Over a year since the foundation-laying 'This Is How We Roll', a cluster of the Keysound family members return with a 14 track compilation of exclusive new tracks. It will be the 50th release on the label.

The CD is shaped in an arc designed to reflect both the breadth and the flow of the music being made within the camp. Beginning with Logos’ beatless exercise in tension 'Metropolis' it moves through dark percussive 130 bpm rollage from Parris, Dusk + Blackdown, Aphix, Caski and Etch. Grimey influences begin to emerge via Wen and the Sully remix of Balistiq Beats ft Riko, before an explosion of synths and colour from Murlo, DLVRY and E.m.m.a. engulf the scene. Finally the compilation curves back down into a more abstract plane with Facta, Epoch and emerging lyricist/producer Luke Benjamin.

The title for the compilation was crowd-sourced from the producers themselves, kicking around different suggestions until something was borrowed from a cluster of LHF-inspired blog posts Blackdown had written. The title was “something representative of the things that link us but also separate us” went the reasoning.

This spirit of how 'Certified Connections' was selected seemingly reflects the strength of solidarity and the unity of purpose around these artists right now: working within a darker (but sometimes colourful), rolling (but sometimes arresting) and bassier (but not without subtleties) space. "Keysound is home for me, and listening through the compilation the doors are wide open to welcome edgy new talent to the family," said Wen.

As well as contributing a track to 'Certified Connections', certain editions of the release will come with a special mixed version by one of the most exciting DJs from the camp and sometime Wen-collaborator, Parris, deploying his trademark blends and precision cuts. The release follows hot on the heels of Dusk + Blackdown’s recent vinyl doublepack of 130 based cuts 'Back 2 Go FWD>>', LV & Josh Idehen’s 'Islands' album and Moleskin’s 'Satis House' EP.

“Certified Connections” is released on the 24th of November.

"We Are What You Think We Are" is the tenth dispatch from the crew here at Lost Soul Enterprises, New York City, USA. This compilation features a whopping 15 artists who together represent all corners of the label's extended family, with frequent local collaborators paired with past guests of our various parties. It is served with love from us to you on 3 slabs of vinyl released in 3 installments.
  Each installment charts a different component of our sound: 10.1 highlights the influences of synthwave and postpunk electronics, 10.2 is comprised of razor-sharp acid and overdriven electro, and 10.3 delves into darker shades of industrial techno. Together, all of these elements loosely sketch our little corner of the sonic universe. With this humble offering we tried to capture and share with you a little sliver of what we've found together in hazy rooms full of flashing lights and strange sounds.

Premiere: Chinaski - Surfin' Dead [Bordello A Parigi]

Without a doubt one of the more influential imprints around, Youngsta’s Sentry Records is successfully keeping its eyes and ears for sound system music wide open. Established only a year ago, the imprint is already more than ready to serve its next immaculate bass music evocation, conjured on a colossal 12-inch. Following up on dBridge and Nomine’s respective heavyweights, the first-class roster welcomes one of New Zealand’s thriving artists to their ranks. Part of the Eyes Down Sound, Akcept has been shelling the world with his foundation sound through venerated imprints, such as AMAR, Moonshine Recordings or FKOF – and of course commendable support from veterans and bass music collectives around the world.

True to the core principles of sound system music, transporting the beloved ‘old school’ feel into the very present of the 21st century - ‘Dreader Than Dread’ envelops eerie spheres of ghastly dub sirens and warbled tape echoes, as the vocal chant jolts the arrangement into unwieldy sub emissions. Finally getting to be able to breathe again, promptly being thrown back into a percussive double-time sub ostinato of monstrous proportions. Gaining momentum in the process, the soundscape is smoothly complemented by a vintage & anthemic brass skank, leaving nothing to be desired - fiery through and through.

Having been sought after since its first appearance, ‘Howl’ is an earthquake-class Dubstep eruption - ‘massive’ is inscribed in its sonic nature. A badman chuckle reverberates within garbled tape noise, introducing the otherworldly impact of Akcept’s snares once more. Fiercely stepping forward, distorted bass oscillations pave the way. If it weren’t enough madness, the sheer amount of weight continues to intensify and escalate, as the track progresses - sure-fire rewind material. A true low frequency onslaught in every way - joining the créme de la créme of 2017’s illustrous musical output in soundsystem music.

As a producer, DJ & label owner Cosmin Nicolae’s dedication to developing a rich and wholly personal artistic landscape provides the driving force behind one of dance music’s most unique & industrious individuals.

Opening the door on Hessle Audio over a decade ago - an outlet that has gone on to become a defining voice within electronic music in the 21st Century, Nicolae’s list of affiliations reads like a who’s who of top tier contemporary dance music record labels. Appearances on Amsterdam’s Rush Hour and Gerd Janson’s Running Back, as well as a brace of singles alongside LP’s Gordian and Simulat on the now defunct 50 Weapons - not to mention work for Semantica and Bleep, have cemented Cosmin TRG deep in the psyche of the ever shifting amoeba that is the dance music zeitgeist.

In many ways, what lies at the heart of Nicolae’s work - beyond the extraordinary pairing of high end sound design and club functionality, is an innate ability to bind his discography - to create a streamlined sonic vision without compromise, one that moves with purpose and vigour outwards to explore in depth structures that exist on the very periphery of House & Techno, Ambient & experimental electronics - but maintain a unique and recognisable finish. Few artists could boast a discography that marries 2016’s ubiquitous In Your Body, an anthemic spoken- word-meets-Tool-Techno leviathan released via Nicolae’s own club-focused Sportiv outlet, with Semnal - a gloriously executed LP of shifting, otherworldly Experimental music delivered under the artist’s given name via the Opal Tapes label.

Cult concept missive Hope This Finds You Well, Nicolae’s 2019 reflection on corporate culture furthers this same dichotomy - a stunning wide-angle Ambient LP on Fizic - the label operated by the artist as a home to more conceptual iterations, that followed hot on the footsteps of a remix for Bpitch founder Ellen Alien & the fourth instalment on Sportiv - both offerings heady club constructions in their own right.

On the road, both DJ sets and live performances mirror this healthy sentiment - with Nicolae as comfortable on main stages showcasing his take on hyper-modern propulsive Techno, as he is presenting the low slung avant-garde preoccupations of his more leftfield alias’. There’s the constant feeling that both these practices feed back into one another, and that from each respective vantage point, Cosmin TRG is able to make the kind of dynamic & intuitive artistic decisions that few can - keeping his work fresh & current without concession - ceding to his own desire to further his vision as a creator of sonic abstraction without losing sight of the dance floor.
