The tune reminds us of the good ol’ Latewood mood from his first EP in 2016. Melancholic melodies and moogy synths meet a mid tempo house beat. That is all we need from time to time.

Music producer @merciermusic used to play Jazz piano and likes to combine these elements with classic Techno/Funk and Disco sounds. The artists gives away two tracks – “Soap” and “Girl” – and talked to us about the production and impact of the songs.

trndmsk: Where did you get the idea to produce the tracks?

MERCIER: Concerning “Soap”: all it took was a hot bath, dimmed lights and soap to have a good evening. I was inspired by the movie “Superfly” and wanted to convey this mood musically. Mixing the different Rhodes melodies turned out to be the key element of the calm and yet motivating musical tub. And on “Girl”: virtual, analogue or real– everybody knows the feeling of having to look at a person or a picture of the person again and again, wondering who the person belongs to. That feeling is most powerful at the end of a long night. I tried to depict this naive late-night affection.

Der Musikproduzent @merciermusic kommt aus dem Jazzpiano und mixt diese Einflüsse mit klassischen Sounds des Techno/Funk und Disco. Über trndmusik verschenkt der Künstler zwei seiner Werke - "Soap" und "Girl" - und spricht über deren Entstehung und die Wirkung, die sie erzielen sollen.

trndmsk: Woher kamen deine Einfälle zu den beiden Tracks? 

MERCIER: Bei "Soap": Eine heiße Wanne, gedimmtes Licht und Seife - das genügt oft, um einen schönen Abend zu haben. Inspiriert vom Film "Superfly" will "Soap" diese Stimmung musikalisch übersetzen. Dabei ist das einander Verweben der verschiedenen Rhodes- Melodien Kern der ruhigen, aber trotzdem anregenden musikalischen Wanne. Zu "Girl": Sei es virtuell, analog oder real: Jeder kennt das Gefühl, eine Person oder ein Bild von ihr immer wieder ansehen zu müssen und sich zu fragen, zu wem sie gehört. Besonders eindringlich passiert das am Ende ein langen Nacht. Der Track versucht genau diese spätabendliche, naive Zuneigung darzustellen.

Exclusive Kalabrese 'Erin 1B'

Zurich based DJ and producer Kalabrese remixes Rizzoknor, one of his favorite bands from his hometown when it comes to the fusion of jj-cale licks and club oriented music. According to Sacha, Kalabrese's off-stage name, 'Rizzoknor's sound brims over with energy', and he continues his puff piece with 'even DJ playing after the band have a tough time keeping the energy of their performance up.' This being said, of course, Kalabrese was all in to remix 'Erin' and chose an opposing approach to the track, meaning his piece of art is 'a dreamy dub with many drum-fills. Probably more as Georg [editor's note: Georg the drummer from Rizzoknor] is ever allowed to play.' But knowing Kalabrese and his outstanding productions the remix has way more to offer than the aforementioned and turns the original into a funky twisted re-work that gets its audience attention with the first note.

The first volume of the compilation series “Erin Remixed” will be released on March 16th on RAVE U R.

The Odd Orchestra has once again landed and they’ve brought stories from their time in the sky. This odd group of three soars beyond previous explorations.

Free floating in a blend of techno, dub, jazz and rock they song-write their way through a landscape that is truly their own. Perhaps even more than the critically acclaimed albums released on Get Physical a decade ago, they now expose the rough edges, rendering themselves naked, perhaps even egoless. 

Please give a warm embrace to the intoxicating voice of Raz Ohara, the Belgian bohemian Oliver Doerell and guitarist/musical “akurat” Tom Krimi as “The Odd Orchestra”, and dwell into this bundle of delicate electronic tristesse.

In addition to the originals, there’s three remixes included. AMyn takes on Driftwood in his very own r&b manner. The addition of chords and extra melodies shows how the song holds its own in different genres.  

Hölle gets an revamp by Berlin locals TRU and Moodfamily’s Beazar. Both approaches are similar, both trying to strip the original song to the bone. Where Beazar distills a pertinent groove in the remix, TRU delivers an excellent bonedry beatless version of Hölle, oozing with drama and terrific contrasts.
