German based duo Hidden Empire are swiftly making progression in their climb to the top of the techno scene. They’re known from several hit releases on Stil vor Talent and Traum Schallplatten. We are gleesome to open the doors of Filth on Acid and welcome them for a 3 track original EP. On remix duties we gladly find Egbert, the Dutch powerhouse of peak-time techno, who’s currently releasing on Drumcode.

Twilight Of The Gods opens with Baldur. The authoritative, round kick and bassline build a colossal foundation on which propulsive arpeggiators shift things into next gear. A sturdy, polished groove ensures movement on the dancefloor. The atmospherics and hornlike shout of Baldur, hint to the unfortunate fate of this mythological creature as well as building pleasant pressure.

Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, stays true to its name, as it is a definite peak-time affair. Long stretched swelling, bassy pads are the backbone for reverberated percussion and dapper synth stabs. Memorable synth melodies unfold on the break to balance force and profoundness.

Bragi can be seen as the most hypnotic of the pack. Arpeggiated synths, soft pads and detailed synths hint to the abstruse nature of Bragi; the god of poets. Smart drum programming keeps the track in ever morphing state.

We close the EP in style, with Egbert’s remix of Bragi. As an artist, always on the lookout of new ways to detonate party crowds, this time he derives a groove with qualities of cavalry. Throughout the track the kick, bassline and drums continuously exert and exchange powers, which makes it sound like a constant battle as to where in the groove they can sit. This unique element builds an enormous strain. Combined with the beautiful break; again Egbert’s music arrives at the next level.

LAAT is one of the most exciting fresh names emerging in the techno scene. After his releases on Tronic and Elevate, we gladly welcome the Dutchman to Filth on Acid. LAAT has spent a very long time to perfect his craft, until he was confident enough to unleash his work onto the dancefloor. His sound manages to be both contemporary as well as unique. For the remixes we decided to make the Island of Memory EP a full on Dutch party and therefore brought Joran van Pol from Richie Hawtin’s Minus stable and Rob Hes, most known for his releases on Dubfire’s SCI+TEC and Christian Smith’s Tronic. 

The outset is formed by the title track Island of Memory, with a main synthline that is as hypnotizing as it is driving. Varied drumprogramming and clever modulation with a good eye for detail make sure the track stays exciting and surprising. The remarkable sound quality and sound design ensures stunning translation on any soundsystem.

We continue with the Joran van Pol remix of Island of Memory. He zooms in on the original’s synth hook, and reforms it into alien territories. His ability to compose music that is well suited for peaktime affairs without obvious build ups creates a musical architecture that is accessible while at the same time unmistakable alluring to more subtle DJ sets.

Boaconic, the third track sets the mood with a heavy sub bass groove. At a slow pace, the synth hook gets introduced, building a compelling world of sound. The well-structured arrangement keeps the flow going in this soft burning crowd pleaser.

The Rob Hes remix of the title track opens up with a dirty, heavy warehouse kick and big piercing hihats. Gently he introduces the synthline from the original, but giving it extra glow and a different, inspiriting colour. The disposition and rearranging of the synth elements impart his remix a distinct feel from the original.

Closing out the EP in style is done with R88. Again, heavily leaning on a well-defined synth hook, R88 takes a more acidy root through measures of high resonance and screaming synths.

An illustrious career stretching over two decades has seen, Chico Shuella, become one of Israel’s most respected and sought after DJs and producers. Operating under his Chicola production moniker, he has transformed the underground house scene in his homeland while making giant strides on a global scale. Surrounded by music from an early age and an accomplished pianist ensured Chicola had a keen ear for musical harmony, as early DJ parties quickly flourished into appearances in Israel’s biggest clubs. Throughout the late 90s, the world renowned “Allenby 58”, situated in the Tel Aviv capital, played host to Chicola’s skills behind the decks as his career blossomed, warming up for such elite artists as Carl Craig, Danny Tenaglia, Sister Bliss and Basement Jaxx.

An unparalleled dedication and passion for his craft saw the young Chicola yearning to bring the newest music and brightest underground stars to his homeland by travelling the world’s record shops. One time collector of over 10,000 pieces of vinyl, encapsulating the excitement of dance music at the height of its seductive powers, Chicola’s work for trendsetting record shops and music labels provided him with the opportunity to begin international DJ appearances alongside a residency at the famous Haoman 17 club alongside fellow Israeli superstar, Sahar Z.

Sets for such luminaries as Laurent Garnier and his radio show, coupled with a production career that began with DJ Vic and led to successful releases on US imprints, Tommy Boy and KTA, soon saw appearances on the Ministry of Sound imprint as Roger Sanchez became a supporter of the Chicola sound.

A carefully constructed pause in a career rising at exponential rate saw Chicola become one of Israel’s most sought after wedding DJs transforming his skill, technique and knowledge into a hugely successful business enterprise, managing one of Israel’s largest wedding DJ agencies and performing upwards of 130 gigs a year while simultaneously helping develop a successful dance label and publishing agency.

The second release on Mirror Records shows perfectly that to find talent you don't have to be looking far away. Sometimes the best is just around the corner waiting to be discovered - like Monsieur Pluspetit! We are more than happy to welcome this talented artist from our hometown to the family. For his Waking Dream EP he produced three Original tracks. The first one, Never Tired, was made in a collaboration with the street artist Nanou and consists of a dreamy build up, driving high hats and beautiful vocals parts. The title track Waking Dream is also quite dreamy but with more drive and groove. Creating a catchy vibe and instant goosebumps! The last original Track however futures a hypnotiyque melody and is pretty straight forward - completing the EP with a true dance floor monster. To finish off the EP we found two very unique remixers to work on Waking Dream. First of all we have Haze-M, who put the track in a spacey direction and turned the melody around to create a very exciting remix and on the other hand we have Shosho who created a more minimalistic and playful version of the track. It's a pleasure to have both of them on the imprint!
