Sex Sells is discussing the daze women within the music industry have to hotbox themselves in to not only ignore the misogyny, misrepresentation and over sexualization that befalls us within industry. But those same features that apply to every male dominated career we walk into. 
Women work hard, we fight hard, we love hard, but society re works our mindset into thinking we're the weaker sex, or we need someones "approval" to be successful. 
All obviously not true, but this song stems from my experience within that "second class citizen" treatment within industry. 
Having worked construction, music and service jobs my entire working life this song was my jazzy rendition of a life long struggle I know others can relate to. Being a queer woman within industry is a lot to take on, which is why we gotta write a hell of a lot more tunes about it.
