Closing 2023 with a breathtaking selection of new music, Purified Fragments returns for its seventeenth installment. Featuring three pristine productions, this compilation showcases music from Polish artist Rafa’EL (Soulmotion), Italian producer Birø (løst it all) and Argentine duo Cimmerian & Luciano F (Interconnect).

The Fragments XVII artwork displays a spectacular photograph of a jellyfish by Daniel Nicholson. Ancient inhabitants of the seas, jellyfish fascinate with their ethereal and often mesmerizing presence. These gelatinous organisms, encompassing a wide variety of species, have evolved an array of survival strategies, from venomous tentacles to bioluminescence. Their population dynamics, influenced by factors like warming waters and nutrient-rich habitats, underscore their adaptability to changing environments. Studying jellyfish's ecological roles is crucial as they influence marine food webs and serve as indicators of ocean health. Organizations like the Marine Biological Association contribute to the ongoing scientific exploration of jellyfish, shedding light on their importance in the larger context of marine ecosystems. Lack of comprehensive data makes it challenging to assess the conservation status of most jellyfish species according to the IUCN Red List. 

Located on the Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, Daniel Nicholson is one of the globe’s most prominent professional underwater photographers. He seeks to share the beauty and magic of the underwater world to inspire conservation and change.

We took so much time over the track, adding in subtle layers and incidentals into the production so that each time you listen you can find something new and the main lead is constantly moving and was made with 3 layers of sound that weave around each other, we think it sounds awesome!

Returning to Purified Records with his first solo label offering, Dutch producer Thysma delivers his stunning two-track ‘Shiver’ EP. Entering a blissful sonic realm, the title track floats across a soothing arrangement with twinkling keys and undulating patterns. Moving into ‘Next To You’, this vocal cut combines rhythmic percussion with enlightening melodies to complete the EP. 

The ‘Shiver’ artwork features a majestic image of a whale shark captured by Daniel Nicholson. Among the most iconic of sharks, the whale shark is the largest fish that exists today. The whale shark is found worldwide through all tropical and warm temperate seas, apart from the Mediterranean. Though they appear to prefer surface waters between 21-24 degrees C, they make regular dives down to 1000 meters. One of the biggest scientific mysteries is where the pregnant females give birth, though there is some evidence that the Philippines may host a nursery ground. Because of their importance to local tourism economies, whale sharks are fully protected in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. Organizations like the MarAlliance focus on research, conservation, and community engagement to protect threatened marine species, including whale sharks and rays. The whale shark is listed as endangered according to the IUCN Red List.

Thysma - Shiver

About 15 years ago we were booked to play a gig up in Manchester called Agenda. We went and played and it was a great night, so much fun in fact, that we ended up hanging out at their afterparty all night and morning (we only just made it to the train back home!)

Phil (who is still in my phone as Phil Agenda) who put on the night ended up becoming a close friend and collaborator on many tracks through the years (check out Astral, Cawewa, our remix of Salvation as some highlights).
Phil's music has always had a darker, more edgy sound to it and when we collaborate our (Trilucid's) more melodic sound gets pulled in that direction, ending up in really exciting places that combine the best of both our styles.

Cosmic Tonic is a result of this collaboration, with influences of techno and the darker edges of progressive. We actually started writing this track about 6 years ago but were never 100% with it. We revisited it often through the years, switching in new ideas and arrangements, then in the latest session, it all just clicked. The intro melody added a whole new dimension that led to a whole new bassline, that provides a lot of energy, and once those were in place the arrangement was a breeze.

We're really happy with the final track, it's something unique and energetic, and we're excited for the release on Friday.
We've had feedback and support already from some great DJs including Guy J, Above & Beyond, Anthony Pappa, Marsh, Aly & Fila and loads more.

Trilucid & Phil Martyn - Cosmic Tonic (Original Mix)

London based duo Trilucid, consisting of South African Hilton and Scot Andy, have, in just a short time, risen through the ranks of melodic and progressive house to become one of the stand-out acts of the moment. Their music has clocked up over 15 million streams on Spotify in the last year, topped Beatport charts and drawn support from global tastemakers and underground trailblazers alike.  Their music draws on their deep knowledge and experience of electronic music to create a sound that is entirely their own, combining elements of deep house, progressive, ambient and techno to captivating effect. 

Over the last decade they have held a 5-year residency for Gallery at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London, released records on UV, Proton, Colorize, Anjuna, ZeroThree , Afterglow, Glasgow Underground, Perspectives Digital and Perfecto Records. They have toured extensively both in the UK and overseas, including their residency at Ministry of Sound, SW4 and Egg in London and Space, Amnesia, Pacha and Café del Mar in Ibiza.

A melodic fusion of house inspired drums, euphoric synth lines and uniquely emotive sound design, the 2 track EP placed the duo firmly on the map.  

This was followed shortly after by Cheyenne, a rich and uplifting melodic gem that hit number 2 on Beatport’s progressive house chart, remaining in the chart for a further 6 months, topping 2+ million streams on Spotify, and receiving extensive airplay on radio shows across the globe. 

They followed this up with The Loved Are Never Lost on Proton, a moving journey dedicated to lost family, that has topped 1 million streams, hit the Beatport prog house top 10 and become one of the top 100 prog best sellers of 2022.    

Into 2023 a string of critically acclaimed releases on UV, Colorize and Proton pushed the duo into the top 20 genre artists on Beatport, and saw them reach into a more experimental side of their production with their unique series of Sunrise and Sunset mixes. This has seen the pair swiftly enter the top 100 Beatport electronica artists in 2023 and has cemented their reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative acts in melodic house.
