Since folks asked, I quantified the pitch features of this puzzle. The piece has a standard sequence used in many other pop songs (some, but not all of them country). The rhythm and melodic contour is similar to other pieces. So, our brains want to hear a specific melody. This piece has the Magic Pitch Trifecta - (1) excessive vibrato, quarter tones, and (3) out of key. We can see this by analyzing the pitch. I'm including a screen capture of the analysis of the chorus from the acoustic guitar version. A producer may be inclined to "auto-tune" the vocal track. On first pass, reducing the vibrato and normalizing the pitch of the notes into a chromatic scale can help, but bringing the melody into western key (in this case a known country-western key) requires much more work. To demonstrate this, I removed the vibrato, constrained the notes to a chromatic scale and played those notes with a synthesized tonal percussion instrument. The percussion emphasises the extreme pitch changes (by changing notes).

Listen to just the chorus played 4 times. This should prime you to hear the melody as it was created (rather than as you expected). Then, listen to the entire song played with my marimba instrument. Interesting stuff!

True story: During the pandemic, the absence of human activity allowed for mice to move into the building. As mice do, they would squeeze under the doors. Weather stripping was added, which solve the mouse problem. But, it also created an air-tight hallway. Since July 2021, the door has whistled, mostly in Bb, but it would shift depending on the air flow (which of course changes with air conditioning level and outside temperature). This is a recording of one door.

What is Normal?

"Cluster 5" is an outbreak of a mutated variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which may lead to COVID-19. It was discovered in Northern Jutland, Denmark, and is believed to have been spread from minks to humans via mink farms. On 4 November 2020, it was announced that all minks in Denmark would be culled in order to prevent possible spread of this mutation, and that a lockdown and travel restrictions would be introduced in seven municipalities of Northern Jutland in order to prevent the mutation from spreading widely (which could compromise national or international responses to the COVID-19 pandemic).
