ABOUT TREES.LISTEN
Experience the resonance of trees through the Celtic lever harp. Trees are a fundamental part of human existence and survival on this planet. Trees.Listen, composed by Sharlene Wallace and Frank Horvat, is a musical storytelling experience that weaves the ancient past with modern sound design, offering a new way of "listening" to the planet.

Trees.Listen is an immersive sonic journey, inspired by the profound knowledge of acclaimed botanist and climate visionary Dr. Diana Beresford-Kroeger and her book, ‘To Speak for the Trees’. Dr. Beresford-Kroeger has a unique blending of experience in both Western scientific knowledge and traditional knowledge from the ancient world having been educated by her elders on the Brehon wisdoms of plants and nature. This music is rooted in letters from the ancient Celtic Ogham script, a medieval alphabet that named each letter for a tree. This is how important trees were to the ancient Celts. Trees.Listen has chosen a musical alphabet note, A B C D E F G or H (B), to be the predominant note heard in each piece, connecting the music to the tree inspiring the letter name.

Diana’s Bioplan is an ambitious plan encouraging people to develop a new relationship with nature and join together to replant the global forest. Everyone needs to plant one native tree per year for the next six years.
If we can globally plant 48 Billion Trees over the next 6 years we can reverse the effects of climate change.

About artist SHARLENE WALLACE

Canadian harpist and composer, Sharlene Wallace, is a musician flowing between and mingling Classical, folk and contemporary genres and performing, recording and teaching on both pedal and lever (Celtic) harps. Winner of two international competitions, Sharlene has toured and performed in festivals and concert series across North America and in Europe. 

About artist FRANK HORVAT

Canadian composer, Frank Horvat, is one of the most inventive songwriters to come out of the contemporary scene in Canada (WholeNote Magazine). Frank explores a wide array of themes in his music from love to the environment, mental health and social justice issues. Frank’s compositions tell deeply personal stories while permitting audiences to ponder their own.
