A central figure in Italian club culture, Beppe Loda pioneered the omnivorous ‘Afro’ sound and mixing style that combines everything from proto-industrial and Steve Reich to Afrobeat, disco, sideways new-wave, Celtic folk and krautrock.

Since his first gig at the Kinky club in his hometown Manerbio back in 1973, Loda has been on the hunt for off-the-beaten-track records; but it was during his 1980-1987 residency at the mythical Typhoon club that the disco trendsetter nailed down his vision for the dancefloor. Thousands of young Italians fell under his spell and Loda recorded some of the greatest dance tapes ever made.

Hailing from the Italian city of Brescia, Bertrand. had his first appearances behind the decks of clubs in Milan when he was still a teenager. After spending time in NYC at the age of 21, where he studied music production under electronic club music pioneers, he learned how to incorporate a wide spectrum of influences and creating beyond the common means of electronic dance music. Bertrand.’s musical identity came into its own after relocating to Berlin, where he developed his craft of story-telling via music production and particularly in his unrelenting DJ sets, which skilfully combine electro, UK, break-beat, house, and techno.

Bertrand. has brought both club & festival dancefloors to a frenzy djing across Europe and the USA – yet he is equally as capable in the studio. Andrew Morrison, AKA The Cyclist, is a UK producer at the forefront of the lo-fi, opaque, analogue house scene fittingly described as “tape throb”. Being the purveyor of DIY busted techno, a gauzy melodic sound submerged in tape distortion, The Cyclist..

Influenced by an eclectic range of music from Krautrock and 60s psychedelia to early Chicago house, techno, jungle and dub, his critically acclaimed album Bones In Motion, named one of the best releases of 2013 by XLR8R and Boomkat, was the first album released in the collaboration of Leaving Records and Stones Throw Records. In 2014 Morrison introduced a new alias, Buz Ludzha, via the ‘Love Repetitive Rhythmics’ 12” on All City Records, before returning again as The Cyclist in November to release his second album, Flourish, named one of the best albums of 2014 by FACT, having premiered on Pitchfork Advance.

Fourth release by Tropical Animals 'Surrounding Areas' sees them team up with two Italian veterans: cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli and Bluenoises Records founder Dario Piana. 

Whirlwinds of synths push back against basslines dipped in tubs of drowsy funk, as universes of psychedelia unfold. The four tracks from 'Surrounding Areas' capture a distinctively italian spirit, one that was born to soundtrack the warm summer nights of Tuscany but that will very certainly do an excellent job elsewhere too.

Two guys who moved from their beautiful Puglia to Milan and with passion and sacrifice have built, to date, what is one of the most important parties of Italian clubbing. Started at the Zog and then moved to the Caffe dei Binari, the party consolidated at the former Puerto Alegre, which over the years have structured and made perfect for their needs, giving it new life and a new name, Apollo Club. Since 2018 they have opened their own record label and in this mix they give us the clear example of how many musical genres can be part of your soul. Thank you!

For our 40th tA MIXTAPE, we are happy to invite JANE FITZ!

"Most of Fitz's fans know her for a deep and cosmic sound defined by excellent track selections, but her style is always changing. Since she was a teenager, she's loved and played everything from soul to trip-hop to techno to ambient, and she thinks of her sound today as a culmination of her many influences over the years. It's also the result of the personal experiences she's had, from Body & Soul parties in New York to psytrance raves in Jakarta to festivals like rural in Japan and Freerotation in Wales, both of which are proud to have her as a regular"

"Every track on this mix was made in Italy during the early to mid 90s, mostly, but not exclusively, from the north. A lot of it is from Toscana, home of Tropical Animals. It’s my tribute to a specific fluid and entrancing music that has shaped my sound as a DJ for the past eight years or so. Not as well known Italo, Cosmic, minimalism, deep house,  or even Italy’s psychedelic rock, but it’s a sound that brings in elements all of these. But this sound is something different  - dynamic, imaginative and full of drama. It’s hard to mix, because most of the records have long, twisting intros and the tracks don’t stop changing and evolving until the very last bars. It doesn’t play by the rules. Progressive, yes. Trance, techno, house? Maybe a little bit of all. To me, it’s simply the unmistakeable sound of Italy, the sound I love"

tA Mixtape 43 is signed by a duo that has been on our radar for quite some time. 
Italian natives but Berlin-based, these guys represent the link between the old rave party and the new influences from Europe Club
Younger Than Me is the "duo" project of Marcello Carozzi & Francesco Mingrino, 

Their style is recognizable in all their productions e djset and they are resident DJs at monthly party in Tempio Del Futuro Perduto, called Futura, also spreading the vibe in European clubs like Ankali, Jasna 1, Lärm, BAR Rotterdam, Kablys + Club, Griessmuehle, Thuishaven, etc. 

They already released with Dischi Autunno, Tusk Wax and XXX label are co-owner of 90's Wax series 
Definitely, a name to keep an eye on for the next few years.
Their motto is:
"You may stop the party, but you can't stop the future"
No sentence was so right in this period.

Surely having known him all these years has made us discover a more mystical, intriguing and true side of clubbing. One of the evenings that we will always remember in the history of Tropical Animals is his back to back with Lena Willikens in the last past season. A hypnotic set that involved our mind and our soul.
Vladimir Ivkovic is a DJ who makes you abandon heavy thoughts to let yourself be enveloped by light ones. It is an apparent light-heartedness of him, the daughter of an existence spent searching for the best sounds to take around the world in his record case. Originally from Belgrade, he settled in Düsseldorf where he was resident of the Salon Des Amateurs, a bar inside the Kunsthalle, the museum of contemporary art, an optimal situation and place for free musical expression. It is in this setting that he founded Offen Music, a label that encompasses from avant punk to world groove to downbeat, magical sounds within which we hear a lot of research and a poetically clear and determined vision. To make you understand his inspiration, Vladimir is also the label manager of Desolat (the label of Loco Dice), which held small and intimate evenings at the Salon. This is a great gift from him and we are extremely happy to give you this Christmas gift and to wish you happy holidays!

In March 2020, Curses would have been one of the main guests of the second half of the season. He best represented what we wanted from the new year, a mysterious sound linked to a not too distant past, but looking to an electronic revolutionary future.
Berlin-based Curses blends New Wave and Post-Punk with his ghostly vocals and guitars, punctuated with flashes of 80's EBM and New Beat.
Whether it's performing live at the late Andrew Weatherall's Convenanza Festival, or DJng in the main room at Circoloco DC-10, Curses manages to somehow bring his punk and new wave attitude to all dance floors small and big. Always keeping true to his unique take on the darker side of disco.
The debut album from Curses, 'Romantic Fiction' dropped on Jennifer Cardini's Dischi Autunno imprint in October 2018, launching his live act which brings the guitars, vocals and energy of the album to stage as a duo.
Curses has released a handful of EP's on labels such as Hoga Nord, Bordello A Parigi, Throne Of Blood, and his own imprint, Ombra International, and known for his live approach to remixes, incorporating  guitars and other instruments. 
A new album is scheduled for 2021 on Dischi Autunno.
Very happy to have him on board, for the first Podcast of the Year!

Our series does not stop and we are delighted to host an artist who is the pioneer of a genre. Pioneer of a completely new dance, for what were the notes to accompany it, the protagonists of the rhythm, the social context, the scenarios. It was 1987 when the British Nancy Noise, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Nicky Holloway, Johnny Walker and company gathered on the same island to dance to the same revolutionary music. They called it Balearic Beat but no one has ever really managed to give a definition to that sound that was proposed every summer by Alfredo Fiorito, and our host Leo Mas, Dj Cesar De Melero, Dj Pippi, Dj Nelo, ... What was sure is that back in London, they couldn't stop talking about it. Of its majestic dawns, of great parties, of Amnesia, of Ku and of Glory's, of pure hedonism, of its colors. Between 1987 and 1988, Ibiza was the hippest thing in Europe. In this regard, Josè Padilla expressed himself: "the hippie spirit is basic because it is inspired by the simplest values to which the natural instinct introduces us, such as the open air, the moon, the stars, dance and good music: the island of Ibiza is summed up in all this ”. It is this essence that gave the name of "Second Summer of Love" to that magical summer of 1988, heir to that of San Francisco dated 1967, when the young American generation decided to rebel against the conflict in Vietnam through peace, love and music. Ana Helder is certainly one of the female DJs who first represented the sound and soul of South America in electronic music.
Since a while she lives between two continents and likes to sit on the fence: Argentinian breed Ana Helder is part of the global team Cómeme and as a producer, she has develop a steady, growing discography with a deep musicality and an open attitude to house music, amplifying the genre with discreet boogie, disco and funk particles.
Her DJ sets are dedicated to the rough riding way of dance music, where a loco kind of Jack is king and wily rhythms thrill your senses. When she is not touring around the globe, she dances with her South American peers in cities like her hometown Rosario, Buenos Aires, Brazil or Santiago de Chile.
In 2020´s may she has dropped “Landpark” a five new tunes EP on Müstique that if you listen you’ll wish acid never dies and a month later she debuts on Optimo Music Digital Danceforce with “Boleto 101” EP where Some psychedelic overdubs on a Minimoog fill the funky space.

Don Carlos has remained a resolutely underground figure on the fringes of the Italian House Music scene. This is true despite the fact that he is been spinning since the late 70's,dabbling in studio production since the late 80's and his debut single "Alone" (1991) sold around 12.000 copies on the Calypso label and has been a coveted Deep House classic ever since. 
His productions have mixing house rhythms with afro-american jazz sounds, verging sometime towards disco, sometime towards progressive house or electronic soul.
