Produced by the band, we had a lot of enjoyment working together creating the backing tracks for these songs and I think you can hear that in the playing. One of the last times I got to play those guitars.

Michael J Moran Children's Songs Showreel 2020

I wrote most of this in the cafe of the Walker Art Gallery in 2004 whilst on a break working as a sound recordist for a Channel 5 documentary. I was very lucky to be able to ask Liverpool legend Marc Vormawah to sing it and for the late Becky McDonough to do backing vocals.

The first line of this song was written in 1984 but it was another 20 years before I turned it into a completed song. The vocal was recorded in 2006 to just a piano guide and I then added the band parts later. I’ve just done a new mix and big thanks to Alan Watson for mastering. Some lyrics have changed since the vocal was recorded. Sadly I couldn’t get Paul back into the studio to tweak them.

I first studied for a Diploma in Light Music in the early 1980s at Mabel Fletcher Technical College in Liverpool then worked as a freelance musician and sound engineer developing my own PA hire business before signing to Arista Records and BMG Music Publishing as guitarist and member of 16 Tambourines, releasing an album and two singles and touring with Squeeze, Hue & Cry and Wet Wet Wet. I subsequently worked as a tour manager and sound engineer before returning to education to study at The University of Salford.

I worked as operations manager for Adlib Audio while continuing to perform as a freelance musician performing in theatre productions and recording library albums for Primrose Music.

I entered education as a main grade lecturer in 1999 at Liverpool Community College whilst continuing to develop commercial music and audio projects and have written music for feature films including Going Off Big Time (2000), Under the Mud (2006) and City of Spies (2022).


I am a director of The Vocal Booth that provides audio services to the TV, Film and digital media industries. I have recorded voice and dialogue for many feature films and major television dramas. I also write and record songs and music for children, working with Toddler Fun Learning/Moonbug and have achieved in excess of 350 million streams of my work.
