This source of creativity is beyond knowing and able to express the inexpressible. Being both intelligible and untranslatable. A universal language beyond words. The closest to experiencing the emotional state it expresses. Profound significance harmonically unfolding. Autotelic nature. Ancient Knowledge.

Trance came into being in the early 1990's after house bifurcated into mellow and hardcore styles. The early trance, that we fell in love with, was a very diverse collection of flavours and productions. The pioneering days where very experimental when synthesizers and samplers became less expensive and available to a lot of creative souls. 

This new genre, what we now call Classic Trance, was slower than contemporary 'supersaw' trance, often also darker and certainly less formatted, but always hypnotic, immersive, melodic with floating chords. The Golden Combination: repetitive synth phrases, lots of delay and reverb, beautiful chord pads or gated strings on top of  four-to-the-floor TR-909 'Rhythm Composer' beats. 

In Ancient Knowledge you can hear influence from some of the most creative and inspiring Sages of Trance like Oliver Lieb, Resistance D and Paul van Dyk.  

Trance is probably the oldest form of music, the combination of drumming, singing and dancing used in ritual ceremonies dating back to the cradle of humanity. Music is very much a defining characteristic of human beings. All children, intuitively start dancing when hearing music. Music is used in celebrations, funerals, religion, social gatherings, shamanic rituals, films, work, sports and leisure. It is so deeply embedded within us that we rarely stop to question "why is it so significant?" 

It is very striking that a lot of well-known philosophers, throughout the ages and different cultures, praise music as 'the highest form of art': Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Confucius, Chuang Tzu, Lao Tzu, Alan Watts, Susanne Langer and Susan Sontag, to name but few, all adored music.

Why would this be? Perhaps it is the closest thing to Reality we can create: music is an ineffable, harmonically whole, conveying our deepest emotions, ordered in time, with just enough sprinkles of surprising chaos to keep it interesting, and the only thing we can do is to enjoy it while it unfolds, to flow with the movement of change.

Ancient Knowledge

Awakened Beauty follows the rise of the lotus, emerging from the darkness, journeying towards the light. And finally breaking through the water surface and dancing around in pure joy. An enlightening and hypnotic track with a gentle flow to direct the gaze inward. From peak to plateau!

In Buddhism the Lotus flower signifies enlightenment or awakening. The plant grows from the muddy soil and emerges clean and radiating pure beauty. The muddy ground represents the human experience with all its difficulties and suffering. To transcend the mud, rise to the surface and flourish with stunning clearness is what awakening is all about. 

But the symbolism of the Lotus as a sign of purity predates the Buddha and thus it is not just a Buddhist symbol. It represents the mystical state that made Gautama the Buddha. Throughout history and modern times there have been many sages and 'ordinary' people who entered this state either spontaneously or after many different kinds of practice.

The interesting thing is that we tend to think of the mystical state as some kind of unattainable state that only 'the special one's' might attain after many years or, some belief, lifetimes. But there are some commonalities that point to a whole other realization. 

The realization that you are part of the whole, all that is happening right now. The Universal Unfolding. It is the spontaneous, merged state of being that cannot be attained by force or deliberate action. There is nothing 'you' can 'do' to 'achieve' it.

Awakened Beauty

Elixir of Life is an illusive and emerging track full of longing strings and hopeful, evolving synths. Gradually the ingredients of the Elixir blend together and start to inoculate its brew with the magic of music. Immersive and direct, the Elixir of Life insists that life, as music, is for experiencing. To live for the sake of living, no other purpose. To just be. Just to experience.

Throughout the human history the Alchemists were on a quest to find The Elixir of Life, the magical potion that would grant the drinker eternal life and/or eternal youth, and would also cure all diseases. A mighty goal indeed. And even though thousands of years of experimentation with all kinds of substances, which did not work, and often than not, greatly shortened the life of the drinker by slowly poisoning them. Although the magical potion was never found, we learned a lot in the process. The general rule of life: you live and learn. And by finding what did not work, you get a tiny bit closer to what will work. The lessons learned are the reward.

Why is it so difficult to accept the progressive stages of life gracefully and see that each has their beauty and difficulties? Why is it so difficult to accept the inevitable? 

The Elixir of Life, or Elixirs, as we see it cannot be bought. They are the things that you do and not do. They are freely available to all and do not require large sums of money to be handed over to some of the most greedy exploiters of fear imaginable. You are the Elixir and only you can determine what works for you. You are responsible for your health and how you feel.

Elixir Of Life

Arcana is another trance-inducing, hypnotic and melodic release that was created using the Secret Transnoia Formula! Featuring a rolling bass that morphs into a captivating melody, evolving in a harmonious environment of spacious pads and floaty, hypnotic synths. 

Arcana is esoteric or secret knowledge that is only revealed to the initiated, often about the mysteries of physical and spiritual worlds. Throughout history this secret knowledge has been a big part of religious groups, sects, alchemists, and other secluded parts of society. Some notable examples would be the Hellenistic Eleusinian Mysteries and the Vedic drink Soma, of which it is still unknown what it contained. Some of the most famous Arcana seem to be centered around the ritual use of psychedelics.

Herbs, dancing, chanting, meditation, holotropic breath-work, fungi, fasting, sensory deprivation, heat and cold exposure, exercise, mild poison exposure, solitude, there is an endless and diverse list of activities and substances to alter consciousness. 

What all these experiences have in common is that they have a powerful effect of dissolving the sense of self and thus uniting with reality. Turning a sense of isolation into integration. Arcanic techniques always invoke a deeply meaningful realization that is not explainable with words. All mystics, among them many enlightened people, prophets, philosophers, saints and shaman's have realized that there is much more to life than we ordinarily perceive, and that we are ultimately one with mystery of reality.

Arcana

Shimmering Light is a introvert and reserved track freely flowing from dawn to dusk. Progressing gently with big shimmering pads to symbolizing the nature of light during the magical the transformation from dark to light, subtly coloring in the world with the a vibrant spectrum of color. A picked guitar melody represents the timeless quality that this most important day of our lives will commence. With the assurance that it is going to be a good day. A beautiful, ascending synth melody keeps the day happening and evolving, it represent the hopeful quality that this new day serves. To bring the cycle to a close, slowly the darkness casts its shadows longer and longer, slowly overpowering the brightness with its dark undertones. Until tomorrow when the whole spectacle will happen again, the Shimmering Light will return and conquer once again, revealing the pure beauty once more.

The Spring of Day:
Early morning, just before dawn, is always a special moment. Birds start singing their eloquent songs improvising the soundtrack to an awakening world.

When the sun climbs above the horizon it blazes forth with its mighty power, beaming with delight. Bathing all in its radiant rays of warm delight. Illuminating the day without hesitation the darkness had no chance!

The Autumn of Day:
The other special moment is the autumn of the day. When the sun sinks towards the edge of the world, it grows ever larger and its light becomes more orange and warm, the final pièce de résistance. This is a perfect time to go to the beach or beautiful vantage point and behold the departure with your loved ones. Saying goodbye to a faithful, nurturing friend, whom you will soon see again. It is the final transformation ending the day, slowly giving reign to the dark shadow of the Earth, dulling the colors and, eventually, making them disappear. May we soon be reunited, Shimmering Light!

Not only can you see the infinity of the Universe, the beauty of the Milky Way and the stars, sometimes, in higher and lower latitude locations, there is an even more impressing spectacle to behold, the awe-inspiring Aurora's.

Spirits of the Sky is as ethereal as the most enchanting light shows nature has to offer, the Aurora's which where the inspiration for this track. Ephemeral voices softly are calling you like the swirling tapestry of light that dynamically paints the infinite darkness of the sky with the most beautiful, subtle colors. Few people get to see the Aurora's, and, unfortunately, and increasing amount of people have never seen the Milky Way and the countless stars in the night sky because of light pollution. Most people live in cities and see only a few stars between lots of buildings. This truly is a shame, because it would be very healthy for all of us to behold the incredible amount of stars softly beaming their powerful rays from unimaginable distances. This enormous scale, and thus the realization that we are just an incredibly tiny and maybe even insignificant part of the Universe dawns on us, offering us some well-needed balance.

The precious connection with night sky is only recently lost, and we've still come to realize how grand the consequences are. The norm for so long was to gather around a fire with the people we care about, and join in storytelling, singing and dancing under the star-filled sky. The stars where incredibly important for all of our ancestors, to predict the future and navigate the world. The compulsive need for pleasure, buying and distraction are good indicators that you have gone off course. It doesn't matter how well you are doing in the eyes of your peers or society. Deep in your heart you know you have something infinitely more important to do. It is the thing that is scary and you have to dive recklessly into the Unknown. The only free will that you have, is to deviate from its course by blindly following you egotistical desires. Trying to become who others think you should be instead of, unapologetically being who really are. The more you surrender your agency, your mistaken belief of free will, you will start to flourish as you smoothly Return to Destiny.

This track is a typical Return to Destiny for us, long a go in the late nineties the seed for this track was laid. Those trailblazers who made beautiful, warm and friendly trance that was a combination of deep, hypnotic synths, with big sweeping pads and driving beats. It was the perfect time for it creation and catered for happy, positive people who wanted to come together and dance all night long. Thankfully times come back and this genre is needed more than ever. We need connection, we need friendliness, we need positive, harmonic and upbeat music to energize and heal. With Spring Flower Transnoia honours the return of the light and warmth of the season of flourishing. A hypnotic track that unfolds like the tiny, delicate flower journeying from the Earth reaching for the sky growing stronger, progressing towards the revelation of its innate essence, the beautiful expression of nature that is Spring Flower.

Spring is the time of flourishing. The return of the light and warmth that regenerates nature and all within it.

After the winter the green colour of life arise from the Earth once more, for another cycle of growth. The bird song's start to return and swells into the most beautiful dawn chorus. As branches reach for the sun, they start to unfold their solar panels soaking up the increasingly powerful, life-giving rays of the Sun. New life start to unfold its wings and venture out of the cave of winter to, once again, explore the vast beauty of nature that is all around. Tiny buds start to form and grow, the process of expressing its innate beauty, the unfolding flower. In a couple of weeks, after a long slumber, nature wakes up, spring propels the entirety of nature towards its zenith as the whole world turns lush and green sprinkled with the most gorgeous compositions of vivid colours. There is the renewal of energy as the days grow longer and the gentle warm breeze invites us to return to a life outside. As the young ones take their first steps, unsteady on their feet, flapping their wings with excitement in anticipation of leaving the nest, taking off, first flight.

Because of its transformation, spring is the best time of year to make changes, to harvest its unlimited power. To move with its force, we too can transform our lives for the better. Just as the seeds are small, nurtured by water and warmth, they can take hold and slowly, but surely, start to grow into a strong and powerful new ways.

In the end, every track springs out of nothing into existence. This initial source of creativity is the seed, which with lots of time, attention and love, which is the spring, can start to grow . It might have tremendous potential which needs to be brought out and so some of these seeds will grow into fully fledged tracks that we can share with you. These are our expressions of love, rhythm and harmony that we offer the world. Our contribution, our giving, to make the world a little more beautiful for us being here. Emptiness of the Void

After a short period of silence, Transnoia is back with another evolving Trance track featuring lots of big floaty strings, tasteful piano chords and a very catchy and beautiful piano melody. 

Silence is not a luxury. Silence is fundamental for all sound arises from silence and returns to silence in each moment.

When born into a noisy world it is all to easy to believe that this is normal and does not have detrimental consequences. Noise is by no means harmless.

Noise pollution can cause all kinds of physical health problems and psychological effects. It can disrupt sleep and behavioral patterns. In addition, noise pollution can affect people's ability to focus, leading to low performance over time.

Perhaps even more problematic is that it is also preventing deep insights. To focus we must block out noise and auditive distractions around us, and there is a large group of people that are not very good at this. When constantly distracted with noise from outside, and the chaos of thoughts inside, it blocks out the important signals, especially the subtlest and barely noticeable. The sad thing is that these are the most profound. It is all but impossible to hear the subtle teachings that can only be heard in silence.

Nature is the ultimate place to return to silence and allow the space for deep insight. The tree is rooted in Earth and stretches out to touch the sky. It is the bridge between Heaven and Earth.

Silence is fundamental, after that which comes closest is music that has the magical quality of being able to completely absorb you, to let you disappear. That is why music has been so instrumental in the evolution of humans. To create music, to play together, sing together, to dance together is what it means to be human. It is to cooperate, to synchronise and harmonise, to become one with those around you. Ultimately, there is unity in harmony.

Silent Insight (Edit)

Gale force winds where blowing over the dune city of The Hague. With one half of Transnoia otherwise occupied, the other member was left alone with a substantial amount of synthesizers. With natures power roaring outside, an intimate, warm composition was taking shape in the Transnoia Studio.  Quite Solitude came into being, with a gently rolling  bassline, waves of evolving synths and beautiful pads.

Quiet Solitude

A powerful bass-driven track with spacious pads and an elegant piano melody, transporting you to the plane of eternity that lies beyond time. 

The track commences with a powerful bass pedal point, strongly propelling forward. A pluck repeating and bouncing in space, enhancing the thrust of take-off, giving a strong foundation on which ethereal pads float with a timeless ease. 
A beautiful piano gets introduced, adding to the contrast. Light and delicate, moving with cease. Up and down, free and tender. Heavenly order, dissolving all in a pleasant harmonious manner. Focusing the mind on the here-and-now, the everlasting present of being. 
Eternity is Beyond Time.      

Funny thing, time. It is so familiar and fundamental in our lives, yet we don't know what it is, or if it even exists. There seems to be an arrow of time, moving from past to future. And what we call present is that thin slice wedged between the two. Yet all our lives, and everything that happens, plays out during this tiny fragment. 

For musicians time is equally important and fundamental for all rhythm is division in time. Time signatures, are divisions in time. Beats per minute or tempo are division time. Duration is a period of time. Even harmony and timbre are functions of different qualities of sound waves in time and space. The frequencies you hear in the room you are in, color the sound because of their different behavior in that space. 

Time and space are so intimately interwoven, that they are one entity as a very well-known scientist has so beautifully shown.

The remarkable thing with music is that, despite its profound orderly structure (especially the kind we make), it is the most powerful method to make time disappear. A structure of, and in time, that dissolves its own foundation, and by this liberates itself. Perhaps that is why music is so powerful. Being beyond time and thus eternal.

Time remains illusive. An integral dimension of our lives, yet one of its the greatest mysteries. Perhaps because we confuse time with eternity. Time is our limited, divisive conceptualization of eternity. The present is all there is, was and will be. Since the beginning of time, being ever present, the whole. The Big Bang 'has happened' now, all future 'will happen' now. This is eternity, everything that is now, beyond time, beyond division.
