this is a messy and super rushed recording of a deftones cover that my friend (zain) and i (vide) played together back in high school. 

we played in sync when we rehearsed it, but not so much when we were recording. somehow it seems to feel right, but maybe that's just the nostalgia~♡

'be quiet and drive (far away)' by deftones is a very important song to us. it felt representational of a beautiful, decade-old dream shared between us: 

that one day, we'd make it through our teenage years and zain would get his own car for the sole purpose of driving far away from everything we know. 

he'd come over and pick me up, then we'd just play that song and drive wherever. we'd just keep on going, and we'd never look back. 

our true destination would be the journey itself. our point A was our lives as they were back then, and point B doesn't exist. that limbo between A and B is right where we wanted to be. 

that song would be playing through the speaker on full volume, with the wind dancing through our hair. we imagined ourselves smiling, our friendship everlasting. 

we didn't get to see that dream make it's way into reality, but even just the memory of having that feels close enough to it; like we somehow made it there just by holding onto it

if you don't want to dream because you're scared of losing hope if it doesn't come true, please know that they don't always have to actually happen to come true, in a way.

sometimes just holding onto that nostalgic memory of having shared such beautiful dreams can feel just as amazing. i know this may sound cheesy, but to cherish your friends,

be sure to give many thanks to that crumpled lump of grey matter for firing those neurons every now and then, and providing you with some oxytocin as a little thanks to you (in lieu of a hug) for sharing with it, your memories and special dreams. 

i wonder if we can build a language for our dreams, to share them in bigger ways. i don't know, maybe zain and i will find a way to translate what our old dream means to us now into a short transmission of sound waves to any ears willing to listen.
