When I was 11 our family dog bit my 1-year-old brother’s face. My Dad responded with extreme violence. To make it worse, he called me outside to help dispose her body.

I was 11 but knew it was time to be a man. I put on gloves, opened the side door, and found her body. Listen to this musical novel to see vivid scenes of that horrific day. 

WHY I WROTE THIS 
Therapy helped me find a way to heal from Star’s death. I had to experience all of these memories in 2 ways. First I was taught how to remain calm and compassionate while I revisited the memory and saw exactly what that day was like for me. I captured its brutality and felt validated. Second, I revisited the memory and made it go different this time. I showed my younger self life is no longer the same. Therapy assisted me big time and I feel so much better today. 

I even showed my Dad these songs eventually and he owned up to everything. He signed me his life rights and encouraged me to tell my story. Our relationship today is the one I always dreamt of.

It was the worst day of my eleven year old life but at least he was letting me bury her. Sure it couldn’t be in our yard, but a random grave was better than no grave. He was driving heavily intoxicated and I was praying no cops passed us. It wasn’t the ending I expected and it hurt. Writing and recording this song allowed me to finally feel the pain of that day. Healing is possible!

She was dead. We had no appetite. And he forced us to sit down for a family dinner. No one was hungry but we all ate. He gave us no choice. I wrote this song to consider my sisters point of view. That night I told her, “eat yo steak!” Because I feared what my father would do if she wasn’t compliant. I’ve apologized and she’s forgiven me. This song is a big piece of our journey.

In 4th grade I got a bad grade on my Report Card. My Dad reacted by introducing me to DEATH. Scariest day of my childhood. I know many of us were traumatized by the way our parents responded to our report cards. Crazy how much this letters are worth. 

Writing this song allowed me to cry tears that had been locked away for years. It still chokes me up and offers a release. Thanks for witnessing what happened to me.

I showed my Dad my music and he took accountability for all the traumatic things he did. Our relationship is so much HEALTHIER than it was in my childhood. I forgive him and he's a great Grandpa to my 3 kids. I'm GRATEFUL

“childhood OCD” is a freestyle about MY childhood OCD, and how I overcame it. Many of us have OCD symptoms in childhood.

As a kid, I was afraid to step on cracks in the sidewalk — afraid my mom would get hurt if I did. I didn’t know it then, but that was OCD mixed with trauma from growing up in chaos. This song is about how God met me in that fear and helped me overcome it — how faith turned superstition into freedom.

It’s also about breaking generational patterns — about how my father’s anger once filled me with terror, but now, through healing and accountability, that story’s been rewritten.

This is for everyone who’s learning to step forward and believe that love can transform what once felt unbreakable.
