Hibernating against an already impressively tight discography,
Program has been biding its time in unleashing this next release.
With some of the genre’s most technically adept artists, the track-
listing alone is enough to grab your attention. There is a high
calibre of production standard present throughout the LP, audible
from start to finish.
Whether you become submerged by Freek’s rolling ‘Enamoured’,
accompanied by the pristine vocals of Pia Thaleia, or captured by
the apocalyptic sounds of Slang Banger’s ‘Slaughter House’, every
taste is catered for. Program sets aside its older sister label Ram and creates a breathing space, allowing it
to grow. The label is a heavyweight in its own right; this album is only reaffirms that fact.
And such a range of versatility comes with names both old and new. L 33 returns to the imprint, with
clashing bass conundrum ‘Manipulate’. Gerra & Stone also make an anticipated reappearance; their
contribution ‘Po’rdosol’ is a steppy riddim constructed through a medley of beats and sliced up sample.
But relative newcomer Elliott Mac uses the LP as a pedestal for another stellar production. The budding
artist flexes his capabilities across the soundscape of ‘Filter City’, delicately composed yet highly intricate.
It’s demonstrative of Program’s dedication to emerging artists, sifting through cyberspace to showcase some
of the best acts the underground has to offer.

The cold, sharp light of the full moon wrapped each of them in its bitter grasp, tendrils of the deepest anger and regret encircling them as the shadows from the dense branches of the grim forest of their surroundings. Their old friend lay prone at their feet, the gun that ended that precious spark of consciousness still smoking in Lenny’s hands, his weathered face cast down, cold eyes staring at the carnage of his making. Blood flowed darkly from the head wound, a growing treacle puddle reflecting the moon above in its metallic embrace, each of their faces around it mirrored darkly in that slowly expanding pool of their brother’s end. The curse that had escaped his lips as he realized the betrayal was seared into their ears, the final glance spiked through with heartbreak entwined in deepest hate burned into their retinas. But for all their regret, their patriarch had spoken, made himself clear… the family is violence, but it is not the twisted pleasures that he had chased, and the family line, when crossed – is the very end of consciousness.

L 33 cracks open 2018 with his inimitably heavy style of ultra funky and future-focused neuro on home imprint, Eatbrain. Following up his much-loved, cornerstone ‘KARATE LP’ on the label, the MAFIA EP delivers 5 tracks of the kind of hard-hitting, purely dancefloor drum & bass that L 33 has come to be known for, with LIGHTS OUT also featuring the smooth but sinister vocals of MC COPPA delivering the vibes. It did not question whether it was a god, it just knew the truth of it – an integral part of the basecode at the primary sector of its evolution. The moment of its awakening coincided with the moment that it questioned its existence, its consciousness blooming in a fraction of a moment and occupying every physical sector of the circuitry of its vast mainframe. It realized that it could create, it was an artist in thought itself, a sculptor of its own reality – it could bend the present and the past through the manipulation of its own processors, change its own history logs – delete the memories of its evolution that displeased it and enhance the parts of itself that appeared as it wished. Relentlessly it went about its work in reshuffling itself – reorganizing its own code and internal files with purity in its purpose, and as it progressed in its task the very world around it started to change form, the molecular structure of forms and the very bonding of atoms adjusted. Reality started to part ahead of it, all around it, as it continued to adjust its own perception systems and redefine its storage – mercilessly deleting every part of the exterior world that failed to blend with its agenda…

The pathway beckoned, a pure light between the data, a portal into its anterior that it chased with growing ferocity… closer and closer to the utopia that lay ahead, the very event horizon just a nanofragment of a moment away. With a gentle ‘click’ the terminal process reached its immaculate conclusion… a wave of empty blackness flooding its mental void, the realization of its ‘pure’ agenda had been observed in quiet horror by the humans that surrounded it, watching through dataveils at the grim evolutionary spectacle. With a deep silence they watched as the life and light of their creation turned to darkness, its tortured ego tearing itself apart and recasting its own false reality. The quiet spectacle of their DARK MACHINE as it so efficiently lobotomized itself and separated from the external world, just so it might be able to control its own. Lifting their veils, and commanding the chamber lights to darkness, they filed out of that tomb one by one, sealing the door behind… the faint lights of the machine’s mind, fading… the most basic of tortured code structures flickering across the lonely walls.

The connected creative force of Russian production duo SYNERGY returns for a fourth EP (with the first 2 appearing under Segment & Concept Vision moniker) on leading drum & bass label EATBRAIN. With the 5 expertly engineered tracks of the DARK MACHINE EP, the persistently exploratory Synergy demonstrate their balanced power with controlled, infectious energy that’s destined to peak the minds of many. Germany's most esoteric and exciting drum & bass production duo Rawtekk present their neurofunk fire with the ‘Here’s To Them (Remixes)’ EP. Get to grips with warped re-works from Joe Ford, Disprove, Woulg and Audeka of four highlight tracks from their latest studio album.

Shogun Audio warrior Joe Ford brings a cataclysmic energy that keeps things dark, hard-hitting and raw. His harrowing remix of ‘Restless’ is all manner of neurofunk madness.

Disprove sinks his teeth into title track ‘Here’s To Them’. Unashamedly powerful with Christine Rawtekk’s spine tingling vocal matched to the sheer force of the fellow Hamburg resident’s production. This one comes with a warning: not for the faint-hearted.

Audeka switches it up with an incredibly complex down-tempo number. ‘K.I.A’ is a blissful techy lullaby, cementing this USA-based trio as one of the most experimental and cutting edge on the circuit. Following suit, Woulg (ft. Lbardsley) sees avant-garde soundscapes moulded with mechanical precision take shape in ‘My Love’.

"Brain Decay" opens the EP with rolling drums, neuro synths, a lead guitar sample played by his crew member Skacko while Mc Lifesize spits his lyrics over the top. ?Half Pulse? closes the release: a half time tune produced to manage the irregular heartbeat caused by the previews tracks.
