Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

We land for the seventh time in a new musical planet in our trip through The Continuum. And you better get ready for the adventures Javier Marimon has prepared for you as the host of his sonic world in the form of a live set.

A storyteller like no other, Javier's creative output flows in many directions. You will find his music creations in many labels like Crescent London, Kizen, Huinali, Accents, Oslated, Secuencias Temporales... and also on his own imprint Off Tangent. He has performed at some of our favourite events including Mostra, Perpendicular, La Nature or La vallée électrique. If that does not already seem busy, his visual art has found it's way to numerous other labels and identities for events and festivals. It is probably impossible to count the number of notebooks filled with his artistic sketches, and lately, his sculptures are taking over his feed.

His work always invites the listener (or viewer) to take part. His, as he would say, 'proudly sketchy' approach puts the receiver in a participant role rather than a witness. His whimsical craft demands attention and often will get you building universes. His inspired sound inspires, and the energy he embeds his art with is contagious; an energy of curiosity, with a childlike wish for filling the gaps. You are all invited to Javier's game.

And his adventure for The Continuum comes, as we mentioned, in live set format. A man and a sampler. Javier builds with his SP404 a musical collage of soundscapes, distant and abstract rhythms, mysterious melodies, and a dose of subaquatic dub. All of it with his signature dose of mischief, and very proudly sketchy. Recorded somewhere in Shizuoka in Japan.

This mix will be exploring auditory localization and how the temporal lobes are involved in the process. The temporal lobes are crucial for auditory localization, a process that involves identifying the source of a sound. The primary auditory cortex, located in the superior temporal gyrus of the temporal lobe, receives and processes raw auditory information. More specifically, the brain uses binaural cues like differences in sound intensity (loudness) and timing (arrival time) between the two ears to locate a sound.

James Tenney (1936 - 2006) was an American composer, musicologist and pianist. He wrote extensively for various unusual instrumental combinations and he was a leading figure in the electroacoustic movement of the 1960s, also creating some important early computer compositions. He made significant early musical contributions to plunderphonics, sound synthesis, algorithmic composition, process music, spectral music, and microtonal tuning systems including extended pure intonation. His theoretical writings variously concern musical form, texture, timbre, consonance and dissonance, and harmonic perception.
