For Spring / Summer 2021, Junior Executive has worked on a mini-collection with Swedish power trio, Studio Barnhus. Previous collaborator of both parties, Angela Judiyanto, has created a very modern tribute to a fabric pattern, featuring elements from the Junior Executive and Studio Barnhus galaxies.

Axel Boman, Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist of Studio Barnhus has recorded a spring friendly DJ-mix to soundtrack the collection.

Diversity, part 2 - Flute Cut

Here comes volume 5 of my "Modern Soul Bangers" selections. It's been a few weeks since I wanted to record this one & eventually found enough free time to put this one together. 

The selection is made of records I have been catching since I recorded previous volume, about one year ago. It ranges from slow & mid tempo stuffs to more dancers kind of tunes, it has a couple of AOR songs, a few gospel joints, early 80's boogie / modern soul things, two steps etc. Songs taken from all formats (7", 12" & LP cuts) - all from OG records. 

Really happy of the selection for this one as it contains some very rare cuts, as well as some classics.

The second release from the Ashanti Selah label featuring another track from the forthcoming album with Dan I Locks on a unique 12" style format release. The track featured in the sound clips comes across as a classic 'roots dance' riddim track, of which you'd most commonly hear through the Rastafari-influenced sound systems throughout the UK/Europe; like Aba Shanti-I, who can be seen running this tune as a pre-release at the University of Dub back in May 2017: https://youtu.be/7bArqQI7RCc.

The lyrics are provided by Swedish reggae artist, Dan I Locks, who is not a stranger to the producer Ashanti Selah, in which you can find a fair amount of titles of this combination. However, this song contains lyrics from another angle of which Rasta's take inspiration from, who is the prophet Marcus Garvey, in the respect of one knowing where they are coming from, which is from Garvey's very famous quote 'a tree without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots...'

Jamaican born veteran singer Robert Dallas reworks Barrington Levy's classic early 80s Dancehall anthem 'Prison Oval Rock' in fine style! This updated and adapted version utilises producer Richie Phoe's 'Roll Like Lion' rhythm track which originally featured Josie Wales (also released on Roots Garden records back in 2013).
Richie Phoe works his dubwise magic on the flip side for 'Cell Block Dub', stripping the rhythm back to it's bare bones as he captures Robert in his echo chamber!

This release was originally recorded and cut as an exclusive Roots Garden records 'dubplate special' back in 2014 after Robert Dallas dropped these lyrics freestyle over the mic at a Roots Garden sound system session held in Brighton (on the south coast ofEngland)...the crowd went crazy calling for the DJ to rewind the tune several times! This track has proved so popular at subsequent Roots Garden sessions that we have finally decided to make it available to everyone.
