It's finally feeling like summer so I'm releasing my remix of this classic dance tune by Calvin Harris!

I remember vividly when this song came out back in Spring of 2009. I was in my 3rd year of college at UCSB, my friends and I were blasting this constantly. I was in Greece that summer and it was everywhere.

Calvin Harris released a remastered version with some remixes in 2019 but I wanted something more high energy and modernized to play in clubs so I made a remix of my own and I'm so happy to finally release it! As always, grab a free download with a follow.

This record is a result of a very conflicting time for me. One where I was questioning everything, every relationship, every decision, every direction. It’s the outcome after having an existential crisis, which I think a lot of us can relate to now, at this time.

The beauty of this record is that everyone can infer, relate, and take away something entirely different from it. The vocals are intentionally simple, yet hugely metaphorical. Hope you love it!

I first wrote The Range about 2 years ago originally, and it has been through at least 4 different iterations. It started at 120bpm, but I ended up at 130. It felt better this way. The original song minus the vox was basically a full jam off my modular synth rig.

I love working this way when it works.

There is a lot of talk on social media these days about the importance of releasing music quickly, and not overthinking the production and/or mix. I understand where this sentiment comes from. We live in a fast-paced, algo-driven world. However, this song wouldn’t have been half of what it became if I had rushed it. That’s how I feel about most of my music.

Creating art is often an iterative process, and I fully embrace that. I simply do not see the point in putting anything out that I wouldn’t still be just as proud of 10-20 years later. Some songs happen quickly. Some songs happen slowly. This one happened slowly.

I don’t make the rules.
