Tremulant (TREMULANT006)

The Seattle-based artist monotropa. returns to the Tremulant label to once again explore deep sensations and cosmic vibrations through musical expression. The Distancia EP executes this through three textural tracks that combine elements of house, techno, and ambient atmosphere. Remixes from El Mundo, Wesley Holmes, and Slow Shadow go even further into distant territory.

"Distancia" starts the EP with a floor-ready pulse, flowing with synthetic chord hits and arpeggiated gyrations over a steady four-on-the-floor ride. A cinematic breakdown envelopes the cut with shining melody and impulsive drama. This is followed by "Torrente" which utilizes tones resembling the gentle rings of a thumb-piano as its backbone. Buzzing synth bass, ominous drones, and flashes of percussion rise and fall with expansive depth. "Lavar" is more laid back though no less layered or spacious than anything else on Distancia. A processed guitar-like riff hypnotically riffs on top of chord pads and a mid-tempo house beat, all giving the feel of a transcendent moment on the way.

El Mundo (Quetame Records) supplies the first remix with a version of the title track It's a bouncy trip through exotic places and faraway fauna, where jungle sounds abound as a tribal rhythm carries the cut through strobe-lit valleys. Seattle house music veteran Wesley Holmes next tackles "Lavar," offering a decidedly west coast flavored take that's atmospheric, psychedelic, and perfect for afterhours dancefloors. The EP closes out with a rework of "Lavar" by Slow Shadow, a nom-de-plume of Tremulant's Joe Bellingham. It's an acid-tinged downtempo treatment, enhanced by a pair of distinctive vocal contributions. Vibes for days and days.

Lotech/Hijack - Overwhelmed [Crossfade Sounds]

South African producer @thorrixon is possibly best known for his experiments in live and electronic sound production, his inherent playfulness resulting in moments of wicked absurdity like 2015’s viral hit, 'Fuk Bread'. Since moving to the global mecca of hedonism - Berlin - Rixon’s productions, always drenched in rich sounds, textures, and peculiar tones, have grown more decadent (and more cheeky). This is perhaps most evident on his latest project, 'Nawti Baby'. The two-track EP sees Rixon join forces with his longtime partner Kitty Kat, who makes her dance music debut providing sultry vocals and lashings of attitude that perfectly complements Rixon’s propulsive and louche soundscapes. For PLAYY, Rixon presents a mix of music that locates his current creative output somewhere in the foggy annals of underground dance floors, filled with characters as colourful as they are dark, as sinful as they are mesmerising.

Ces 4 dernières années, ce sont 3 volumes One Night Stands et le dernier Golden Bug qui sont sortis, avec succès, des fourneaux La Belle. Cet automne, on a l’immense plaisir de revenir aux origines avec un explosif 5 titres, imaginé par l’un des plus intrigants producteurs espagnols, Azaria, en duo avec la chanteuse Vénézuelienne, créatrice des Ecstatic Dance, Andrea Lacoste.

L'objectif de ce disque de renaissance folk-ancestrale est toujours évident. L'EP s'ouvre avec Soleil, caractérisé par sa construction, son rythme décontracté et son vocal sensuel. Suivi par Jayeechi Wayúu chantée en wayuu - une langue indigène vénézuelienne d’une tribu appelée « guajiros » - qui combine un rythme house simple avec des percussions complexes et des influences superposées. A New Jam nous plonge davantage, avec un travail de batterie mélodique, et un spoken word servant de contrepoint au rythme animé en arrière-plan. Bright Mood nous propulse plus profondément dans les motifs tribaux avant la transe 2 titres en 1 d’Hexagrama qui vous hypnotise du long de ses 7 minutes 16 avec ses couches plus sombres, sur un beat implacable. Puis on rappuie sur play.
