Long-standing techno force @garybeck will return to Berlin’s Second State with a grooving and cerebral 4 track EP. A pillar of Scotland’s techno scene, Gary has appeared regularly at some of the globe’s most respected venues and festivals including Womb Tokyo, fabric, Output NYC and Awakenings, to name a few. 

Title track ‘Supervan’ opens with bouncing bass and rattling percussion. A chopped-up vocal is introduced and commands the track forward as it ascends, with the kick battling to harden the track over the grooving melody and anthemic keys. Next up is the spirited cut ‘Psycho Babble’. A resounding sample attempts to cry out over the jacking bass and kick combo, calling out in ecstasy at intervals of the track. A minimal hi-hat jumps throughout but retracts as the track increases tempo and gallops towards the end, where Beck incorporates breakbeat elements for the final leg. 

‘Sparks’ follows with rhythmic shakers and hi-hats juxtaposing each other under the monologue of two young punters. The conversation adds a narrative to the track as it intensifies along with a gritty buzzing element. The voices become distorted as the track builds to crescendo, with the sample and music working together in unison to unravel the story of the character’s night. The finale ‘Pink Castles’ is a pacy and hypnotic trip, conjuring up the energy of both a peak-time workout and high-tempo closer. Haunting vocals and icy synths swirl around the driving elements and atmospherics, engulfing the listener into the darkness of this finishing track.

Our Yellowhead leaders return to base once more, having created another ferocious beast, which in turn gets manipulated by villains Duspeeka and Mark Reeves! 'Creature' sets a hypnotic mood with cyclic synths and clanging mettalic riffs, next to neatly placed effects that provide enough momentum for the solid drums to keep everything firmly in place, while otherwordly passes seep in and out of the cracks! Mark Reeves' rendition is a more  straight ahead gritty and jacking techno workout, featuring persistant stabs and a steady sub bass that provide the juicy low-end, in his warped version of the original, Dubspeeka takes a more cavernous approach, adding a bouncier rhythm section, while focusing on pulsating sonar bleeps, followed by a heavy drop!

Back at headquarters, our Yellowhead leaders are about to get attacked by a swarm of 'Symbiosis', just when the ever-prolific Sasha Carassi and the infamous duo Industrialyser and The Advent land their ships down, bringing along their own secret weapon of choice! The battle begins with our captains charging forth, unleashing a rocksteady rhythm section which acts as a sonic building block, while the disharmonic synths and the bubbling bass, provide the right amount of momentum! Sasha is up next, employing distorted drum elements, together with apocalyptic electronics and cavernous washes, creating havoc in their path! Three strikes deep so far; Gregor Tresher ignites the GTO machine for another unique two-track techno excursion that digs deep into his past while staring defiantly at the future.
First, the future: A place totally accessible with ‘Substance’ as it surges triumphantly into the unknown with a continuous cycle of new elements layering up over the laid back groove yet-relentless modulating pattern. Suddenly Gregor’s signature pads hit home and the future has landed.
For a taste of the past, check ‘Inhale’: A bass-heavy electro breakbeat that nods back to Gregor’s rich electroid history as Sniper Mode who released a body of work on Elektrolux, Mikrolux and Electrix during the early 2000s. Avision storms into 2020 in fine fashion with his first EP for Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio label.

Playing the decks since just 12 years of age, this American artist grew up in the musically rich New York City scene and is now at the sharp end of it with his own new school techno sound. He has released on key labels like Ben Sims’ Hardgroove, Mark Broom’s Beardman and Teksupport, and is someone that icons like Adam Beyer and Chris Liebing often reach for in their own sets.

He starts off his latest offering with 'Innocence', a bustling techno track with bulky drum programming that is brilliantly loose. It jostles you into action as dark vocals add intensity and makes for a perfectly physical dance floor workout.

Keeping up the pressure is 'Time Lapse', with big hi hats and a driving bassline all interwoven with thundering kick drums that will get the whole club up on its toes. A rising synth in the background adds an air of cosmic exploration and means this tasteful techno trip is enthralling from start to finish.

These are two superbly stylish and high powered techno cuts from this contemporary tastemaker.

A fresh techno project from a new production talent, Truesoul delivers the debut EP from Ango Tamarin. The artist first connected with Adam Beyer via a link from fellow Ibiza resident Chris Spero of Dense & Pika. His work offers a triumvirate of rolling bubblers, heavy on functionality.

Expertly-rendered title track 'What Was That' steps forward as the pacesetter, rupturing on impact after a supercharged build-up cuts the track loose, releasing its propulsive core. 'Cat Man Do' possesses an infectious energy, built around a smack-dab groove, thumping bottom end and mechanical stabs. Asserting that he knows how to invigorate a dancefloor, the EP closes with 'Catch The Donkey', an effortlessly bouncy, bustling track that impresses with intricacy.

Founded in 1994 by Christian Smith while he was attending University, the label now has over 430 releases under its belt. Christian and his team have paved the way for many artists including ANNA, Dosem, Wehbba, and more recently Drunken Kong. Tronic's main philosophy is simple: nonpurist, honest, house and techno. The label has released countless of artist albums and is regularly supported by the top players in the industry. Some outstanding releases have been Christian Smith's remixes of Carl Craig's seminal 'At Les" song, which has become one of the biggest vinyl sales releases of the past decade.
