As bottom end provider for Cinematic Orchestra and Paper Tiger, Hunrosa (AKA Sam Vicary) already has something of a pedigree for a man of such tender years. His music glides effortlessly between Bonobo at his most sonorous, Jon Hopkins at his most ethereal and Flying Lotus at his most freaky. Currently based in Manchester, his music captures the wild organic senses of his Cornish childhood, anchoring it with a darker 2am undercurrent. 

Following the success of ‘Ransom’ (a firm favourite of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft) Hunrosa returns with his newest offering ‘We Know’. An eerie, ethereal track full of haunting atmospheres, Vicary enlists Austrian percussion maestro Manu Delago, who lends his hang drum expertise to the proceedings weaving it amongst the twisting, intricate beats and Anna McLuckie’s delicate vocals. 

The original is accompanied by a white label 12” containing three reworkings from burgeoning producers Lavan, Etherwood and Danvers. Newcomer Lavan is up first, moulding the organic melodies and earthy percussion into a dubbed out, soulful and bouncy 4/4 number. 

Hospital Records golden boy Etherwood (whose band Hunrosa is also a member of) brings a late-night liquid DnB atmosphere into play, harnessing the raw emotional power of the lyrics, as reverberating piano chords strike out into the darkness. Having turned the heads of Bradley Zero and Gilles Peterson with his recent releases, CoOp and WotNot Music’s Danvers resets the atmosphere with a zen like extended intro, before launching headfirst into a hypnotic and enthralling looped rhythm section. The groove locked in place, it rises and falls with precision, joined by spaced-out synths throughout the nine-minute duration, allowing the majestic instrumentation to gather pace as the spine chilling vocals drift overhead.

Andy Skopes was an amazing talent and his time with us was tragically cut short when he passed away from cancer earlier this year. Andy had slowly been solidifying his reputation with a slew of releases on drum and bass heavyweights such as Metalheadz, V Recordings, Dispatch and Inperspective Records.

It is with great pride we bring you 'Where I'm From' featuring Goldfat's own Mr Porter who regularly MC'd with Andy at his Croydon residency, Spectrum. This track started life over 5 years ago as a free download on Soundcloud but Andy had always said he wanted to do a refix with some vocals from Mr Porter.

When Mr P heard the tracks brooding bassline and melancholy piano keys he decided the lyrics should reflect his and Andy's hometown, Croydon, hence 'Where I'm From'.

6 hypnotic minutes of rolling breaks, emotive pads and twist ing basslines that soar high taking the listener on an out of body experience, demonstrating Andy's raw talent and reminding us why he will be so missed by the scene.

With the blessing of Andy's family all profits will go directly to Cancer Research UK.

Although drum & bass evolved from existing only really on dancefloors and into living and lounge rooms long ago, quality listening music with longevity and dancefloor cabability at the same time is almost impossible to find.  Thankfully, there are a select few who still consider production a kraft, not commodity, and the making of music a passion that brings pleasure, not as werk. United by this ethos and a love for analogue electronic sounds, genuine artisans TRIAD spent 2012 ensconced in the studio further shaping the essence of the sonic visions they'd already shared with the world into one solid statement of intangible intent - an aural essay in long play format entitled UTOPIA.

Predominately denizens of the deeper end of drum & bass with a distinctive sound and audible pedigree in musical manipulation, Triad present Utopia as an open invitation into their world: a lush, alluring soundscape of warm bass, cosmic space, nuanced moods and articulate arrangements not actually limited to one genre. 

A three track vinyl sampler including Kiss Me, Kill Me (feat. MC Kemo), Out of Scale and the EastColors remix of the title track Utopia will come along with both CD and digital download versions of the album in full length. Unique to the download bundle will be a special ‘unplugged’ version of Aftermath (off The Essence EP) with all parts played live as opposed to samples.
