Hailing from Venice but currently in Berlin, Italian DJ/Producer Nico Cabeza boasts an impressive catalogue of releases on Riot Recordings, Unrilis, Respekt Recordings and many more. Nico is set to expand his archive of musical works in January as he joins Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint for his debut release on the label. Spread across three individually unique tracks, Cabeza’s ‘Laguna’ EP sees in the new year with an immersive influx of high-quality techno production and artistic expression.‘Laguna’ plunges the listener into a deepened array of groove-bringing tonal percussion, intricate hat sequences and punchy kicks. Progressively expanding from the track’s core, you’ll find an encapsulating combination of synth and bass arps fuse into the backdrop of resonant pads, sweeping FX and atmospheric breaks to carve out an energetic melodic techno roller with subtle, ethereal nuances throughout.‘Repressed Memories’ shows a firmer edge to Cabeza’s work. Booming kickdrums and hissing hat grooves lead alongside reverberated acid stabs. Another prominent synth arp makes the centrepiece, surrounded by a vignette of pounding beats, coarse, bleeding bass notes and corrosive chords, all brought together by a head-turning soulful vocal hook. Intec is known to many a Techno fan as a scene leading label set up by the iconic Carl Cox who has been at the forefront of DJ culture since the early 90’s.

Boasting a roster of artists including the label boss himself plus Nicole Moudaber, Jon Rundell, Marco Bailey, Carlo Lio, Cristian Varela and Dosem amongst many others of a similar calibre.

The new Intec release welcomes back Fabio Neural who along with seven previous releases on Intec, many will also recognise Fabio from imprints such as SCI+TEC, Intacto, KD Music, Serkal and Adam Beyer’s label Truesoul.

Fabio now travels the globe regularly DJ’ing on the same line up scene leaders like Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing and Sven Väth.

An exciting talent yet to peak, this four track solo EP is a fine example of why Italian born Fabio has earned international respect and a fan base that spans continents.

“Bonzai” opens the release with looped pads that are packed with tension and sound almost like a warning siren, whilst muffled vocals create a sense of curiosity and menacing bass stabs add to the tracks overall intensity. Relenting only for the euphoria of the main breakdown, this dancefloor focused Techno track is both dark and furious.

Second on the release is “Inside Me” that fuses the rising tones of a soulful vocal with heavy percussion and a grinding bass line. Its rolling groove brought to life with claps and fast flowing hi-hats can only be described as peak time Techno at its best.

Track three titled “Seligman” is led by a pulsating lead synth that morphs into twisted acid with a hypnotic groove. Snares add to the tracks powerful forward momentum and textured FX create a sense of wide open space, which gives the track a vast and epic sound.

Finishing the EP is “Sick Boy” which takes its name from the hair-raising vocal which states “I’m going to tear your soul apart”. Sick and twisted, the track’s sinister lead synth adds to its chilling vibe and haunting atmosphere, but like any thrill seeker knows… it’s the compelling suspense and threat of impending doom that speaks the most excitement!

With the single "Plankton" Steve brings dark techno together with classic sounding strings to create a melodic anthem which we think will do some serious damage world wide damage!

On remix label favourite Richie Santana returns with a raw pounding version which takes the original to the next level!

If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less. Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants. There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer. With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’. Belgians Joyhauser featured at last year’s Drumcode Festival paving the way for ‘Fierceness’, a beautiful melody-drenched cut befitting their DC cap. Anfisa Letyago is another first timer and shows why she’s one of the scene’s most highly touted new artists with the brooding beast ‘Are You In’. A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes. Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous.

Tronic is one of the most established and longest-running techno labels in the world. Founded in 1994 by Christian Smith while he was attending University, the label now has over 430 releases under its belt. Christian and his team have paved the way for many artists including ANNA, Dosem, Wehbba, and more recently Drunken Kong. Tronic's main philosophy is simple: nonpurist, honest, house and techno. The label has released countless of artist albums and is regularly supported by the top players in the industry. Some outstanding releases have been Christian Smith's remixes of Carl Craig's seminal 'At Les" song, which has become one of the biggest vinyl sales releases of the past decade. Other notable releases and remixes came from Laurent Garnier, and Underworld. The weekly Tronic Radio show is being syndicated on over 120 stations worldwide and has had over 500 shows. With regards to events, Tronic has had a successful 15-week season in Ibiza at the 3000-capacity Eden super club, while also hosting arenas at established festivals, and doing over 100+ club events worldwide from Tokyo to London, Sao Paulo, and Detroit.
