“I used to work in a restaurant cleaning dishes many years ago.  They had an old fashioned jukebox but it was filled with CD’s.  A copy of Maxinquaye was in the machine and I would sneak out of the kitchen and load it up then dive back into my work. I must have worn that CD out, it was a daily thing for a while.  I grew some attachment to the music and have been listening to Tricky ever since. There’s a certain combination between the tone of his voice and the production that always hit a nerve pretty deeply with me, it’s amazing.”

Tricky - When We Die (FaltyDL Remix)

Tricky has released a new version of "When We Die" featuring New York-based singer/guitarist Breanna Barbara, who will join him on his upcoming October tour of the U.S. and Canada. Barbara reworked the song with her signature reverb-drenched sound, performing it with a live band, sampling in Tricky’s vocals, and adding her take on Topley-Bird’s part. “Breanna really is a unique talent and brings her own vibe to this song,” Tricky said.

“We recorded it out on Rockaway Beach, Queens with Ben Trimble (co-producer/ keys), Charles Garmendia (drums) and Jay Heislemen (guitar),” said Barbara, who is based in Queens. “We wanted to capture the floating, limbo-like space where ‘When We Die’ left us. Rockaway Beach was perfect setting to ask that ageless question, ‘Where do we go when we die?’”

Taken from the forthcoming new album 'False Idols' released on False Idols in association with !K7 Records internationally on 27.05.13 and in the USA on 28.05.13.

Tricky is back. Back with a new album "False Idols". 

The first single, 'Does It', sets the tone. It's a brooding throb of muscular bass, moody handclaps and Tricky's dystopian lyrics. It's ominous, a dark vision of the world that asks why people aren't more angry about the status quo. "People will either get it or not get it," says Tricky. "It's meant to be felt as well as heard - it's primal. Whether people get it or not, the fact is, compared to the over-produced, over marketed stuff out there, it's a wake-up call."

'Does It' is accompanied by a hard-hitting video, which debuted on the Rolling Stone website in March. The imagery is of social unrest, crowds clashing with the police and a troubled Tricky murmuring his lines. It's clearly a political statement. As is the name of his record label, like the album called False Idols. 'Does It' is the first release. 

It's a new start for Tricky. Not that he cares if it works, or if people like it. "I don't give a fuck," he says. "This new album I'll stand behind every track. I don't care whether people like it. I'm doing what I want to do, which is what I did with my first record. That's what made me who I was in the beginning. If people don't like it, it don't matter to me because I'm back where I was."

Back where he belongs.
