In a lecture delivered in July 2007 as part of the first Islamic Summer Courses with Mūsá Richardson (ʿAqīdah Course, Class 7 of 12), some discussion was made on the "Beliefs of the Nation of Islām." This audio was excerpted and made available on troid.ca as From the Beliefs of the 'Nation of Islām' and published online on the 17th of Oct. 2007. During this discourse, while clearly identifying their disbelief, the speaker refrained from applying the ruling of takfīr to the NOI specifically. Our beloved brother, Abū al-ʿAbbās Mūsá Richardson clarifies this mistake by mentioning what has reached him of good advice and correction including the speech of Scholars who have made takfīr of the NOI (Nation of Islām) noting importantly, that they are not those who ever were within the realm of Islām to begin with (i.e. their origin is disbelief).

Allāh subḥānahu wa taʿala said in His Book, the meaning of which is, "O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire whose fuel is men and stones". Some of the people claim saying, "we should encourage the students to seek knowledge but we shouldn't speak about the issues of refutation, misguidance and deviation…when we encourage them to seek knowledge then they will be able to determine this (falsehood)." 

This doubt is prevalent today, used by those who know that the Salafī will not accept the idea of being silent about ahl al-bidʿah outright; so smartly, the unscrupulous one tries to convince them that we can simply spread knowledge and the falsehood will become clear (a ploy to prevent the dissemination of knowledge-based refutation).

Abū ʿUways on taking knowledge from the senior scholars This is a tremendous benefit, taken from the lecture entitled 'The Importance of Sticking to the Scholars', from our beloved brother Abū ʿUways ʿAbdullāh Aḥmad ʿAlī (raḥimahullāh). In this lecture he (raḥimahullāh) describes some of the characteristics of the true scholars. One of the main characteristics that our noble brother (raḥimahullāh) mentions is the characteristic of old age. He mentions that in most cases being elderly is a key trait that the scholars have, except in certain rare cases. Our beloved brother (raḥimahullāh) goes on to mention the reasons why one should not take knowledge from those young in age and the many deficiencies they may have. Listen, so that you may benefit from this clarification that precedence is to be given to those scholars who are elder in age whose knowledge is agreed upon by the scholars in his time.

Our brother and teacher, Mūsá Richardson, commends the Salafīs of Toronto for going on ʿUmrah (AH 1438) in such great numbers, and going with upright Salafi companions. This, he said, is from the signs of goodness in the community (Toronto). He makes duʿāʾ that Allāh, subḥānahu wa-taʿālá, brings them back to their community safe and sound and that He blesses them in their companionship, acts of worship and their visits with the scholars, and also, that He brings them back in good health, and with accepted actions, forgiven sins and raised ēmān.

From the Mercy of Allāh is that He sent to us a messenger, as He says in Sūrah al-Anbiyāʾ, "and We have not sent you except as a mercy for the 'Ālamin." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was a person of great character and virtue. Allāh says in Sūrah al-Qalam, "And Verily, you are on an exalted (standard of character)." Ustādh Hamzah ʿAbd al-Razzāq is asked about fitnah: hating it, running from it, hiding when it appears, is this the correct position? The noble brother explains that fitnah is a reality of this world. We will be tested and tried, over and over. There is no flawless life. Everyone will taste pain. Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) said: being a human being is a fitnah! Holding together a community is fitnah, facing attacks is fitnah, taking the right position is fitnah. There’s nowhere to run. Allāh has decreed that we will be tested, and then we will be ultimately judged. He explains that if we understood the Book and the Sunnah, we would not say: “I hate fitnah”. We would understand it is to be expected and we have to be firm and resolute, not cowering and running. We should be patient, we should love to defend and protect the Sunnah and its people. Fitnah purifies, fitnah raises (statuses), fitnah diminishes (statuses). In fact, the trials will intensify, becoming more difficult, what will we do? People close to you may betray you, how will you handle it? The person of Sunnah does not say: "I’m tired of fitnah".
