Crosstown Rebels’ Rebellion imprint welcomes a debut outing from French artist Joseph Maglia, AKA Maglia. Co-founder of and resident at the Mykonos based Moni nightclub and studio, Maglia delivers the four track Chouia EP that pays homage to sounds that have inspired him through his years in music.

"This EP encapsulates multiple influences on my journey as a music producer, which started many years ago,” says Maglia. “Some of these tracks are old sessions, whilst others are relatively new but they have all been polished and finished in our studio based in Mykonos, Greece. Middle Eastern sonorities and their deep sonic signatures have always fascinated me; the vibrations translated via synth lines and live recorded drums, in my opinion, gives the perfect synergy for dance floors."

The title track Chouia opens the EP, introducing the first instance of Middle Eastern influenced melodies alongside progressing percussion throughout. Rohya follows and raises the energy as entrancing synth lines enter over a pulsing bassline. The EP’s theme carries through into Barde as wind instruments are introduced alongside rhythmic elements before Maglia then closes the EP with the mesmeric and percussive led track Biskra.

With over 20 years of DJ experience, Maglia has dedicated his life to music and the creative arts. It was this passion that led him to co found the Moni establishment in 2013 which quickly became a point of reference in the clubbing scene, welcoming the likes of Dixon, Seth Troxler, Bill Brewster, Honey Dijon and many others. Maglia’s entrepreneurial spirit also saw him co-found the label and party Bordel Ensemble alongside friends Opus Dehli, Jheab & Peggy Gou, as well as co-founding the lifestyle collective London Village Kids. The quiet times through 2020/21 saw Maglia lay focus on his own music, paving the way for his timely debut on Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion.

So to the first release of 2014, we bring up hot new music from the Frankfurt born, Berlin based DJ & producer Martin Roth.
As a classically trained pianist Martin spend most of his time at home in the studio making music and he has a number of cool deep and textured grooves.
He has released music on Get Physical and Anjunadeep and his tracks and remixes have been continually supported by the likes of Sasha, Solomun, John Digweed, Eric Prydz and  Photek. 
For this release on Sudbeat he delivers two tracks: 'Suite 909' is a hypnotic deep intense number with its rising pads creating a moody yet uplifting atmosphere before the synth stabs land giving a timeless feel and a stripped back journey that encapsulates your mind.
On remix duties we went to Sahar Z, one of the best DJs and producers from Israel and co-owner of the legendary The Cat & Dog in Tel Aviv. His remix is a percussive layered gem that utilizes the pads from the original but with a chunky twist  that teases and wraps your senses around this hot remix.
Closing the package we have 'Epic Waves'. A subtle soothing enduring voyage that floats along effortlessly, before the sub by baseline lifts the feeling elevating it to heavenly warmth.
As you'd expect from Sudbeat, another superb release that will certainly be ticking a lot of boxes for many djs around the globe.

Nina Simone (/ˈniːnə sɪˈmoʊn/; born Eunice Kathleen Waymon; February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and activist in the Civil Rights Movement. Simone employed a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop.

Born in North Carolina, the sixth child of a preacher, Waymon aspired to be a concert pianist. With the help of a few supporters in her hometown of Tryon, North Carolina, she enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York.

Waymon then applied for a scholarship to study at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she was denied despite a well-received audition. Waymon became fully convinced this rejection had been entirely due to racial discrimination. Years later, two days before her death, the Curtis Institute of Music bestowed on her an honorary degree.

To make a living, Eunice Waymon changed her name to "Nina Simone". The change related to her need to disguise herself from family members, having chosen to play "the devil's music" or "cocktail piano" at a nightclub in Atlantic City. She was told in the nightclub that she would have to sing to her own accompaniment, and this effectively launched her career as a jazz vocalist.

Simone recorded more than 40 albums, mostly between 1958, when she made her debut with Little Girl Blue, and 1974. She had a hit in the United States in 1958 with "I Loves You, Porgy".

Simone's musical style fused gospel and pop with classical music, in particular Johann Sebastian Bach, and accompanied expressive, jazz-like singing in her contralto voice

Fresh from the release of André Hommen’s More Than This album earlier this year, October will see the German talent follow up with the first of two special remix packages. Set for release on his own imprint, These Eyes, More Than This Remixes Pt. 1 includes stellar offerings from two Kompakt regulars: Robag Wruhme and Jonathan Kaspar.

Beginning with the punchy sounds of Robag Wruhme’s remix, hard-hitting drum combos are swiftly complemented by reverberating vocals, as up-tempo hats create rhythm to forge a no-nonsense dancefloor cut. Jonathan Kaspar’s remix rounds things off gently, with a softly-building bassline that ebbs and flows alongside whispering hats and warm, soothing pads.

André Hommen’s international following should come as no surprise given his already storied career. As label head of These Eyes, the imprint has welcomed standout releases from the likes of Ane Brun and Marc Romboy previously. Another staple of Germany's ever-flourishing music scene, ​Robag Wruhme​’s productions have found a welcome home on labels as acclaimed as Koze’s Pampa Records, Kompakt and Mute to name a few, whilst fellow prolific-producer ​Jonathan Kaspar ​has released two EP’s on These Eyes, then also Objektivity and Acid Pauli’s Ouië in an already-storied career.
