Brina - Seeds of Freedom [2013]

Brina’s version of South African reggae legend Lucky Dube’s timeless song Guns And Roses featuring Toots Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals on guest vocals, and Sly Dunbar on Drums) is given the dub treatment by Dub Colossus’ Dubulah aka Nick Page. Dub Colossus are 2013 Songlines Music Award winners for best cross-cultural collaboration – so who better to remix Brina? In true dub style the track has been stripped down dubbed out, tweaked and expanded, with Dubulah even adding his own wicked lead guitar lines, and periodically doubling the relentless repetitive bass groove reggae guitar style, for reinforcement.

In an age of superlatives, the word legend is often overused. In the case of Toots Hibbert and Sly Dunbar however, living legends is wholly appropriate, and Brina feels blessed and humbled that these two Jamaican reggae ambassadors contributed to this track.
