This is one of three settings I've written of a song by Faure for the St. Frances Cabrini Taize community. We may use it at Stone Church as well, but my intention was to arrange pieces using flute and guitar. As you'll be able to tell from this rendition, things got quickly out of hand!

One setting is for flute and piano, another is for flute and guitar, and then this one for flute, harp, and string orchestra. The latter is what I heard internally when I first listened to the piece on Spotify. It's obviously my "take" on the piece. I don't ever expect this, or any of my fantasy arrangements, to be performed. But I'm glad to be able to share with you what I "heard". It truly captures what the piece evokes in me. (If it's not already obvious, I am an incurable Romantic.)

I'm finishing up a long post on the piece along with another post of my theological musings about the poem Faure used and my use of it as a Lenten musical offering. I've used the SoundCloud category of "Classical" as opposed to "Religous" for my settings. 

I could begin a long rant about there being no existing category for "Religious". I have to select "Custom" and then type it in. And, yes, there is a blizzard of categories to choose from, but no "Religious". There is a philosophical puzzle here on the notion of "categories" but for now, I'll be posting something more along the lines of the Philosophy of Religion and plain old Theology.

This stunning fanfare by veteran composer Robert W. Smith was inspired by the historic and legendary Boeing B-17 aircraft used by the United States Army Air Corps in World War II.  Beginning with a powerfultimpani statement, the brass section responds with a bold introductory theme. Strong melodic lines interacting with woodwind flourishes make this piece sound more mature and difficult than the grade level indicates.  We highly recommend this majestic fanfare for any concert, festival or ceremonial performance!
