. The duo of Nicolas Church and Joseph Spencer show us just why they’re steadily building a reputation for themselves with this four tracker.

Opening up with ‘Used To Be’, the smooth production and absorbing electronics deliver a classy, late night floor filler. With all the depth of, say, a classic Carl Craig joint, and deft melodic touches rippling through its duration, it’s a sound that’s prevelant throughout the rest of the EP. The jazzy overtones on ‘Turn A Blind Eye’ reveal a real musicality and sophistication, normally reserved for stallwarts of the scene like Larry Heard, yet Casino Times produce house music with plenty of head space and dubbed out moments.

Tempos are ramped up on ‘Weathered Walls’, as is the distortion, as rolling snares and urgent piano stabs pair against a raw and minimal beat, the enveloping pads bringing warmth if abundance to this warehouse gem. Wrapping up this very impressive EP is ‘Still’, a masterful arrangement of woody percussion, wandering keys and dubby FX, coming over like a long lost Nu Groove record for the next generation.

On the strength of ‘Lower Level Sounds’, we expect to hear a lot more from Casino Times over the coming year.

Eddy & Dus are long standing and highly respected Croatian DJ and
production duo Eddy Ramich and Zvonimir Dusper.  They’ve been
responsible for many classic remixes on labels such as Compost,
Especial and Schema but after a long hiatus we’re happy to say the
boys are back, on their best form yet and now we can present to you
the mighty A From B.
In its original form A From B is some kind of mutant afro techno
deep house jam that could probably only ever be conjured up in
Zagreb.  It’s almost as if all those incredible festivals that
dominate the Croatian coastline every summer have spawned their own
new genre of house music where tropical beats clash with classic
techno and blunted jazz sits right alongside the deepest disco.
A From B could be seen as something of a flag-bearer of this genre-
bending antics, evoking images of packed dancefloors dancing under
the starry skies in the warm night air.  Or something.
Who better to take on the remix than one of the masters of true
deep and soulful house, Osunlade himself. Knowing a thing or two
about delivering legendary DJ sets at Dalmation festivals his
Yoruba Soul Remix drips with the kind of musicality and integrity
that many can only aspire to.
Finally we have a brilliant dub version of the original, going
heavy on the beats, keeping things tribal and hypnotic for those
heavier moments when all you want is to get locked into the groove.

Smart and subtle programming from Takuya Matsumoto. The synths shimmer over the crunchy drum pattern, and a graceful female vocal adds a faintly melancholic human touch. It may not be an archetypal floorfiller, its exquisite melody means it can be poignantly received at both the start and end of the night.

Australian surf buddy Jad & The (Ladyboy) is back on the German Toy Tonics label where he started his career 3 years ago. Jad currently moved to Berlin, where he isn’t distracted from too much sun and good waves. Seems that he spent a lot of time in the his new studio: Besides this new Toy Tonics EP he has new releases on Mike Simonetti's 2MR label, Sonar Kollektiv and Centre Source Records (part of Lobster Theremin's cohort).

But this one for Toy Tonics is really a killer. 
4 smooth tracks. Clever constructed, with a heavy DIY vibe, but musically on the highest level.
Stylewise: somewhere between the easy moods of DJ Alfredo, the early Nuphonic records and the soulful vibe that you can hear on many new little labels currently. On point.

Heralding a new phase in his artistic life, Glaswegian producer Vince Watson introduces his new alias ‘Quart’ with the cinematic masterpiece ’Life Is Beautiful’.
Vince has laid a trail of musical breadcrumbs leading to the ‘Quart’ sound throughout his 20 year musical career; sublime, peaceful and melodic moments which shone out, even amongst his impressive dance music productions. Tracks like ‘Solitude’, ‘Never Too Late’, ’Every Soul Needs A Guide’ and his ‘Serene LP’ all hinted at an ethereal alter-ego behind Watson, but ‘Life Is Beautiful’ sees Quart emerge from the shadows to stand alone for the first time.
Quart takes its name from ‘The Watson Quartet’, which as Vince explains “was me playing everything anyway, so it’s now simply been reduced to Quart”. This explanation perfectly reflects the project’s musical aesthetic; Vince has clearly been through a creative process of reduction and distillation to reach the uncluttered calm of ‘Life Is Beautiful’.
“The influences for Quart are coming from classical, jazz and broken beat; I’ve naturally just evolved some of the music I was making as Vince Watson into something a little bit purer. This is something i’ve been wanting to do for a long time.”
At times displaying shades of Ludovico Einaudi, at others showing flashes of 4Hero, Vince’s free-flowing piano playing and natural ear for melody stand out throughout ‘Life Is Beautiful’, while fans of his house and techno output will be pleased to find Vince Watson’s unique sonic fingerprints all over the album.

Inspired by the birth of his daughter Winni in 2016, Vince describes the album as “a celebration of life, my most accomplished album technically to date and a beautiful way for Winni to reflect on her Dad’s achievements one day.”

Quart - Never Say Goodbye

Conclave is a coming together.
Conclave is con clave, a unifying rhythm that is the key to unlock dances ancient and contemporary.
Conclave is Cesar Toribio and Scott Scribner, multi-instrumentalists whose alchemy is evident in the ebb and flow of their compositions, paradoxes of the delicate and powerful inextricably woven around the rhythm.

After a dozen live shows over the past couple years, the Brooklyn-based group take their first steps on vinyl with an impassioned cover of the soul standard “Sunny,” a song whose Latin Disco pedigree makes it the perfect canvas for the Dominican+New Yorker collaborators. An ethereal gospel choir lifts Toribio’s heartfelt vocals over twining guitar and keys that gradually build and eventually bubble over to ride a churning bass line into the heavens — Paradise, in this case, being a funked-up extended instrumental jam on the groove.

Seven Davis Jr. joins the circle for a flip side remix that is nothing short of stunning. Languidly paced, the sparse mix gradually grows in intensity with an unforced charm that lends a startling drama to the entrance of the rippling bassline a full three minutes in. When the keys finally arrive like a burst of light thru the clouds, the door to the dance has been fully thrown open and the listener’s transformation from bystander to part of the conclave is complete.

The release of “Sunny” is rounded out with an acapella, available on vinyl and digital, an enticement for future collaborators, perhaps. Conclave’s debut album will touch down summer 2020, but this Most Excellent 12-inch is certain to hold you over till then, and beyond.

Following the release of ‘Happy Song’, the first single from forthcoming album ‘Break The Wall’, MF Robots reveal the full extended version of the song alongside remixes from Kenny Dope, Kaidi Tatham and Daz-I-Kue.

It’s only right that Kenny Dope should be the first producer to remix Jan Kincaid and Dawn Joseph’s new MF Robots project, considering the trio’s shared musical history. Kenny Dope began reworking Jan’s ‘Brand New Heavies’ material back in the early 90’s as one half of Masters At Work, helping the band reach club-land over and over again with a series of iconic remixes, recorded during the golden era of MAW’s output.

It’s no surprise then that there’s more than a hint of that special, Latin sunshine-infused mid-90’s House sound in Kenny’s rework of Happy Song, which showcases Dawn’s impeccable vocals over an infectious rhythm track and ultra-funky horn stabs. An instrumental version of Kenny’s mix is also included for the House purists, as well as the full, extended original version of Happy Song, packed with tight musicianship and more than its fair share of great grooves.

Pioneers of the UK Broken Beat movement and contributors to its most emblematic group, Bugz In The Attic, it seems almost inconceivable that Kaidi Tatham & Daz-I-Kue have never actually worked on a remix together before. As strange as it may sound, it’s true, and their powerhouse rework of ‘Happy Song’ is most definitely worth the wait.

About MF Robots:

Meeting in 2013 while recording and performing with one of the UK’s most commercially successful Acid Jazz bands, legendary UK drummer Jan Kincaid and vocalist Dawn Joseph discovered immediate musical chemistry and began writing songs together right away. They soon left the band to concentrate on their own work, starting MF Robots (Music For Robots) and releasing an eponymous debut in 2018. The album was so well received that the duo soon morphed into a band as they found themselves in-demand at venues and festivals all over Europe.

Forthcoming long player ‘Break The Wall’ represents a new benchmark for Jan and Dawn, reflecting the MF Robots project coalescing and maturing while fine-tuning their material, both on the road and in the studio.
