Techno/Tech house 5

This week's AMFM is the beginning of a 7 h set that I played in a very special location. The club is called Distillery and is in Leipzig Germany. It is the longest running club that I have played at in my DJ career. My first gig there was part of the Harthouse 100 Tour in September 1996. The club has an upstairs floor and a downstairs basement floor. The basement is the smaller of both floors and that was the one I got to play in 1996. Since the club now goes into its final year, I wanted to once more play in the basement, so I did an all night long set on May 25th 2022. I started at midnight and ended shortly after 7 in the morning, playing quite a few classics as well. Sadly, due to a technical issue, I didn't manage to save a tracklist, so I appreciate any help that I can get with that in the comments from all of you! (Well I know what I played, it is just quite a lot of work to reconstruct that...) I hope you enjoy this whole set, it was very special to me and quite emotional at times, as I had loads of great memories popping up during my time down there, from all the amazing times that I got to have in this fantastic venue over the years. A big thanks goes out to the whole crew of the club, especially to Steffen, who has been running this place passionately since the beginning and is currently preparing the move into a new location by January 2023. Once more this is a reminder, how important the club scene is for our music and that we all should always support our local clubs. In the end they are the foundation for the music, for the resident DJs and for the crowd that enjoys a good time together. We would be nowhere without those kind of clubs run by passionate people for so many years. Long live Distillery Leipzig!

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. ALiVE Recordings is a label run by Tom Budden.  It's dedicated to House music, ALiVE has a back catalogue of artists which include Leftwing & Kody, Shadow Child, Shall Ocin, Waifs & Strays, Yousef, Cera Alba and many others of a similar calibre. 

De Man Zonder Schaduw aka Man With No Shadow is a Dutch producer who started his DJ career throwing infamous GZG parties, which lead to a residency at the globally recognised Sensation where he played to festival sized crowds at arena events.  This new release features original material from him, follows previous EP’s on ALiVE, many will recognise from his seminal releases on Shinedoe’s label Intacto Records. 

The first track on the release titled “Black Tulip” is our Debut Transmission and has thick bass stabs, snare rolls and rising pads that build with energy until the tracks main bassline hits with devastating force. Complimented with a simple melody synth it’s not long before the bass stabs return and this dancefloor focused monster hits its crescendo.

Canadian label Eternal Drive makes a statement before a well earned break following a string of releases featuring artists like Audio Injection, Flug, Alex Bau, Subjected, Brendon Moeller and Luis Flores amongst many others.

Making their debut by way of collaboration on the labels fourteenth release are Ninna V from Portugal and Virulent in the USA. Solo productions on the likes of Illegal Alien, Naked Lunch, !Organism, Rheostatus and Ill Bomb Records to name a few, have put these two firmly on the map.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell. 

The new Intec release welcomes Boris who is a Russian born and NYC based DJ whose Techno sound has been in high regard since he first appeared on Dubfires revered SCI+TEC imprint. Since that release Boris has featured on labels including Octopus, Tronic, Terminal M, Suara, Toolroom Trax, Phobiq, and his own Transmit Recordings. Having been a resident at nearly every major club in his home city of New York, including venues like Pacha, Crobar, and Roxy. Boris has also travelled the world playing headline DJ sets everywhere from Womb in Japan to Space in Ibiza. 

Underground starts with the crunch of a heavy kick drum that cuts through the rumble of the rolling bassline. Full throttle and packed with energy, the track has a dark mood and deep atmospherics. Taking its title from the twisted vocal sample, this is dancefloor focused Techno at its best. 

Go Bang is pushed forward by the offbeat stab of the lead pad that lifts the track with its explosive bursts. Textured vocals chopped into looped phrases combine with fast flowing hi-hats to create the tracks fast and furious groove. Intense and relentless, this Techno workout is perfect for peak time DJ plays. 

U Better has a raw sound packed with snare rolls and dramatic synths that are dark and sinister. Building with tension, the track focuses on a series of bass drops where each one is more gripping than the last. Tronic is one of the most established and longest-running techno labels in the world. Founded in 1994 by Christian Smith while he was attending University, the label now has over 430 releases under its belt. Christian and his team have paved the way for many artists including ANNA, Dosem, Wehbba, and more recently Drunken Kong. Tronic's main philosophy is simple: nonpurist, honest, house and techno. The label has released countless of artist albums and is regularly supported by the top players in the industry. Some outstanding releases have been Christian Smith's remixes of Carl Craig's seminal 'At Les" song, which has become one of the biggest vinyl sales releases of the past decade. Other notable releases and remixes came from Laurent Garnier, and Underworld. The weekly Tronic Radio show is being syndicated on over 120 stations worldwide and has had over 500 shows. With regards to events, Tronic has had a successful 15-week season in Ibiza at the 3000-capacity Eden super club, while also hosting arenas at established festivals, and doing over 100+ club events worldwide from Tokyo to London, Sao Paulo, and Detroit.
