The Method To His Madness

Many artists sing songs that refer to “the streets”, “the ghetto” and “the daily hustle”, and suffice it to say, they grew up in the suburbs in a four bedroom house complete with two car garage.  Trinity Chris, born Christopher Jones, can sing about the streets as much as he wants.  That’s where he’s from, that’s what he knows.  Some think that the “School of Hard Knocks” is a just an expression, but Trinity Chris is a genuine graduate.   So, if you hear energy, passion, aggression, strife and peril in his voice...then you heard right! Chris doesn’t take it to the streets; he takes it to the reggae beats. 

The Trial, The Tribulation

Make no mistake; the lure of the streets is a powerful one.  It was inevitable that its charms would wrap themselves around Trinity so tightly; it eventually landed him incarcerated in 2000.  For 5 long years, he learned to harness his demons and expel them through music.  Although he had explored his musical talent at great length from the young age of 17, it was through this time of reflection and solitude that his mission became his mandate.  When the confines of prison no longer wanted him, the Dancehall scene was ready to embrace him.

A.D.D. – A Dancehall Destroyer

Trinity Chris broke out with “The Anthem” (An Ode to Canada) in 2005 with the support of Spex “The Riddim Track Master” and became the first Canadian Dancehall recording artist to have a video played on MuchMusic.  (not bad for a Madhead).  He followed up with the heavy rotation track “Bun a Tight Pants” in 2006, and went on to collaborate with some of the biggest artists in the business: Akon – Psalms 91 (2006), The “Gaza God” Vybz Kartel – War Winner (2007), and Beenie Man – Galong Bad (2007).  His mastery of performing on strong Dancehall riddims was so widely embraced that Trinity, just 18 months after incarceration, was flattening the stage in Jamaica at renowned events such as Sting, Sumfest, Curefest and Fully Loaded.  Jamaica respected his craft so much that he even won the Uprising Artist of the Year award from “X” Newspaper.  In 2007, he was nominated for a Juno award here in Canada for his song “In The Streets” with Blessed, and was a performer at the Juno pre-show in Saskatoon.  With that song “In The Streets”, Trinity Chris proved that your past helps to shape your future.  

Tour-ette’s Syndrome

Trinity has performed at over 200 live shows.  He has opened and performed alongside legendary artists such as: Mavado, Buju, Beenie, KRS One, Nas, Lost Boys, Shabba Ranks, Cobra, Patra, Elephant Man, and Sizzla.  He has toured nationwide across Canada and the birthplace of reggae, Jamaica.  His talent has been supported by producers such as Akon, Boiwunda and Beat Merchant.  (Now that’s some “Big Man Ting!”)

Trinity Chris is ready to storm the scene once again.  His groundbreaking entry onto the Dancehall Reggae arena can never be forgotten and his return shall be one of the most highly anticipated in recent memory. A lot of people may wonder what really goes on in the mind of Trinity Chris.  I’ll tell you.  Music.  So, as long as he continues to use his mad head to slaughter riddims with his booming voice and sharp wit, Trinity Chris can invade my “angry cerebellum” anytime he wants.
