Resonant Residence Series - Episode 6

Six years after delivering his debut album - a digital-only affair called TruSkool - Demuir has finally got round to recording a follow-up. The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish. Our picks of a pleasingly strong bunch include the fluid, disco-tinged, Hipnotic-sampling brilliance of 'Mind, Body & Soul Call Me', TUSH hook-up 'Skylar' (a superb slab of gospel-tinged soulful house) and the delicious Fred P collaboration 'Dream (Part II)'.

Miguel Migs opens up "The Sound Vault" and revisits a selection of his unreleased tracks and remixes. Just having a little fun with it and keeping the dance floor appeal in mind, while showcasing his love for those B side Dubs that have always been a source of his creative inspiration as a producer and DJ since the nineties era of House music.

The main ingredients highlight bumping bass grooves and dynamic drum and percussion layers, peppered with jazzy synth stabs and catchy melodies - topped off with sliced up vocal snippets and spacey atmospheric elements.

Next up on ZR is some pure old school piano house action with authentic jacking beats and stuttered vocals.

First up is the Joey Negro Chicago Tribute Mix which references back to several classic tracks complete with dubbed out David Cole style solos and fluttering handclaps.

City Soul Project provide a more straight up modern house track with a distinctly 90's flavour, while the JN Warehouse Mix strips things back and makes the most of the hypnotic elements.

Those who've road tested "Get In 2 The Music" confirm its a definite floor rocker.

We’ve all fallen back in love with vintage deep house and this compilation shows you why! 

Some of us might have gone so deep into the pacey rave sounds of recent times that we’ve forgotten the joy of a warm pad, soulful vocal or moody chord. Some of us might have even avoided certain parts of our record collection for being too slow, too mellow, not anthemic enough or for having to long of an arc. We know people like it hard and fast these days, but deep house has been making a solid return to the scene, with tastemakers from all over the world going back to their roots and giving the foundation of our sound a well-deserved dust off. So what better time no to dive into the vaults of Heist for our best deep house tracks? This vintage collection of 10 of the slickest tracks from our catalog features artists such as Byron the Aquarius, Crackazat, Kassian, Makèz and label Heads Dam Swindle, and will surely make any house lover’s heart go faster. 

Originally released on the quickly sold out ‘Keep on Swindling vol. 1’, ‘All I want’ has everything you’ll ever need in a house track. Catchy vocals, warm chords and a groove that just keeps on going. It’s one of Dam Swindle’s most summery tracks to date that blends the classic sound of the Rhodes piano with modern day electronics. Meanwhile, Marina Trench’ 2021 label debut ‘Sunrise’ has a kind of west-coast beachy breeziness to it; its lead melody drifting by over a relaxed groove. 

DJ Sneak goes even deeper with his loopy track ‘Love can make it happen’. Makèz’ recent hit with L.A. based vocalist Life on Planets is the most recent track on this compilation, but ‘Running from the noise’ just had to be part of this package with its deep soulful US house vibe. Cinthie, Kassian, Orlando Voorn Andy Hart & Byron the Aquarius all contribute to this package with their take on vintage deep house, exploring various levels of energy.  

This package is a testament of the position of Heist within the House scene as a go-to label and shows you that deep house might have been out of the spotlight for a while, but it’s back, stronger than ever.

It's been a long run for PIV frontman Prunk making this mini-album called "Journey". The release provides a fitting retrospective of some of his key highlights from the last 2 years. 

"Journey" is the perfect example of his interpretation of deep house and yet retaining that timeless and classic touch that the dutchman is known for. "Amor" is one of those tracks inspired by his relaxed soul and has summer written all over it. "Hotel Downtown" draws you into it's realm and pounds harder and deeper, while "New Mountain" has this dreamy touch to it and works on every dance floor. A track that guides you in a special way with total freedom and trust for which "Shepherd" is the shining result. "Studio 54" is a combination of yet smooth synth work with a stand-out trumpet to make this a very extraordinary take. Moving away from all of this the story behind "The Light" is a life experience that take you on this rotating journey inside Prunk's master mind.
