Today I tested and old sample library and a new one I've got to compare their sounds. I used the junto prompt as inspiration for my tests.

I'm a small time alchemist, so I didn't went too far into the transformation. I just wrote a simple piano piece, I submerged the piano piece into some some string orchestra as a potion (a plugin called Fragile String Evolutions) and you can hear the piano piece already evolving. Then the theme is played one last time on some distant, noisy string quartet and low strings (from Cinesamples' Quatre Harmonics).
There's some sort of hi pitched pump organ, that's a mistake (I forgot to mute a test track) , I decided to keep it there in the background.

Disquiet Junto Project 0635: ’Round the Bend
The Assignment: You’re in a duo, and your bandmate is a train.

I took a part from the long train recording and added different kinds of improvisations, following my intuition, using a MicroFreak thru Soma Cosmos (avoiding any rhythm) and some Landform. The maxim was to use the rhythm in order to ignore it as much as possible.

I added slide steel guitar, live vocal samples, and sound effects to create a tense dramatic backdrop for whatever happens in the third round of this Disquiet Junto!

The Last Of The Opera Murders [disquiet0637]

This week's prompt was to add the second part of an asynchronous trio. I used a random number generator and got "Four Variations for Left" by Jimmy Lem: https://soundcloud.com/blisterpop/four-variations-for-left-by-jimmy-lem-disquiet0636

I was excited by the structural promises the title of his track made, and I was not disappointed!

I tried to come up with complementary sounds to contextualize Jimmy's guitar in interesting ways.
:03 - :18 I added some extra experimental twang to the guitar using some of Michael Norris' spectral plugins

:18 -:31 I added some low tones to outline what's basically an Eb minor chord (Eb7 add 6 sus 2)

:31 - :50 Adds some gentle piano chords that follow the guitar

:50 -1:09 The guitar signal trips an envelope follower that controls the likely hood of triggering Ableton's Beat Repeat / pitch dropper on the low drone

1:56 the reversed guitar is a new sound, but it all happens over the original Eb minor chord, but transposed down a half-step to D minor. Then, the chord nudges itself back up to Eb minor to end the track.

This was a fun project! Jimmy gave me a lot to work with, the extreme panning reminds me of listening to cassettes on headphones back in the 80's.

For future collaborators, the track is a steady 76 bpm.

I wanted to add some light harmony to underscore the melody. Converted the melody to midi harmony in Ableton. Made some light adjustments to midi notes here and there. Used the Schwarzonator 2.0 device to help add some additional chord notes. Chose some light key sounds from Kontakt 40's keys and Playbox. Also light bass from Lode, and melodic tabla. Tapped in the shaker parts. Panned hard right with orginal panned left. 

Enjoyed listening Sinny Sound's lovely melody while making this. I'll be humming it all week!

It was fun listening to everyone's "Left" tracks this week, I'm always in awe by this community's talent and creativity!
