Shades of orange bathe the streets in the neon glow of night. Under the artificial dome of the city, light from the dense urban landscape wraps itself against the overwhelming facades of towering habitats and server blocks, intermingling at the edges of imperceptible alleyways shrouded in darkness only broken by the flickering nocturnal emblems of deep night haunts of sleaze and virtual hedonism. The twins are at home here, every edge of the city mapped in their hybrid cerebellum, connected exquisitely with inter-dimensional technology stolen from the most intimate grasp of the AI governing the sprawl. Shattering the silence of the night with the abrasive roar of refined combustion and the precisely engineered mechanisms of their vehicles, the streets fly beneath them - acting as one, every corner taken with nothing to spare, utterly in the present - surgeons of the moment. The drones giving chase have no chance, unable to compensate for the perfectly calculated errors of humanity, every recalibration coming too late - THE CHASE is relentless and swift ... the immaculate pair vanish into the dense depths of the labyrinthine underworld with their haul of sonic artifacts.

Remarkable twin Russian production entity, Gancher & Ruin, follow up last year's induction to the label on Eatbrain's Mirror Universe LP with THE CHASE EP, delivering 4 powerful neurofunk weapons including a collaboration with label boss JADE in the form of gargantuan track JUMP! Known widely in the circles of the darkest drum and bass for their heavy sound, with this release the pair demonstrate a complex understanding of neurofunk, moving deftly between verdant sci-fi beauty and dense raw energy. Deep within the hegemonic core cluster, the brutal and deadly form of the ship Helion cruised with deadly intent across the gravity well of Arkana, the seat of the ruling elite. In its wake, the unraveling, doomed form of the defence moon Scarecrow tumbled across the planetary shore, untethered from its anchor of aeons – core breached and leaking into the vast cold vacuum. The crew stared out over the destruction, the horror of permanent nothingness at such a scale penetrating deep; millions of warriors erased out of existence by the ship’s darkmatter device in a moment with the tearing of the moon. On the surface of Arkana below, the effects were already being felt, with tidal waves towering over urban habitations, and the planetary plates starting to heave and twist in reaction to the forever-changed physics. The planetscape was contorting to a new form, its body now free from the pull of its closest moon, mindless to the destruction wrought upon the tiny beings and colonies that lay upon its surface. As death itself swept across the circumference of the orb, they observed from the safety of their superweapon high above… the planetary destroyer Helion, decades in the making and the last hope to free themselves from the tyranny of their brutal overlords - the violent breaker of their peoples’ chains.
 
Following their biggest year yet – with more than 30 live events worldwide, 14 EPs and 2 LPs in their wake - EATBRAIN enter 2017 with a powerful statement in the form of evolved entity SYNERGY (formerly Segment & Concept Vision, whose Mammoth EP was one of 2016’s most successful releases). The HELION EP delivers a heavy payload with 5 tracks of brutally refined neuro destruction from the onset, with title track HELION weaving between heavy rattling distortion and precise break insertions that evolve into an aggressively syncopated 2 step attack. MIZO: Black Mirror
When looking at Mizo as an artist and what he’s achieved over the start of his career, it’ll come as no shock that he’s a Russian producer. It seems that Russia has become a microcosm of the drum & bass genre and everything it represents; even from the countries furthest reaches, it’s delivered astounding talent, the type of which has been comparable to figures who’ve spent decades in the game. Mizo’s own output has only followed this trend.

With music on the likes of Eatbrain, Blackout, Dutty Audio and Kosen, he’s never once allowed himself to drop his impeccable production grades. His upcoming EP on Cause4Concern still doesn’t break these rules. 
Although this time, Mizo has again entered the world of Cause4Concern, a label who recently celebrated twenty years in the game and an imprint who’ve proven over the entirety of their lifespan that they’re able to keep up with the current musical climate. Mizo’s forthcoming ‘Black Mirror’ EP is a tribute to this – from ‘Animate’ through to ‘Gravity Fall’, it’s easy to see how Mizo came under the fearsome stretch of C4C.

‘Animate’ begins ‘Black Mirror’ with crackling bass switches and grooves which give the track its momentum as it gradually breaks down. ‘Shaman’ pulls you against its twisting synthesis and tribal-like atmospherics, which create a deeper soundscape to become emerged in. ‘The Pursuit’ features Trilo and as part of the collaboration both artists add their take on a merging of the subgenre’s murkier realms and a more dancefloor influenced edge. ‘Black Mirror’ is the EP’s title-track and it focuses heavily on its slamming drums, centralising the cut with each weighty drum pad. Then ‘Gravity Fall’ is the finishing number, rolling through with sweeping peaks and deep troughs of bass. It provides an exploration of Mizo’s capabilities, showcasing his ingenious strokes of production. Already boasting support from artists such as Noisia, Black Sun Empire, State of Mind, Rene LaVice and Ed Rush, Mizo is a force to be reckoned with. Returning to Cause4Concern, their vast audience is once again about to become enthralled in the music of Mizo.

Although the name Burr Oak is one which has only just started to become acquainted with the drum & bass genre, the faces behind the outfit have already made their mark over its last formative years. A new venture between The Clamps and Opsen (known for making up one part of the Signs project) their first release through the Trendkill platform sent shockwaves throughout the wider dance music scene. ‘Time Has Come’ and ‘Originate’ were selected by label owner and pivotal figure Prolix, setting a standard for the pair which they’ve followed with their forthcoming single. 

Burr Oak shown that they’re no strangers to high production standards and an enviable work rate. Just over a month from their first release, they have continued their expansion across the world of drum & bass through brand new tracks ‘Bannockburn’ and ‘Struggle’. These are two tracks which signify just how electric the pairing has proven to be, something which has translated into their music. The first of the two is ‘Bannockburn’, with an introduction alluding to just how explosive the drop is building up to become. You’re catapulted through a zipline of shaking subs and slamming drumbeats, with a bassline that drives straight through the tracks core. Both producers show their experience in the way they masterfully manipulate sounds and the result is chaotic, yet still streamlined in its composition. 

The second part of the forthcoming Trendkill single is ‘Struggle’, just as cutthroat as its forerunner, although its hooks cut deeper and deeper between every drum relay. ‘Struggle’ yet again demonstrates that Burr Oak aren’t afraid to go for the jugular and they do this with the utmost precision, something which shines through their expert craftmanship. Stabbing synths slice their way through the mix and before long you’re totally enveloped by the carnage. It’s another monumental step in the evolution of Burr Oak – something which Trendkill are nurturing, as they have done countless times with artists who are now dominating global stages.
