My mum was a child minder. Growing up, there were plenty of other kids at home. One was called Stevie. When confronted with something unusual, he'd say "That's a funny habitat!" To my shame, sometimes my brother and I used to tease him. This song is dedicated to him.

Habitat

Stevie crawls right up the hill and then we push him down again
Stevie climbs the metal slide and then we hurl him down again
Up and down  - down & up 
Then we shove him down again
up & down - down and up
Then we shove him down again

What’s he say?
"That’s a funny habitat - That’s a funny habitat"
He’ll complain 

Steve looked looked like Frankie Howerd ‘cause he had a biggish head
“Stevie looked liked Frankie Howerd” - I’m sorry that is what I said

And who could really blame him so?
And when he saw the climbing frame?….

Brain’s inflamed

Jack and Jill runs up the hill it’s such a thrill 
to push them down and

What fun we had, never sad, a plastic bag a finger wag Stevie cries “Come here you scallywags-

Stevie runs and Stevie plays - it’s been sunny now for days
Stevie huffs and Stevie puffs - you’re a scallywag he says 
I’m so sorry that I showed you the scary waxworks photographs
The pictures of the severed heads and the infamous murderers 
Something strange? 
“That’s a funny habitat!”
Who’s to blame?
It’s a shame
