Cera Alba returns to MadTech this June with the ’89 EP, comprising two original compositions, a dub interpretation and a remix from Montel.

Liam Jones, better known to most as Cera Alba has become a driving force for underground house and techno from the UK over the past few years with releases on Hot Creations, AVOTRE, Lost Records and of course Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint where he returns to here.

Kick starting the release is title cut ‘‘89’ which lays down a dark and brooding groove via weight percussion and bubbling dub stabs before gradually unfolding into a crescendo of bright piano chords and soul infused vocal lines. ‘Solitary Nights’ follows and retains the eerie aesthetic of the preceding record, laying the focus on menacing bass drones, tension building atmospherics and rumbling subs, while subtly evolving percussion and sporadic vocal licks ebb and flow throughout.

Montel steps in to remix ‘’89’ next, bringing shuffled rhythms, chugging bass swells and swirling delayed snippets from the original vocal and piano into the limelight to create a unique twist on the original number. A ‘Dub’ of ‘’89’ from Alba then shapes up the package.

Fresh from a packed summer of Ibizan parties Darius Syrossian is back on Hot Creations with his pumping Danzer EP featuring a remix from the prolific remixer Adesse Versions.

Darius explains that the idea for Danzer was born out of frustration with current music sounding the same. Inspired by a Floorplan Boiler Room set he wanted to make a track “that has the energy of techno, some funk flavours and also heavily disco influenced. It became a firm favourite at my Amnesia residency with DO NOT SLEEP”.

Danzer is an utterly insatiable peak-time cut with a dizzying drop, powerful female vocal hook and scintillating strings. The techno tool version does what it says on the tin, adding an almighty bassline that reverberates throughout. Initially beginning life as a vinyl edits project, Adesse Versions has gone on to have releases on revered labels including Razor N Tape and Delusions Of Grandeur. On his version he flips the track on its head, taking it on an altogether different route, layering extra percussive pads and womping synths.

2018 has been a huge year for Darius Syrossian. He began a new residency at Ibiza’s infamous Amnesia, alongside big names including Cassy, Martin Buttrich and Alan Fitzpatrick. No stranger to the White Isle, he’s also held down residencies at some of the island’s most prestigious venues. Syrossian has had releases signed to impressive imprints from Moon Harbour to 8Bit and Get Physical to We Are The Brave. This year also saw Darius begin his radio show on Rinse FM, with the imminent launch of his own label, Mozy Muzik, still to come.

The groove-laden three-track release represents a clear departure from the darker techno
sound of TRICK’s maiden release ‘Watch What Ya Doing’ - further demonstrating Topping’s
versatility as a producer. Kicking off proceedings, the EP’s title track is underpinned by an
infectious vocal sample and the funkiest of beats. While over on the B-side, ‘Let Wa Gan’ is a
darker, moodier number and ‘Galaxy’, featuring the scintillating vocals of Liset Alea, is a
celestial melodic stomper. The collaboration with Liset came about after Topping heard her
vocals on Alex Kid’s ‘Don’t Hide It’. The track quickly became a staple in his sets and he
made the decision to reach out to the Cuban-born singer shortly after.

Moxy Muzik continues to set its own agenda with a fantastic new EP, this time from boss man Darius Syrossian with fresh remixes from Ben Rau and Phil Weeks.

Syrossian is in the middle of a busy summer of gigs at Off Sonar, DC10 and Amnesia that follows on from a run of 7 sold out shows in a row at Joshua Brooks in Manchester before moving the party to South Nightclub for more of the same. 

Of course, his Moxy Muzik label goes from strength to strength with tour events in Berlin, Paris and London, and releases featuring a timeless selection of standout house tracks that are getting DJs and dancers hot under the collar all over the world. This new EP is no different.

Syrossian's original 'Bull Stomp' is a tough thumping house disco techno cross over tune which you will find hard to pigeon hole rock solid kick drums and Robert Hood style claps on the kicks & a disco tinged rolling heavy bass line makes this track a peak time dance floor destroyer. Old school vocal samples add raw energy, and the whole thing builds to a tense peak before erupting once again and bringing pure euphoria to the floor.

Ben Rau is a master of drums who has released on the likes of Get Physical and really takes you on a trip. That is the case here with his lush, spaced out and late night house remix that takes you into the cosmos. Warm pads and soul infused vocal coos add real character to this most emotive groove.

Last but not least, Robsoul man and French house titan Phil Weeks serves up a Ghetto Dub that is pure sleaze, with infectious drum loops and deft percussion all getting under your skin and keeping you on your toes.

These are three more vital tunes from Moxy Muzik that all offer something equally powerful & follow ok from 3 very strong releases all hit either number one or top 5 in the charts on digital or flying off the shelves on vinyl.

Let’s rewind to 1995, to Dan’s teenage years and when his friend Jack first introduced him to the original Moi Renee - Miss Honey. Ball Culture has always been a massive interest of Dan’s and one of the very first videos he ever saw when YouTube was in its infancy was the original, iconic Miss Honey. In turn, it became something iconic for his group of friends at the time and is completely nostalgic when talking about it now.

Dan loved the vocals, so when his gig at Little Gay Brother in London was approaching, he decided to get in the studio and make his own edit for the dancefloor in April 2018. “I sampled the drum loop from an old Armand Van Helden remix, added some bass and a little bit of a riff, and when I put the acapella over the top - it worked a treat” – says Dan’.

“It booted off!!” – that was the feedback from the show in London and at a later show at Sound in Los Angeles. “After that, I thought I might be onto something, as the crowd was going mental. So, I went back to the studio and made it sound bigger with some rave stabs and sent it out to a few people” adds Dan. The end result? An explosive slice of house with a rambunctious groove!

Fans are asking Dan every day about the release date, after Patrick Topping, Fatboy Slim and Annie Mac all dropped the track, and have been giving it the love it deserves ever since. Now we can finally announce, it’s going to be a special day on the 12th June, when ‘Honey’ will finally be available for purchase!

Precision kicks, pitter-patter effects and an escalating melody are joined by a spoken word sample in the bouncy ‘SMML’, before moving into ‘turboshandy’ with its springy bassline, lively synth stabs and heady pitched up vox.
